[Today at 08:44:26 PM] JonB: Just paint them off, threads and all?

[Today at 08:45:31 PM] SchizophrenicMC: Yeah, if you spray like you would a model kit, in several thin coats, you should be fine

[Today at 08:46:31 PM] JonB: Ok

[Today at 08:46:55 PM] JonB: Three of four body mounts done

[Today at 08:47:37 PM] JonB: Takes about two hours to make each. Hope to be ready for the extended week end

[Today at 08:48:22 PM] JonB: Don't even know that I'll get that far, but the mounts are something I can do here in my basement

[Today at 08:49:34 PM] JonB: Pulling, seem welding, and painting the subframe is unlikely, considering I have to set up an axle, which I'm hoping to strip and paint also

[Today at 08:50:07 PM] JonB: Never know though - of I feel good, with a three day build binge

[Today at 08:52:53 PM] JonB: There's mount for the rad support also. I'm not doing those as I'm going to rebuild that out of something light weight

[Today at 08:54:33 PM] JonB: I found my self shopping for aluminum bolts for the fiberglass fenders, then I realized I was pretty insane

[Today at 08:55:50 PM] JonB: Being that I'm chucking the inner wheel wells, there's only going to be about eight bolts for each fender

[Today at 08:56:26 PM] JonB: I'm going to loose the hood springs and mill many holes in the hood hinges

[Today at 08:56:42 PM] SchizophrenicMC: lolweightreduction

[Today at 08:56:52 PM] JonB: Massive

[Today at 08:58:28 PM] JonB: I was considering stripping the steel inner fenders out of the old fenders and welding them to the rad support, much like a modern unibody, but I think I'll just wait for cage

did you change your pilot bearing and did you check end play of the output shaft of the tranny that bearing is really bad and something caused it to wear. a lot of times you will get clutch chatter when the disc is installed backwards. i hope everything works out

didnt change the pilot bearing...there was no play in the input or output shafts.....I think that wear was caused by that nub of splines on the clutch disc!

ANYWAYS.......same issue.....didn't fix it!!!!!! Im about to rage....lol Im NOT pulling the engine again......I think Im too old for this shit now.....might be time to part with it

Fuckin seriously
I keep my car cleaner then my room
Fuck you then, I'll take my movies, box of chocolates, bottle of wine and chloroform somewhere else.
Adding an SSD to that is kinda like strapping a 3 inch stainless HKS exhaust on a geo metro.

Get a new pressure plate, or use your old one.
Put in a new pilot bushing, that one is b0rked.

Also, check the flywheel distance from the block. Make sure that it's the same compared to the old engine (When the clutch was fine). Who knows, maybe it's been turned too thin, or isn't the proper distance because it's the wrong flywheel.

Get it done man! It's only couple hours worth of work, and you really don't need to pull the engine.

yah I measured the flywheel distance...theyre dead on the same. I thought that coulda been the problem too.

Yah I could put my old shit on......just have no desire at the moment lol. Not sure how to get the trans off without pulling it though. Tried everything to manipulate the engine position to get at the top two bellhousing bolts and it was a no go.

Someone on here said they preferred dropping their motor out from the bottom. Could you start that process without unhooking everything just to get it low enough to access the bolts?
Or - could you drill access holes for theos bolts thru the floor board from the inside?

Think I may have sold it...guy is coming next weekend to look at it (bringing a trailer).

As much as I truly LOVE this car....Im getting too old for younger guy tuners :P....if I want something fast I gotta go more sophisticated!!! But I think I may get a bike as a summer toy for now to fulfill my "fun" quota!!! If it doesnt sell Ill keeper around....but the guy that wants it knows these cars and has wanted one for awhile....it will be well taken care of! So if I sell it, itll go to a good home!

I know its an easy fix...thats not really part of it.....I think it's just time to move on and let someone else enjoy the fun of the s12!

well maybe the love affair has run its course and it is time to move on. i hope the next owner will treasure it like you did at one time. sometimes its better to move on this way the car stays a live and just doesnt sit in the driveway till it rots. the 2 main reasons for cars to end in the backyard or driveway for years is: 1. i waiting to get the time and money to restore (which will never happen) or 2. i had problems with it and never got around to fixing it (which also never happens)

i seen a friend of my brother last weekend he has a 1970 Alfa Romeo Spider that his uncle gave him in 1973. his uncle bought it new and had nothing but problems from day one he got fed up with it and gave it to Eddy who loved the car. if Eddys name ever came up a mental picture would come to mind of him either under the hood or under the Alfa it seems like he was always broke down in it somewhere.

he has raised 5 kids and did  a lot in his life but that Alfa was always there every summer he would be out in it and as he said one day to my brother and me it took a week to get it ready to drive for a day.

i hadnt talked to him for about five years till last weekend and we caught up on the families and life in general and then we turned to Alfa which was sitting there looking like it did in 1973.

he proceeds to tell me that his last daughter gradurated from college last year and that he has had a Alfa fund going on for 30 years where he put extra money into for the day to have it restored. he took it to Auto Palace in Pittsbugh and had them look the car over for the total restoration and when he got the phone call that it could be done within his budget he was thrilled and they could start on it in a month.

he had his wife ride over to pick it up and he said he got two blocks from the dealer and it broke down. it took him all of 2 minutes to have it up and running again and drove it home. when he parked it in the garage he said he sat there and looked at the crack in the dash the wood that was showing its age the tech needle laying at the bottom of the gage. he walked in to the house and said to his wife we are going to Europe for a vacation I am not having the Alfa touched it has been a great car and i love it for what it is.  (true story)

it wasnt suppose to make you sad. people look at cars in many different ways i have a passion for the  automobile but i never fell in "love" with one. Eddy would walk right past any other car he is not a car "guy". i offen say i wish i wouldnt of sold that car or i wish i kept that car but the reason i say that is because i most likely sold it cheap at the time.

you have a passion for the automobile also and you know like many of us do there is always another one to fall in "love" with around the corner

Your car was, and I suppose still is, a big inspiration for my s12 hunt. I was determined to find a white hatch, and now that I finally did, I hope it can make it even half as sexy as yours.

Like you say, sometimes you just need to move on. Don't be a stranger though.
