From what I can tell, the 1UZ-FE and the VH45DE seem to be the same width. Not to get totally off topic, but can anyone confirm that?

I would've thought that the VH be a little wider,
Both are 90deg v8, the VH has bigger bore (so the block could be a little widder...).  Plus, the valve angle looks more pronounce on the VH, so the heads could also be a little widder...  also the UZ uses a slave cam design, that could help it being a little narrower... on the other side, the vh has less stroke than the UZ, so it's deck height could be a little shorter (but I have no data on both engines deck height)...

But I do agree that looking at the picture, it seams to be very close... hell it's a lot less cramped than a VG30DE

On an other note, the UZ looks a lot better visualy... I have always hated the stupid looking intake manifold on the VH... the UZ looks a lot cleaner

either way. its alot of work

QFT

*edit* nevermind the stroke... I had the specs messed in my mind... both engine share the same stroke... well there is a 0.2mm difference

Quick search reveals :

VH45DE

Dimensions: 890 mm(L) x 740 mm(W) x 725 mm(H).

From wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_vh_engine)

1UZFE

according to this, the VH should be a little more than 6inch wider... not even close...

haha thanks guys..yea it is quite a snug fit but no major issues going in, its like it was made for it..ive just had to move the sway bar forward and down a bit
i went for 1uz because i saw a build on here and he had quite a few issues and i just couldnt be botherd with them, (i just wanna do skids)
its about 3-5mm away from hitting the bonnet/hood
and its getting wired up at the moment so hopefully it will be running in the next week or so, so when it is il put a video up
oh and can anyone move this to the builds threads area i put it in the wrong area, unless it ok here?

had the car dyno'd on friday it made 274hp atw with no mods, just aftermarket ECU..
took it strait down to the track and cained the shit out of it and it was a success!
i havnt managed to make the front sway bar work yet but it handles quite well without it
and the h190 rear end held out fine to the abuse but i do have a hilux (4Runner) rear end waiting..
Videos to come as soon as i can get them on photobucket

really nice job... any chance you got pictures of your motor mounts you made are you coming off cross member or the rails and are they solid or are they a rubber mount. are you getting any flexing out of the unibody and do you have any concerns when you up the hp.....again a really nice job

really nice but the HP disappoints me a lot. the compression is already 10:1 on these right? seems like a 4L v8 should make more. headers or stock exhaust manifolds?

yeah but its also a lot smaller than a VH45 and way lighter too, about the same as a fully-dressed KA24. its also more rev-happy and the 97+ 1UZ puts out like 300 or so cause of VVT-i.

the motor only puts out 260-280 hp factory (at the fly), so for a 14 year old motor and pulling that at the wheels i didnt think it was too bad..and it has factory headers at the moment, until the turbo
and for the mounts, i cut the old seats a bit shorter on the cross member and welded new ones on to suit isuzu elf engine mounts

and im thinking of seam welding the car when the engines out next
