Title: My Swap Is Finally Finished!! And More...
Post by: misterrick on 12:56:26 AM / 10-Aug-07
well after a month and a half my ca18det swap is finally finished. it was done at Calgary Autoworks, so i cant take any of the credit on that. my original engine had vavltrain problems and would only run on 2 cylinders, so after speaking with the guy i bought it from i was delivered another one. which turned out to have a lightweight flywheel and possibly some internals. still hard to be sure.

im running a microtech standalone ecu, which is great because i now i can run an open turbo.  DOWN WITH MAF! and not to mention the fact that its around 200whp

im being lazy and dont wanna upload all my pics, but i have them here if anyones interested in seeing more.
My cardomain page (http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2706273)

on a side note, im selling my bnib apexi neo. pm me for details.

my mechanic also told me to get a fan shroud. its been fine so far, and  my electric fan should be here in a couple days.   as for the rad hose, its not actually touching, just real close. but i didnt think about the heat affecting it.....good thing its stainless piping...thats a start lol

Looks good, other than all those hoses and wires on the firewall. Looks sort of dangerous.

Btw, how did you route your intercooler piping? I'm collecting ideas for my setup.

ill take some pics of just the piping setup and post them later tonight or tommorow.

and yeah, i have a bunch of little things to do now that i have it back, including wrapping that hose and cleaning up wires, etc.

im still guessing at hp numbers. lawrence who tuned it said he did a 1.8t jetta recently with a standalone that made 230whp. He claims that my car is way faster. he figures 300hp out of the motor, but im still a bit skeptical......

You mean to the radiator? It allows air to be sucked up by the fan through the other side of the radiator when the car is not moving

if I may know, how much did you pay for the swap? I mean total cost. if you don't want to share it with the world, you can PM me.

if a ca18et can run 13's on street tires, then a ca-det better be able to

Swap looks good by the way misterrick

lol looks funny with two fans.  You shouldn't even need a shroud with that gnarly fan.  What ecu?
Lucky!!!  Bonus JDM lightweight flywheel.

my ecu is a microtech lt8s. luckily ive even had the microtech rep for my area working on my car. he wants to try some new things that he learned recently for free, so thats sweet, lol now as long as my tranny doesnt explode too soon...... its already sounding like metal on metal when i decelerate.....

you still need some sort of shroud for that electric fan lol, most kits come with one dont they? you could even get an altima dual fan setup for like 50 bucks

i know i need a shroud, thats why i have both fans in until i get one. the perma-cool doesnt come with one in the kit. which is one of the reasons its referred to as the "finger-chopper"

Just put the stock shroud back on.....My stock shroud fits around my Perma Cool fan

well the trouble is that when i took it out i was being lazy and chopped it up instead of disconnecting hoses, etc.  so i have to go to the pick-n-pull and get another one.

do you ever get over 84 degree's celcius with just your perma-cool?

It never overheated without the shroud, but the benifits are with using a shroud is you keep all your fingers, and also the shroud directs the hot air at the engine....without the shroud, the fan would blow hot air 90 degrees out to the sides.......so the battery, rad. support, air filter pod, and pretty much everything under the hood was getting super heat soaked......especially the rad. support....it would get so hot, you couldn't touch it for long......but once I put the rad shroud on....it was like night and day difference
