lol no one ever built an S12 because they thought they where gonna make profit off it.

I painted a 2 door 510 earlier this year.... it was a 10k job.
even when the dude puts the SR in it hell be lucky to sell it for that 10k.

and thats a car that has a high market value.

we dont build cars because we think were going to see the money again...
we build em because we want a nice car or a fast car and because we enjoy the build.

most of the time you get what you pay for in body/paint.
 shit takes time, and time is money. no way round that.

Actually most s12 owners you'll find (like a lot of Americans these days) work lower paying jobs and can't afford newer sports cars. Most builds for s12's are done on small budgets over long periods of time. So 10k paint jobs for 99.5% of s12 owners are definitely outta the question. 510's do have higher market values but I still wouldn't drop 10k on a paint job for a 510. I found a pretty clean fairly rust free non running 70' 510 about 8 to 10 years ago for 800 bucks. Put roughly another 3 to 4k into mostly the engine and suspension and sold it for around 4,500 to 5,000 a few years later. So when you say "we dont build cars because we think were going to see the money again..." I am not really sure who "we" is. Wealthy people that can afford to waste excessive amounts of money maybe?

Most average joes don't have the luxury of spending 10k for something that is simply visually stimulating. If that was the case our economy would be booming and we wouldn't have 15+ percent unemployment. I don't mind losing a reasonable amount of money when it comes to building cars, as a matter a fact I somewhat expect it, but I am not going to drain my entire savings account just so my car can have a premium paint job. Since your in the business of painting cars though I can understand why you don't find spending 10k on a paint job excessive.

Id never drive a car with a 10k paint job lol I wouldnt want to screw it up.
but some people do and thats up to them.

lol and the 510 market has changed a lot in the last 8-10 years
 haha a running 2 door even a bucket generally doesnt go for less than 3k these days

and Im far far from wealthy.... Iv rattle canned more of my personal cars then Iv actually painted lol
but I build cars because I enjoy driving them and building them not because I expect to turn a profit.

After reading this it appears we have been on basically the same page the whole time. I wasted my time writing two posts and somewhat thread jacking for nothing. In traditional American style I am going to blame you Skib because I don't wanna blame myself. Its all your fault bro.

I'll chime in and say "very nice paint job" because it really is and that car is just awesome.  It's probably what every S12 enthousiast in North America would wan't in there driveway. 

But since that thread is already going sideways about paint job, I'm going to chime in and say that paint jobs are overrated. Come on, 5K or 10k for a layer of pigments on tin...

I roller painter Corostop on that POS under a 50$ budget... sure it doesn't look like a 10k$ paint job, but it does the job and it sure doesn't look 200 times worst

...and when someone will ding it (because it'll happen) I won't cry home about it... and I have no problem what so ever in going sideways on gravel road with that "expensive" paint job lol

LOL ya yanks.....for 50$ we couldnt even paint the hood, a bucket military paint(the cheapest) cost already 60$ :-P
