Fj20e - To Be Tuned
« on: 12:39:21 PM / 13-Jun-08 »
Hi guys.
I am going to have my FJ20E turbocharged (and many other things)
I have a few question that I would like to ask you.
First: does someone have the valve timing graphics of the FJ20ET or at least give me the degrees for the phases
Do you know whether the clutch of the FJ20E and the Turbo version differ?
Some ideas on reinforced rear drive axles?
Ideas on remaking the rear suspension to fit s13 coilover kit (also to the front)
Also do you know a shop that can manufacture or is selling bearings (coated or any kind of aftermarket "street" or "sport") I mean the crankshaft bearings and those of the connecting rods
This is for now
I will post new question if I encounter something

Something very interesting to share. After the opening of the motor (as it blocked out a couple of months ago) we found out there is no wearing on the cylinders or pistons. They need just standart set of rings. One of the conrod bearings stuck and caused the blocking. Everything will be probably repaired as I am waiting for a response from Stewart Wilkins about the date when the parts are leaving for Bulgaria. In that matter I want to ask if someone has ordered something from this company? Do you know whether it is real or...something fake? It's because I transferred the money and for already two days they do not respond if they have received the sum or not.

Okay. Everything seems to be fine. Parts left for Bulgaria today. Soon I will post pics of the rebuild. I can say FJ20 is hell of a tough engine...

Stewart Wilkins is a great guy - your parts will arrive. He does us all a great service by having an extensive amount of spares for these engines. I found it easier to deal with him by phone than email.

Thanks
I guess it is so.
Here are some pics of what is in the trunk since the engine is all dismantled.
Very interesting fact indeed - cylinders and pistons - 0mm wearing after many years of driving and I am sure that for the last couple of years when the car was in Bulgaria it was not spared...it was driven in high revs in cold engine...no oil check...spark plugs were very old and also here in Bulgaria no one else will ever try to rebuild such engine with view of the facts that someone has to send money to a stranger...and no one wants to deal with such stuff as rare finds.

Everything arrived and the motor is being rebuilt right now. Just some useful information: Probably when you would try to rebuild FJ20 you won't find any main bearings - even Stewart Wilkins does not have them. Instead he can offer you L18 main bearings. You need to check the oil feeding passages - when you put the bearing shells some of the holes will be half covered. Just elongate the holes to achieve full fitting. Then check the clearance. You may need to grind a little bit the bearings as they will appear to be too tight. Just get a cord tie the two shells of one bearing to form a circle then get a 600 or more wet or dry sandpaper and grind until you achieve clearance of about 0.1 - 0.15.

Can't see why it wouldn't, unless the flywheels are different.

I know the CA20E & FJ20E clutch & pressure plates are interchangable as I had the CA20E button clutch on the FJ20E and back onto the CA20DET.

Exedy made the 5 puck clutch ceramic clutch I'm using. It's the same as the S12 CA20E despite the different part number.
