I split your post asking where to buy engines, it's in Coffee Shop. Unless we're gonna continue to troubleshoot your car, we should probably CLOSE this thread.

Hella flush and all associates should be gunned down for brainwashing people into thinking a 225 and lots of camber is proper wheel fitment. THAT IS EASY, anyone can camber a skinny as tire till it dosnt rub. Now fitting an 11 with a 315 on stock fender with reasonable camber, that is fitment. And looks, and performs better than both.

I need to start this post up again. I replaced my timing belt and water pump and put everything back together. The engine is cranking well but no start. I'm assuming that I have fuel and spark since I sent a fireball out of cylinder one when I pulled a plug to test. My fuel pump is priming and seems to be working.

I'm thinking that I flooded it out when I tried to start it without many of my vacuum lines hooked up. My spark plugs smelled like raw fuel so I pulled all my exaust plugs to let it air out. I'll clean a replace my plugs and try again tomorrow.

Any ideas?

Have you done a compression check yet?  Spark, fuel, etc will still be present, assuming that wasn't the problem- your car was running fine before- but if the valves bent, you'll have little to no compression.

I haven't done a compression check, I know its important but don't have the tools. I took a break from working on the car. I'll spend some time on it tonight, I sure I can get a compression tester if the engine still won't start.

I just bought a compression tester and am going to go test everything now. If I do have bent valves is there any reason I can't pull a head off another ca20 and bolt it on?

Yeah that should be fine. Might be easier and cheaper than rebuilding your head.

Well after a compression check I know I have bent valves. I need the car to run to I towed it to the shop tonight. I know it won't be cheap..... shit.

Anyone know a fair price for this kind of repair?

if i had read this i could have told you that when you break the timing belt the head is done.

when i broke my T-Belt indicated by whooring buzz noise and the rapid engine start rate(more then normal) also it was allot quiter indication of low or no compression.

i had split 2 valve guides and bent every exhuast vavle.
and this was a CA18ET motor. as i look at this it was good thing, later upon disassembly of the motor i had so much clearnace in my con rods that it shocking that motor could run with so much slop. litteraly more the 1/8th" of clearance in some places.

these are my thoughts

Turns out all eight of my valves are bent. The shop said it will be $700-$800 to fix.

If you aren't ready for a swap just install a used head from a pick and pull. But what was stated earlier by others users is direly important. There were differences in the MKI and MKII heads trust me I know I dropped a 88 MkII in my 84MKI and bolted the intake manifold  along with the tranny then found out that yuo have to swap over quite a few parts and what nots to get it work right. From what I remember is that MKI CA20's are black top while the MKII have a silver top dunno how much it'll help but unless you got a CA20 that was babied into it's old age you are about to start on a long journey of maintenance and hardships, trust me I love my CA20 in this car in my other one it was a pain. You learn from your mistakes.

i recently got a ca20e head for about 100$ from the salvage yard, a pull-a-part will be even cheaper. i would recommend replacing the valve seals and maybe even a valve grind before installing an unknown head. you could get the head and have it reworked for around 200$, much cheaper and easier then a swap. good luck!

I dropped the cash and had it repaired. My gf drives my s12 and I needed it working asap. I still have two years of emissions testing left so I'm going to save money untill then. I have plans to do paint and suspension untill I don't have to pass a sniffer test.

The good news is my engine is running like new and it feels great to drive it around again.
