If it does indeed run well, and except for the blemishes he mentions it's relatively straight (as in never in a collision) then $1800 is fine for it.

And the spoilers are either foam rubber or fiberglass (not plastic lol).

And I happen to prefer the foam rubber :P

Fiberglass is plastic. It's glass-reinforced plastic.

Actually it's glass fibers (not plastic) and resin base (not plastic).

Actually it's glass fibers (not plastic) and resin base (not plastic).
Glass fiber is used to reinforce a polyurethane resin. Polyurethane is a type of urethane, which is a hydrocarbon plastic that forms from a chemical reaction between parts of a cold-set resin. Methyl Ethyl Ketone is a common catalyst for the reaction.

I have worked with fiberglass before, and the resin is plastic when set. It meets every requirement to be called plastic. Fiberglass, itself, is referred to as a Glass-Reinforced Plastic, or a Glass-Fiber-Plastic Composite.

Shit, usually I'M the one talking out of my ass, Arro.

While you're technically right, the average Joe considers plastic to be like the stuff that your dash is made of, or like your tail lights or grille. Or like the front lip off an SE S12. So it's still misleading to say fiberglass is "plastic" in this case. That, and the fact that the spoilers are fiberglass and not just polyurethane of some kind makes them (IMO) easier to repair. Hell, by your argument, the foam rubber ones are a sort of "plastic", too.

I'm in the "business" of taking the practical position on these sorts of things, not befuddling people with technicalities that won't help them, overly wordy language with largely unnecessary vocab, or discussions about fantasy upgrades that aren't practical or even possible without serious re-engineering or financial support.

But that's just me :P

Foam rubber is indeed a foamed plastic rubber. And the paint is a plastic, and the vinyl upholstery is plastic, and basically, everything on these cars that isn't metal is plastic or glass. Fun stuff, the world of materials engineering.

And knowing fiberglass is a plastic can be useful. There are properties to keep in mind about it. Paint adhesion, heat effects, chemical resistance, et cetera.

Practically speaking, the fiberglass pieces of an S12 come across as plastic, because they're more flexible than a typical GRP part, and are made of a greater ratio of plastic-to-glass than most GRP parts. They gouge like plastic, warp in heat like plastic, and adhere to paint like plastic. S12 parts are plastic, with glass fiber in them. Boats are glass fiber with plastic on it.

No way, the spoiler on a Mark II doesn't gouge like the bumper or crack like the tail lights. I know this from experience. Anyways, we're taking this elsewhere if we continue with the discussion.

if you are going to sell a car wouldnt clean it up. it looks so trashing because of the garabage in it. he seems like a really nice guy and he seems to know the car

yeah I was looking at that...he could at least get all the garbage out of it and give it a nice vacuuming. it seems to be in decent shape except for where those trees apparently fell on it and wrinkled the fenders.

and he put an SE spoiler on it lol.

I share the general sentiment that, if you're going to sell a car, clean it up before you take pictures. It's common courtesy, it makes the car look nicer (and worth more money), and frankly, it's a few minutes of your time for a nice, clean car.

I never let my car have more than one outstanding piece of paper trash in it at any given time. I can't stand a messy car.

Still, it looks pretty nice, aside from the passenger fender.

I agree with you Schiz. My interior, though sometimes a tad dusty in between wipe downs, never has any sort of loose garbage or such within. Maybe a jacket I leave in the back in case I need one randomly, or a couple school books, but no actual garbage.

As of right now, I have 2 muffler clamps, a bowl I had some Cracker Jacks in, and a receipt in my Jeep and that's more than I'd like in there. (and the receipt and bowl are in the center compartment, under the armrest)

I am okay with my backpack residing there.

I will say, I cleaned it out before I took pictures. Vacuumed and everything. Gotta make a good impression in the pics, to sell it.

I looked at car today very close to making a deal on it. If anyone is looking for one this is a nice car if it wasn't for needing front fenders the deal would have been done. The interior is nice driver side door panel needs a little work and driver seat needs a little. The cars drives pretty nice

Post Merge: [time]05:34:45 PM / 23-May-12 [/time]
I bought it. We came to a agreement on the car.

Post Merge: 01:53:30 PM / 24-May-12
i am pretty excited about this turbo model. he had the car all cleaned up when i got there to look at it. the rot under the tail lights is the only rust i could find on car. the fenders need replaced because of the damage. it has one of the best sounding "bitching betty" in it that i have heard in a long time. the interior is nice except for the driverside door panel and drivers seat which both can be repaired cheaply. he did have the service records for the car the turbo was replaced by nissan two years ago and about 4k miles. the wheels were replaced by nissan they were stolen and the owner had them replaced.
i am picking up on tuesday and driving her to pittsburgh should be fun
