Fairlady s12- VG-30 DE
« on: 10:52:12 PM / 08-Jun-12 »
First, we swapped the motor from a vg30e to a vg30de. The de provides a lot more power stock, and is a little better balanced. I didn't go with the tt for a few of my own reasons. I like the idea of an NA track car better than a tt, and I think that the de is going to provide more than enough power to be competitive with the weight of an old-school 200sx.

Our primary goal is to build a track going car at an affordable price, and while I have managed some of the smaller operations (like changing the diff or basic maitenence, I left the real work to the pros at SVS)

During the motorswap a few things happened, to fit the DE trans there had to be some banging around in the undercarriage of the car and it also requires a stronger trans mount. We've done it with a solid mount.

Now we also considered a few things to do while the motor was out of the car, primarily clutch and flywheel. I went with ACT package for about 900.

We also did the headers, I had mine sent from z motorsports but you may want to consider having them custom fab.

Intake and Exhaust custom fab from SVS performance.

The car came with a modified chip, a lot of JDM import companies will do this for you, so consider which one you are purchasing from and look around for the best deal.

Suspension was a s-13 front conversion and tien coilovers (you may want to check out megan racing I hear they have a setup that works a little better for this but isn't quite as beefy).

Sway bars, custom fab from SVS

Brakes are going to be cross-drilled slotted rotors, s14 front swap, and steel braided lines.

SVS is in the process of installing an SCCA legal roll cage, paint (think FC cinderella white on a red pinstripe at the base of the skirts).

For updates, uhm... follow this thread or me at Clubs12.org, Or somewhere else I go...

An image of the motor en-placed, a little un-refined.

Vehicle pre-coilovers parked at SVS

Shot of the s13 front suspension before installation

Point at which transmission mount won't work

These brakes will be removed in favor of the s14 front brakes (along with modifications described above)

Little photo from my old days volunteering for NMTARC and SCCA up north in the Albuquerque area

Video that Eric at SVS put together for me, which kind of lets you see more stuff

you can put the front end back to 5 lug pretty easily with conversion hubs for s13 or s14 SE hubs. and for cheap but good brakes check out an infiniti Q45 at the junkyard. theyre big and powerful. Z32 aluminum brakes would still be much better for road racing tho. but damn expensive

Uhm... The whole thread isn't here yet.  The brakes are s14 5 lug conversion.

picked out the seats today, should be arriving in time to test the car before the first time trial event,

Right now riding on Khumo escta's.  I'll be keeping everyone posted in one blog, and should have that uplink available within a month or so.

Now I've picked out the after-market differential, its a KAAZ limited slip 2-way build for an open differential r200 from an s13.

I'll have to use a few bits from the long nose diff and place them into the short nose, should be a simple matter of retaining the 200sx's ring and pinion.

ahhh... sexy sexy! Gonna try to post up photos of the car as soon as I get home.

Well, getting ready for some real track time it was the ideal time to think about safety and all that.  With an SCCA legal roll cage already installed, seats and harnesses were the logical next step.

Already been said in the vg30de exotic swap section, but I'll move it here anyways.

M

You can see where we were before these parts were ordered, obviously the seat is going to be installed only once I can sit in it.  I'll try to get photos up of the Diff going into the car too so it can help others with the same process...

And why a used r200 CLSD scared me (or how to make your pumpkin a jack o' lantern)->

This was actually done while testing the car following a BMW 5 series down the interstate (I let him get ahead of me by about 200 meters as a "cop target")  And suddenly, power went out about halfway, then the rear wheels locked up followed by them moving again, but I slowly ground to a stop.

Due to the limited availability of CV axles, some ghetto rigging was done

Also, still missing photos of the 5 lug s14 conversion.  Slotted cross-drilled rotors all around folks!

Once the wire tuck was finished and a few deletes were done, the engine bay really cleared up.  Hoping to rock some videos of her at the track  soon here too.

it's officially less than a month before her first run on the track, so I'm happy to let you guys know what's going on.

I'll be releasing a website utilizing my web design company called projektcar.com, we'll look to help people get their rides featured and do full product reviews (anything that goes onto my car will be linked to here so you guys know how it's all working together on the track).

I'm going to try to fully document the KAAZ 2-way LSD installation on my build thread here so you anyone interested in the same part can find a quick guide to help them out (I don't expect it to be complex, but it might re-assure weekend warrior mechanics that it's not a difficult process).

I'll preview all the videos here, but there may be a few issues with 'rights' to the whole content.  With quick links on the forum to new fairladys12 content, I'm hoping it works out for all my endeavors.

Wish I had more guides here for you guys, I was deployed for the majority of the cars build and used advice from this forum to select the modifications on my car, so hopefully it's going to be a great testing season for late 2012 and we can go a full season in 2013!

and I'm back, time for a photo shoot.  Also picked up a 2002 Ford Explorer v8 and they're adding a tow package for me

And, here they are!

First up, the tower.  Why is it in my build thread? because I need a tow vehicle...

KAAZ install

My brother was holding the camera for this, but since it got a little bit of a two-man job I had to  steal him away after the CV axles came off

And here's some more eye candy-

Last night SVS's Supra went to the drag strip, next weekend it's my turn to turn some heads at Arroyo Seco Raceway on the 11th.

Very pumped, althouth the HD go-pro's didn't all work out the way I hoped yesterday, I'm really thinking I"ll get this down by the end of the week (one's battery died because I left it on after test mounting, and the other fell off in a cup-holder...)
