its on the rise...like the ls1, its in many imports. its all aluminum, weighs in at 400-420 lbs. they're cheap as hell...cheaper than ka24de's now . i know they arent the best v8, but they have potential. why not go vh, you may ask....vh are rising in price too. i have been offered a complete 92 sc400 1uz for $500.
im looking at around another $500 for the trans setup. r154 trans with a milled down bellhousing and a custom plate. i can have an adapter plate made for around $150 from a buddy. evrything else i can handle on my own.
so whats everyones opinion on this swap? has it been attempted in a s12 yet? im seriously on track to doing this. i might sell the ka for funds. flame on.......
Do it.
my buddy dropped one in a corolla - its f**kin sick - my next swap will be the 1uz,,,,

thats where i got some inspiration actually. seeing how it fits in a corolla with plenty of room, it should shoehorn into a s12 nicely. i'd still have room for a rad and e-fans...and to change the belt...lol

BAH it's a toyota!!! I'd perfer to get a TB48 and turbocharger that almost a 5.0 V8 inside a I6 i know it doesn't sense
4.8 inline 6 turbo is what i'm sayin.

this threads about the 1uz...nothing else. dont threadjack guy...and besides inline 6's hang way to far over our front crossmember. with a I6 our s12's will handle like a 5.0..lol

ohh man thats nice, i wish my s14 had that. looks like he still is using the s14 brake booster too. do you know how well it cleared the steering linkage?

no such thing as a cheap UZFE swap, for all that matter Toyota Engine.
i hate to change a starter on that thing
Price vs Power thats a better choice than the LS1, IMO.

Ok fine for 1UZ vs. LS1, but price vs. power, then the KA-DE still wins hands down if you're in North America, because it's less fabrication costs and you can toss in easier maintenance along with it.
I like this 1UZ idea, don't get me wrong... but I think to say it's a cheaper swap than a KA swap is a bit of a stretch. Then again we can get complete KA-DE motorsets for $600 or less, and you're talking a grand total. And the KA will bolt in, where this...
Like I said, it's a cool engine, a good idea even, but it's definitely not a more practical choice than the KA, at least for North American S12 owners.
For that matter, I'd even prefer an SR20DE over that, both for price and for ease of installation, and for aftermarket potential.
im looking at doin the same thing at the moment while my mate puts one in his ae86..cant beat the sound i reckon
It's funny i found this thread because this is exactly what i'm doing to my s12 once the ca20e goes. However i'm not going for the manual transmission, i plan on using the stock transmission setup as my car is an auto and its just my DD. I can get a 1uzfe for less than $500 up here, and thats cheaper than what the KA's are going for. Seems the ka-t craze has boosted the price of those. Plus i'm a toyota fanboy and much prefer their motor's to the nissan motors
funny thing is, that V8 looks to be about the same size/dimensions as the VG30E.

i was just thinking the same exact thing
I worked on one of these a few weeks ago. I did a timing belt and water pump. they are easy to work on. I thought it was a cool engine but being that i'm die hard nissan guy. i would rather have a vh45 thats just my opinion. but it would be super cool to se in a s12.
If you don't want one, wait 'till you hear one with an ITB conversion... this is exactly how an engine should sound...
Here is a link if you don't believe me

I'd do that in a heartbeat of only I still owned an s-12 or any rwd chassis as a matter of fact
That video put a smile on my face. sounds cool as hell.
they look cooler with ITBs as well.
Geezus is that kinda what my RS-X will sound like once I get it fired up? Weber side drafts with horns is actually ITB's. One per runner.

wheres the vid????
1uz's are sweet...
oh and changing the starters not bad either, the intake mani comes off really easy. not many vac lines to worry about too.
my buddy did the swap into a ae86 and this is what it cost him:
2500 for a half cut shipped from vancouver to his door
600 for custom bellhousing from australia to mate with a w58 tranny
600 for new clutch and pressure plate
500 for w58 tranny from a 85 supra to handke the added hp
500 for a rear diff outta a 81 celica to handle the added hp
100 for the shortened balanced driveshaft
60 made his own motor mounts and tranny mount
600 for a detroit locker lsd shipped to his house
550 for the new 4 row custom brass rad to keep it from overheating, and to relocate
the inlet/outkets
1200 for new brembo brakes and 12" rotors all the way around because he cooked the \
original brembo rotors with portfield pads
free did all the wiring himself (he does electronics for a living)
1000 just for the material to make custom headers to fit the car, did all the tig
welding himself
600 for the rest of the exhaust and mufflers (flowmasters i think)
This is just the stuff i can remember off the top of my head, i'm sure theres other things he's had to buy that i'm missing, like the starter went when he got it, the powersteering pump was missing, ect. all add up. All in all he said he spent about 10 grand to do this swap, now do you have to do everying he did? no. But it won't last long like we have found out (cooling, brakes ect)
I also forgot to mention that he's running the stock ECU, but at almost 300 hp in these cars - who needs to add more?

v8 vs 4 cylinder....so...not really. If you want to hear what it sounds like type in carbed 4age into youtube. They are .4 liters less displacement, but have as many cylinders as you and are most likely running webers instead of ITBs. Its actually really common in japan for ae86 owners to run webers or ITBs where as stateside everyone boosts or super charges ae86s.
If someone has a use for it, I have a complete 4age silvertop intake with 42mm ITBs, injector, fuel rail, etc... I bought it off for a project, but I sold the car so I'm stuck with this...
You could buy an other set of 4 ITBs and machine a flange to bolt-on to this beast of yours...
just imagine that shit in an s-12...
