are there any usual problems with the ka anybody knows about that i should check before putting it in?

Main and rod bearings. The achilles heel of the KA is spun bearings. Check them. Gives you the chance to replace a few important (but not necessary) gaskets while your down there too.

i may end uo buying a running driving 510 and buy a ka and a six speed trans frim an s15 and tear the ka down and replace what i can afford.
