« on: 09:46:07 PM / 21-Jan-11 »
so when  i drive my car it runs fine until it hits 3500 rpm then it cuts out. the coils are good, new wires, cap, rotor, etc. i know that one of the coils turns off around 4000rpm if im wrong tell me but that might be the case if so how would i fix that.i saw that u can make it so both coils stay on but i didn't get a clear understand about how to do the mod. Thanks

Check your FPR. Slicks12 had this same problem, I drove 120 miles to show him a vacuum off his FPR (Spaceship device) was split in half. Magically fixed this same problem, just search around your bay for messed up vac lines or vac leaks.

Does it feel like a rev limiter?

If so, MAF unplugged or went bad. The engine must be running in limp mod

Yeah just check it, its happened before.

Do what Djay said too. Unplug your maf, start car, try to rev. If it revs maf is toast, if it dies, something else.

Yeah I dunno what engine he have(i guess CA20E since its dual coil) but on my KA24DE, if the MAF is unplugged it act just like a rev limiter at 3500rpm to save the engine since it can't monitor how much air is getting into it.

ok so now its acting up around 3800.  i was driving on the highway yesterday and it was acting like a rev limiter at 4000 wat u guy think. when i run it without the maf plugged in it either runs so rich or it does like running. i don't like the vane type maf any way is there a way to make a ca18/ka24/or sr20 maf to work????

Well sounds like your maf is ok then if it runs better with it unplugged that is when the maf is bad, when it runs shittier without it like it should thats a good sign.

This exact same thing happened to Cameron (slicks12), first thing we did was fix the fuel lines going the FPR because they were leaking profusely, then we cleaned and replaced the cap and rotor, then it worked great. Try new cap and rotor maybe if all your vac lines are hooked up and there are no tears/cuts on them.

ok my cap is brand new, vac lines are new. my car doesnt like checkers rotors for some reason. so i have oem rotor. How would u clean a rotor? ill check the fuel lines but i know there fine. wat i know needs to be done is a oil change because the oil is black. it run alittle better with clean oil i know that. only one vac line has a cut and its the bigger van line coming from the tranny??? but its clamped to the t where it goes to the engine and master cylinder. could this be a reason.

I scrubbed mine with a wire brush and some maf cleaner.

Sounds like a fat post maf air leak which could most DEFINITELY be your problem.

***update*** it acts like a rev limiter but in the first couple gears its goes to 3500 rpm and in higher gears it goes to 4000rpm and sometimes 4200.i dont think i said this before but its automatic if that helps.

Please do as these guys say, the ca had been a pain in my side before I swapped, but check your vac lines (inspect EVERY one!) for any leaks.  Possibly spray some aerosol around the lines while the car is at idle and pay attention to any changes.

also, like Maxcow mentioned, check and tighten all your air ducting just in case theres something loose there too.
