I thought you had a welder already...? Did something happen to it?

Yeah I wasn't sure if that was what you were doing or not... I remember a few DSM guys were ballsy enough to run an open wastegate on their mostly street-driven car. And that' was in LA county where the cops are vicious lol.

Gonna be loud!

only loud when boosting. i'm eventually gonna have a full exhaust and even a real muffler *gasp*

i have a small arc welder. good for welding fences i guess but its always been such a pain in the dick using it. its hard as hell to start a weld and it leaves gaps in the bead under the flux. what i mean is when you run a bead, u finish, then you smack it around with a slag hammer to chip the slag out and big chunks of slag or flux that looked like part of the weld come off and reveal the gap underneath. and then you gotta go back over it to try and fill it in but its harder to weld the second time cause the edges of the original metal are melted back so now you have a gap that takes more heat to melt but too much heat just burns it out and you get a hole. you end up chasing holes around. trying to fill them in.

the flux wire feed though is soooooooo easy. what you see (the weld ur making) is what you get after it cools and you chip the spatter off. no chunks of faux bead popping out. its gravy and ur done the first time.

the rods i have should be good for what i'm doing. theyre 6013 in 5/64ths. not the smallest size but next to the smallest size and its the right number. some people recommend 7014 for exhaust tho so im gonna buy some 7014 in 1/16th and see how that goes

I think I did the right thing when I bought a welder that runs both flux core and shielded gas. I haven't run gas shield yet because I figure flux core is giving me opportunity to improve my skills... and because frankly I can't afford the tank yet :P But my welder came with the gas kit so when I want to I'll be ready for it. I want something that eventually can weld aluminum and stainless, so at some point I will need something more powerful.

what welder u have? theres a aluminum conversion gun for MIG where the spool is on the gun. and stainless is just a matter of different wire. although u can weld stainless with regular wire and its ok. i've done it

500 bucks!? no way man. i gotta do this on a budget. like 0 budget

i checked out the harbor freight welder. was thinking of just buying it on sale without the coupon for $107. that would be great except they have NONE. competely sold out at all the locations in vegas

drift practice event is the night of the 15th. looking like i might drive it after work. with a less than 70hp knocking ca20. maybe just a fresh oil change with some 10-40 will do they trick eh?

haha nice vid. i have a welder. it just sucks. I did a lot of work with a wirefeed that was a friends and it made fab work a lot easier. arc is a pain in the ass. not sure if its just my arc or all arc but it sucks for working with thin metal.

and ya it slides the same as before. no real loss of power yet. not that i could tell anyways

registered and paid for a drift practice coming up this friday night. gonna toss it around with 70hp one last time before i swap.

really really REALLY looking forward to this. so many different things i've been missing. I wanna toss mean long slide entries. I wanna pull grazers for days. i wanna flip the car hard and feel that backward transition feeling!!

eastwood has a 135amp mig/ with gas hook ups for stainless and alu. for $335 which is a great price. i know your trying to go cheap but i have a harbor freight welder the same one you are looking at and there good for what they are. the wire feed sucks. i have a c-clamp on the feed wheel just for it to work. you'll out grow it too and be looking for something better if you want to weld alu. and stainless. spend the money once and get something good.

also if you to sell me my old red car back interested. could help with your project

Never like tearing apart a running car. Theres a thought in the back of my head that says it might never get put back together and then i wont have a drift car again.  But i started today. Motor is out. took everything i need off it and got most of it cleaned up. gotta finish cleaning the intake mani and then clean the trans. after that is the big task. cleaning the engine bay. I think i'm gonna skip it this time and just get the motor together and drop it in. thats what i did last time and it worked out fine. ended up yanking the motor back out later and doing a good cleaning job and wire tuck when i had time. time is my biggest problem right now. my job has me working waaaay too many hours for the piss poor amount of money i make. If i was making bank then i wouldnt complain but this job blows. Right now i just want to get thru my 11-12 hour work days and focus on the car.  got a bunch of shit to do. hoping to magically make it for the practice on the 29th but i'll be sitting that one out while the car is being put together.

today

Test fired my turbo injectors. They all work and the spray patterns aren't too terrible but 3 of 4 have external leaks. I dont think an external leak can be fixed but i just sent an email to witch hunter performance asking about it. good news is reman'd injectors are available online for a little under $40 each. not buying a new set anytime soon tho
