Colorado's on FIRE
« on: 11:29:15 PM / 24-Jun-12 »
No, seriously , there is a shit ton of fires burning here. I can see the Waldo Canyon one from my front porch. Some of my friends will come stay with me, as their houses are directly in the path of the fire.
The smoke and stuff reminds me of the Glacier national park fire in Montana, but the fire itself was worse. The WHOLE mountainside there was on fire and you could see it plane as day.
I am on the front side of the waldo canyon one, so I'd hate to see the back side. I'd go pull my volunteer card, but then id have to go do hard labor with a mask on...thats not good for a bad hip.
Some friends are on the force though, so im sure ill get some pretty intense pics soon....

And another reason why Colorado doesn't have the best of everything is offered to us, the CS-12 people.

ouch. lol.

I think we should adopt a slash and burn criteria for or forests and parks. we just have to desert of a climate.....and crazy people that love to start fires.
It works in WV. We have to do it there or its a fine. Some of the people even use mule teams, We (my neighbors) had draft horses so we'd spend a bout a week out of the first month of summer clearing timber and such.

Colorado is still IMO one of the top 3 greatest states in the nation for an easygoing lifestyle.

I really, really don't qualify "Abandon your house, the wildfire is gonna consume it" as, "Easy going"....

We are deff NOT the only state with wild fires. I was in Montana for the Glacier national park fire and it was FAR worse.
Just for the record, the one close to Colorado Springs (waldo canyon) is the first fire of this magnitude or this close to Colorado Springs.
I can verify that since the 80's, my mom can verify that since the 80. My grandmother is getting old but she says she cant remember one during her time either. News, verifies it as well lol.

We have a couple of fires burning in CO now that are close to breaking the record for "largest wildfire in state history" by acerage.  If I remember right (didn't bother to google the info before I started typing) the Hayman fire a few years back holds the current record at 88,000 acers or something.  Sounds impressive until you consider a few other states like Oregon that get at least one fire over 100,000 nearly every year.  Only difference is in Oregon 95% of the population is on the West side of the forest so the smoke and flames don't have enough target population to be news worthy.  Here in CO the fires always burn and blow towards the people instead of away.

On a light note, when the Hayman fire was burning here in CO the trial of Timothy McVey was going on.  One particular day the smoke from the fire had visibility down to a half mile or so and there was ash raining from the sky in downtown Denver.  The following day the front page of the new defunked Rocky Mountain News had a large picture taken between the skyscrapers with a caption "SMOKE CHOKES CITY".  In the bottom corner of the front page was a picture of McVey and the caption "McVey requests trial in Denver.  Cites better security and cleaner air."  Editor FAIL!
I was afraid all the five gallon buckets of pain stacked four high were going to fall over
