trim below grill?
« on: 05:45:54 AM / 09-May-12 »
Hey, the strip of metal just below where the grill is is really bent and I was trying to see if it was removeable. I took my grill off but the metal just seems to disappear into the engine bay with no obvious attachement points.

Hmm have u check if their is any bolts right on the back of it if not just cut it and weld it back that's what I would do if I were to replace mine but I would think it has mounting points somewhere

There are 6 bolts on 3 mounts that hold it on, and 2 screws from the corner lamps. It may or may not be tack-welded at the fenders, depending on the repair history of the vehicle.

You may have to remove the headlight to get at it, but at the very least, you'll have to pull the bumper cover and raise the lights.

That piece is the first to go on when assembling the front end, and the last to come off when disassembling.  The edges were brazed (copper solder) to the fenders by the corner markers. Two bolts on the hood latch support, and two bolts at both ends (4 total) at the inside  of where the headlight motors are. The headlight motors need to come out to get to the heads of these bolts.

Mine was tack-welded on one side, not brazed. Must have been a repair.

But, yeah, what Silverton said.

^ same here, but mine is tack welded on both side. I thought it was stupid that this piece is tack welded. If I have to remove it I'll probably look for a way to bolt it instead.

It looks tacked, but once you start grinding at it, you will see it's copper. Just bolting it back on is fine, it doesnt need the tack

It's very difficult to find one of these untweaked.  even the one on my car has a slight tweak in it (from a junkyard car) but thankfully when it's on the car, you can't tell.

Straigten out what you can, it's still easier than making a whole new one.

I still think it'd be easier to source an existing valence.

this is worse than finding a cowl grille for a Z32 lol at least you can buy em at a high price. I'm tempted to make an insert for the S12 and put them into production

Not a bad idea. I bet people would pay $50 plus for one. I dunno how much it is to source one.

Lol at finding a cowl for Z32.  (z32 owner)
someone should mass produce. the one on my s12 was non existent, someone put a straigt piece of SM over were it would be.
If I agreed with you we'd both be wrong.
