ka trans swap in an s12 with an sr swpa fail
« on: 10:55:04 PM / 03-Apr-12 »
so i decided to do a ka trans swap and get rid of my grinding b trans that was in it. so this weekend i pulled the old one out, swapped bell housings to the ka trans, and threw it back in. i cut the shifter hole back, made a new crossmember and mount for it, and used a front half of the s13 driveshaft and rear half of the s12. got it all back in and bolted up and it wouldnt go into gear... yes fail on my part big ti,e for never checking to see if the tranny would go into gear before putting it all the way in.. but my friend sold it to me so i had trusted him. yanked it back out and luckily my other friend had another ka trans so i bought that one. swapped bell housings again and i tried to reuse the same rear casing from the fist attempt ka trans. this time i tested it before i threw it in and it still wouldnt go in gear. so i guess there was a problem with something in the rear casing on that. but i put the original rear casing for that ka trans and it worked perfect so i threw it in. it was a pain this time but we eventually got it back in. so 3 days and 2 trannys we finally had the 2nd one back in and ready for it to be started! go to start it and it goes into all gears fine before we start it, but after it is started the clutch wont disengage. i could get it in gear by pushing on it until the wheels started spinning fast enough for it to go in, but there was no help from the clutch. so we decided to replace the slave after bleeding the original and getting no where. and it didnt help. even took out the slave push rod and made a new one that was much longer to hopefully get some more movement on the tob. but still nothing. my buddy was down there and pulled the fork with pliers far enough to make it where the clutch would disengage so i dont feel like its a problem in the throw out bearing.
i had to leave my friends shop so i drove it home with no clutch. but i have to fix it this weekend... so i need some ideas! id really love to not pull the tranny again...

1st- going to replace the master cylinder
2nd- throw out bearing/ clutch fork pivot thing

worst part is when you do push in the clutch the pedal shakes. kind of like the pressure plate fingers are bent on some...

I had something similar happen to me, didn't realise what it was till I had a new tranny back in... check the fork/tob assembly for a clip in the fork... mine had broken and wouldn't opperate properly... drove me nuts after buying entire clutch kit and a "new" trans

Clutch M/s is cheap, do it just because ;)

I keep my car cleaner then my room
Fuck you then, I'll take my movies, box of chocolates, bottle of wine and chloroform somewhere else.
Adding an SSD to that is kinda like strapping a 3 inch stainless HKS exhaust on a geo metro.
