Don't you have to pull the engine and fix the compression on number 4 before you can really drive it? I would imagine it probably doesn't run very well or have much power with a dead hole.

Oh it drives and still pulls but more like a ca18et lol it actually idles fine if i fired it up for you right now you wouldn't even know there was a problem with it till you rev it up and smoke pours out of the exhaust.....oh and it has a slight subie sound to it...

He actually custom made the se kit lol imo it looks batter than the factory one also those rear flaps are from a corolla that he fabbed to fit the s12 from a distance it looks good up close you can tell it needs a little work the lip is an actual se lip tho....

Hey Bro

Can I interest you in a steal bumper support for the MKI?  I will not be needing the one I have very much longer and since it is on a MKII...  You pay shipping and it is yours.

Just askin.

no need to answer i'm just bustin ya and i'm gonna see ya tomorrow

Yeah the hot pipe is a custom job by me lol the hot pipe he had didn't fit after I swapped turbos it was off by three inches so I got some rad pipe and used the coupler to make it fit lol some mcgyver shit just needed it to run so while tow on oacassion I could start the motor to charge the battery so my lights and hazards don't go dead lol

ive had the same thing happen to me jason. they didnt take shit either but my faceplate not even the radio the fuckin faceplate. the principle alone made me want to kill.... bad. so i feel ur frustration
Title: Project: Fix That Shit!
Post by: Kustamogen on 03:22:20 PM / 11-Apr-10
last summer with my mx3 some fucktards took my faceplate out of my deck and put it on the ground and smashed it (it was just outside the door)

then they took my hood release handle and somehow bent it completely backwards (with their feet!) and snapped it off!!!! .....and they took like 10 bux in nickels and pennies from my console!

the next night I left a $20 on the dash and watched out the window with a golf club in my hand....I wanted to smash some shins!

Alrighty i'm finally getting to work on my beast gonna pull the head and see whats up as soon as I get off work. I will let you guys know how bad the damage best case scenario is a blown head gasket worst case scenario i'll need a new block *crosses fingers hoping for it to be the first one* wish me luck and hope for the best lol
Title: Project: Fix That Shit!
Post by: sideways_s12 on 03:30:03 PM / 01-May-10
Ok Iggy, Mrs. Sideways and myself pulled apart the motor last and found very minimal damage to the motor first the head gasket was blown and second the #4 piston had a very slight hole around the edge near th cyl wall so from an assement last night I need a head gasket and a piston luckily I bought rods and pistons from the det for my single cam project so I have a spare set lol while I'm in there I'm gonna rering all 4 and check the bearings and make sure they are within spec then hopefully I can this bad boy up and running by the end of the month.. Wish me luck I will keep you updated as usual....

alright got some pics of the damage turnsout not only was the piston burned but we found broken ring lands actually I should say destroyed ring lands lol on with the pics...

no.4
(http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s256/RaveRacer07/Y29udGVudDovL21lZGlhL2V4dGVybmFs-4.jpg)

compared to no.1

ringland comparison the broken one is no.4

Sorry the flash fucks it up but without it you cant see it lol anyway I have spare rods and pistons that were for my single cam project so I will be replacing the number 4 piston also will be replacing the rings on all of them and also the bearings they weren't to bad but I figure why not since they are out....oh and btw the det is way easier to work on than the single cam lol. But don't get it twisted I still love the single cam....

On a different note the wiring is super fucked lol I don't think a shop did it I don't think a shop would do that bad of a job on wiring he ran the wiring like it was an s13 so the ecu is on the wrong side lol not to mention the there's a huge rat nest of wiring on the driverside right behind the drivers side light...we got rid of the the rats nests behind the pass side tho...turned out to be the hids he was trying to wire up lol I got rid of all that shit. So I have hids if anybody wants them lol but you gotta figure out the wiring lol.

Ill check those out and see it just pisses me off how much time effort and money I have dropped into this thing to have this result. Hopefully its something simple that can be fixed quick
Title: Project: Fix That Shit!
Post by: Kustamogen on 01:27:54 PM / 05-Aug-10
lol when I put my headgasket on flipped....and went to put oil in and saw it seeping out the head/block.....I was ready to put my fist through the windshield

youll find the issue and fix it.....just disheartening when she like that happens after a lot of work
Title: Project: Fix That Shit!
Post by: sideways_s12 on 01:58:53 PM / 07-Aug-10
well the head is not seated properly mrs.sideways_s12 and myself went to check it out and she could stick her finger nail between the head and the block on the driverside and she said she couldn't feel the gasket at all so I will be replacing the gasket and the headstuds I'm going to buy arp headstuds so I don't have to deal with the bullshit any more lol....
Title: Project: Fix That Shit!

lets get her on the road!
Title: Project: Fix That Shit!
Post by: sideways_s12 on 11:15:51 PM / 07-Aug-10
hahah relized the number 10 headstud was not torqued down properly so that was the issue but now I actually need a new head gasket because on the pass rear it's leaking and I think i know why lol so there goes another 70 bux down the drain lol
Title: Project: Fix That Shit!
Post by: EightySix200SX on 07:03:25 AM / 08-Aug-10
Damn. Well that's. good at least u have a good idea on what the issue is! Best of luck dude. Let us know if that turns out to be the culprit
Title: Project: Fix That Shit!
Post by: sideways_s12 on 02:34:28 PM / 08-Aug-10
It is because its leaking between the head and the block right where the gasket is damaged thought it was ok because it was a little beat but not major I've used worse headgaskets on the single cam and it was fine lol oh well new head gasket it is...

haha we shoulda grabbed that fwd head when we had the chance.  always happens that way
Title: Project: Fix That Shit!
Post by: sideways_s12 on 11:25:05 AM / 09-Aug-10
Iono I don't think its the head because we didn't have a leak issue till we reinstalled it I'm gonna check the torque of the head in that area then if it still leaks gonna replace the gasket if it leaks after that then ill replace the head I really just think its the gasket but we'll find out soon
Title: Project: Fix That Shit!
Post by: Mrs.Sideways_S12 on 01:24:36 PM / 09-Aug-10

changed oil which was long overdue. While changing oil crushed the old oil filter because it decided it wanted to stay on the motor finally got it off and heaved it into the mighty mississippi (yes from vegas I was pissed!) advanced the timing because it was really retarded because iggy and myself didn't know why it was off so much (think it's the wire not reading it right) but the car has more power and is waaaaay smoother up top and down low also boost kicks in in sooner as well. Still need to fix this pesky oil leak problem it is really annoying...

My F..king TPS is going on it now, its DTC code is appearing, and at the same time that happened i got a pin hole in the top of my rad which is covered and i cant see it without pulling the thing half way out... :( I also have a vacuum leak to find. My Jeep is awesome, never had a major problem, just a few little bugs that come as it needs maintenance.

My s 12 wont be anything new. Jeep- Just Empty Every Pocket

Lifted the rear of my black car to try to figure out the noise I have coming from the rear whil on jack stands started it and put it in first to see what the wheels do turns out when I accelerate and let off with out touching the brakes the driverside rear stops completely and then struggles to start moving again of course this is only in the air because the force of the motion of the car keeps the wheel from sticking......

stock rating at the crank is ~175 btw.  he is running stock turbo on stock boost with stock fueling and management.  only mods are like he said tubular exhaust manifold, full 3" exhaust, and a cone filter.  realisticly we will se about 170 at the wheels. maybe less.  imo he should do a stock boost pull.  then add a MBC and do a 2 12psi pulls.  the dyno has a wideband in use so no worry of leaning without seeing it coming first.  George has his eye on the afr the whole time
Title: Re: Project: Black Widow
Post by: Jeremy A on 02:14:59 AM / 16-Feb-11
Ohhhhh,  that makes sense.    So you think maybe 200 at 12psi?  And where and how does the dyno obtain the readings from the engine to give an air/fuel ratio?  What kind of dyno would that be considered?
Title: Re: Project: Black Widow
Post by: IggyEGuana on 02:23:24 AM / 16-Feb-11
hopefully.  I made 202whp on 12psi with a similar setup except i had a T25G instead of the stock T25.  But i was also running the incorrect ecu which made the car run very poorly with shitty fueling and timing.  i had a old school AFC on there and it barely made it able to hald an AFR but then the stock feal pump couldnt keep up in the top end so i leaned out before i got a full pull.  we will see how jasons does but on 12psi i'm hoping for 201 or more.  he could go 14psi just on the dyno cuz his AFR will be monitored but without the ability to adjust his fueling right now he wont be able to do anything about it if it goes lean and he only gets 3 pulls on the dyno.
Title: Re: Project: Black Widow
Post by: Prolowtone on 02:39:23 AM / 16-Feb-11
That makes me wonder what i would dyno with my CA18DET. comes with piping pro intake, Blitz boost controller. Making a down payment on it tomorrow :P. Already have 50 Trim turbo, tubular header,Mega Squirt, Wide band controller, Aeromotive FPR, Walbro 225lph pump. Just need dual spray injectors if they are not already on my motor.
Title: Re: Project: Black Widow
Post by: sideways_s12 on 02:47:09 PM / 16-Feb-11
It feels pretty stout for it to only be 170 but I haven't really done anything to increase the power so.... I'm hoping for the best. Need to find that boost controller you made.

After I believe def sounds like after but can't really tell in the car it sounds like its directly under the shifter and under the hood it sounds like its directly above the turbo on one of the runners but on the underside where you can't see it without taking the mani off.... Of course this would happen right when I want to go dyno lol just my fuckin luck...

Post by: sideways_s12 on 02:25:42 PM / 19-Feb-11
I blew a chunk of the manifold out 2 cracks in it intersected.

Ok I went and dynoed my car last night and pulled down 157hp and 153tq in stock form all I had was 3 inch exhaust had to swap back to the stock manifold since the tubular took a shit on me.....I will post up the vid of it along with the dyno sheet as soon as I get a chance.

Post Merge: 11:28:18 AM / 20-Feb-11
Ok found my boost controller and installed it 15psi fells awesome on the car even though its out of the effeiciency (sp) range of the turbo...while crusing to the runs last night my oil feedline decided to go fuck itself and I spewed oil everywhere and the car started smoking enough to where someone called the fire dept because they thought my car was on fire....lol 4 hours got it fixed and its back on the road and boost is down to 12psi which isn't bad....might be picking up some cam gears here soon there cheap so I can't pass them up...

welp the car is down again due to leaks got a nasty coolant leak along with an oil leak again I got a perm fix to the oil leak tho just got my fittings for the ss oil feed line so this will eliminate the prob permanetly and as soon as i fix that the coolant leak will be fixed perm as well then on to the fuel pump to get swapped finally oh and oil gauge will be fixed as well just waiting for one more piece to get here and i'll be set to do all this. Also ordered cam gears and they are also here. just need to upgrade the turbo add 1000cc injectors and tune it  and we will see some big numbers *hopefully*

So far so good on the swapped t25g no leaks anywhere except an slight exhaust leak between the mani flange and turbo flange but other than that its all good runs pretty solid now prob gonna swap back to the canucks that aren't cut I got a lot of rubbing in the rear to the point where its damaging the tires also gotta figure out why my pass front tire is so worn I haven't had any fun in the car in awhile just daily driving so I don't understand the wear. Anyway probably gonna up the boost a lil. But don't know gonna fix the bumper soon as well so the car will look good again.

Welp I think it's time to change the clutch master. Pedal is starting to feel mushy and the engagement of the clutch keeps getting lower and lower so Yeah it's about time to change the old 87 stuff out and put new stuff in....On a side note I may try to talk to the girly into buying this notch I keep seeing....Iono We'll see tho it's pretty cheap and pretty clean too.....I've wanted a notch since I had my first one.
Title: Re: Project: Black Widow
Post by: Prolowtone on 11:58:20 PM / 29-Dec-11
My clutch disengages at the very top... When i first started driving, i would be cruising along and  not notice my foot was leaning against the pedal and it would cause it to slip (I think this clutch is shot).

Post by: sideways_s12 on 12:42:39 AM / 30-Dec-11
yeah mine keeps engaging lower and lower I know the clutch is good because it's new well semi new anyway still grabs pretty good the pedal is just mushy as shit oh out with the old in with the new....

Finally finished cutting my bumper lol six months later now if only I could find the bolts that hold the skin to the bumper and I will be set decided to leave the se lip off and see how she looks if i like then the se lip will stay off and prob go up for sale...Also got some plugs for my wiring coming so i can complete some of the connections that are hacked up....Might grap the exhaust of the red car and install it on the black car since i had to cut the exhaust of the black because the P.O. made the down pipe to big and with the height of the car it constantly caused exhaust leaks or broke runners or bolts etc but for now she runs well just need to get the wiring fixed which will happen soon hopefully....

Fixed my maf plug finally now that the connections are solid it pulls much more consistently then the choopiness I was getting at high rpms still have some kinks to work out but she runs well and pulls good at 15psi.  I owned a stock turbo genesis the other night lol he wasn't to happy about that.....bumper will be going on this week I will post pics of the finished product when I can nand you guys can give me your opinions or not whatever lol tax time is around the corner so expect there to be more updates on mods and power and improvements. Next on the improvements list will be a new radiator and to toss the cut springs I have in the garbage....and replace with some good rear spring and perch set-up....

600lbs I borrowed iggy's springs back when we were cool and they were nice I didn't mind the ride it's not to bad....it's those eibach ones that were in his thread but i might go up later tho to 700's maybe...
Title: Re: Project: Black Widow
Post by: sam31183 on 09:18:09 PM / 05-Feb-12
I am running 550 sss blue coils. I thought iggy was running a pair of sss blues though and not eibachs. Did you get the adjustable perch sleeves? I had mine maxxed out for a couple of weeks but I raised the car back up today. I could hear the springs banging around more then before and I was also getting this weird squeeking noise that I think might have been related. I also rewired my ground wire for my fog lights that I bought from you a long time ago. I originally had them grounded to the mounts, but I ran the ground wire into the engine bay, cuz the grounds kept getting dirty.

He was running a set of blues they were 900lbs but he switched later to the eibachs I forget why tho something about a consistent slide....and not bumpy or choppy or something....

Where did you order your springs from,  and what kinda coin did they set ya back? I'm going to need to get my car. Lower, I just don't have any love for 4x's ya know. Oh and also,  your rims, you said they were just. Stock turbo wheels but there much nicer looking than my turbo wheels, what year had yours on them? I like um, and would run them long term over my wheels.

The springs i got from speedwaymotors.com 0675.500.1000 - EIBACH PROGRESSIVE PULL BAR SPRING, 6-3/4" rate 600lbs http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Eibach-Pull-Bar-Springs,271.html  But you'll need to get perches for the springs as they will be too short to run on their own the perches I got from daymotorsports I can't think of the part number off the top of my head right now.... but they are adj perches  the spring set me back 126 bucks that includes shipping I just got them today actually. I ordered them on sat and shipped it ground.

On a side note im just waiting on my perches to get here so I can install the springs and waiting for someone on ebay to get back to me about a fan shroud with fans for my rad once I get all that figured out the rad and springs will be going in and I will be getting new tires....

But on the other hand I have  never fully built a motor myself. So im at an crossroads
Title: Re: Project: Black Widow
Post by: Arro on 08:40:16 PM / 27-May-12
Building an engine is more than just having a place to work on a car. There are some specialized tools you will need and the know-how to use them (meaning someone should probably show you). Simply reading instructions on the use of certain special tools isn't going to give you the same results as someone in-the-know showing you some tips and tricks to understand what possible mistakes to avoid and what techniques you can use to improve results with specialized tools.

Specialized tools for engine assembly can be anything like torque wrenches (yes, you'll need at least two different sizes and not the cheapo generic ones -- go with Matco or Snapon and ALWAYS unbind the spring after every use, or have someone else build your engines), tap and dye set (for removing stuck and broken studs and bolts), and others.

Also, there is only so much you can do out of a home garage. You can sometimes get away with using a bottle hone, for example, on an engine that has very good condition cylinder walls, but an engine with scored cylinder walls will need to be bored, not honed. That means a competent machine shop to do the work. Determining if a cylinder wall is honable or needs to be bored takes some experience, and internet pictures of either scenario won't help as well as someone with a trained eye who has seen both conditions firsthand (meaning you need a friend to show you on your engine). Only honing a cylinder that needs to be bored will result in poor ring sealing between the piston and the cylinder walls... that means oil blowby, which is bad for a number of reasons that are a discussion in of themselves. The other side of this is to bore out cylinders isn't cheap if done by a trustworthy shop, and with an inline engine (especially an inline six) there is a chance that the boring process could produce a slightly out-of-round result... hone plates are used to prevent this, but that incurs more cost.

Also, a factory service manual and a full understanding of how to use torque specs and procedures is important. On some engines, certain parts require removal of bolts in a certain order, as well as replacement in the same order (to the proper torque specs). In other situations, there is the experience of knowing how much assembly grease is good to use (again, a friend with some experience is invaluable with that) or how big/small of a gasket bead to squirt onto a surface (again, more experience).

Finally, there are helpful habits that must be learned, such as labelling (or photographing) where certain wires, bolts, brackets, and clips go as you remove them, and keeping things organized in jars, silverware trays, or whatever else lets you avoid losing small fasteners. While this might seem like common sense to you (and many others who try their hand at building an engine), it often gets forgotten in the excitement of a tear-down. It's not just about common sense, but about habits. Again, a friend with some experience will be helpful in reminding you and getting you into the right habits, while making sure you're on the right track with all the other little things.

Plus, having an experienced friend means if you run into a problem, chances are they can help you solve it based on previous experience with a similar issue. And of course, an extra pair of hands is never a bad thing.

Just keep this in mind: building your own motor is a serious commitment for a first-time thing. For those who've done it a dozen or more times, it's still a lengthy process, and like a work of art it takes more than a day or even a weekend to do it right. For a newbie, it may even take longer, as the unexpected and the stubbornly stuck parts will take your original guestimate of time and multiply it greatly (even exponentially).

Engine building isn't for everyone. But if you have the time (a LOT of time), the patience (a LOT of patience), the tools (a LOT of tools including some oddball ones you didn't plan on initially needing), and the money (because often times the only solutions to unexpected problems in engine building are to spend money on an unplanned tool, unplanned part, or unplanned machine shop work)... if all that is fine for you, then it is rewarding, and often times it can save you a lot of money while letting you get a level of quality that is in YOUR hands.

There's something to think about ;)

I totally understand where your coming from. Also I took autotech in high school I have a good understandimg of things and how they work. As far as machine work goes I wont be doing it myself that would go to a machine shop where they have to the tools I dont to bore or hone depending on what it needs. Basically I would be disassembling ordering parts and assembling the motor after machining...

Acquired an engine hoist lol took me like 3 hours to assemble it because harbor freight Sux and nothing would line up and it was missing bolts wtf? Anyway got the rad pulled and unhooked everything that would keep the motor from being pulled. All I need to do is drain the oil and Trans unbolt the mounts and the motor will be out.
Title: Re: Project: Black Widow
Post by: Arro on 12:51:28 PM / 07-Jun-12
You have an engine stand right? I usually drain the oil once it's out of the car, but meh... it's preference. You might have a bit of trouble getting the input shaft out of the trans... lots of yanking tends to jolt it loose. Every now and then one just comes out smoothly, but every time I've done it the shaft is stuck a bit in the trans. Also, have someone help you keep it stable as you tilt and remove the motor/trans... you need someone to jack the pump while the other person keeps ahold of the engine to prevent it from banging into shit, and to make sure the trans doesn't get stuck.

You better get someone to take pics! Wanna see you pull this bitch

Alrighty here's an update on one of the many projects I got going...

First Off I picked up a second job so I'll have the funds to get this going and complete it. I cleaned up my garage on wednesday to make room for pulling the motor and also so my wife doesn't kill herself trying to do the laundry. I also prepped the motor to be pulled I just need to pull the the speedo cable off drain the trans fluid and unhook the trans wiring and then the motor will beable to come out once out I'm taking it to a shop to have them rebuild it probably going to go with a stock rebuild for now untill I pick up another det to make big power on. but this motor is going to be running a t3/t4 with 580's from an evo 8 and my cam gears are going on....that I've had for about 2 years lol... so hopefully I will beable to drive my car in about a month or month and a half.... Gonna try and fix some of the gremlins while the engine is out of the car like my tach not working and speedo not working also going to put my wlabro 255 in as well. Once I figure out this wiring situation I can hook up my safc until I get nistune or maybe megasquirt I haven't decided yet...

it keeps metalshavings away which usualy grind those nasty marks in your flywheel.

Its made of win!

also can generate a vortex at 180mp/h which allow you to travel backwards in time to punch the person which did this wiring job........

Man that black beast is going to run as good as it looks when your done. What bumb sticks you go with? And what all are you having done to your motor? Im waiting on a set of rings. Had no idea synthetic oil was bad for brake in. Couldn't figure out how I went from 165 psi on a comp test to 120 after running it for a day. It started smoking, so when I pulled the head I found  i had glazed the cylender walls. now the block has been honed and waiting. Im loosing momentum on this thing, I need to get out and drive so I can get fired back up.

Title: Re: Project: Black Widow
Post by: sideways_s12 on 04:38:00 PM / 19-Jun-13
yeah i think he painted it.  How do I keep the raw look looking good? Should I hit it with a clear coat? I just don't want it to rust up.
Title: Re: Project: Black Widow
Post by: 8SixS12 on 06:50:36 PM / 19-Jun-13
If those are aluminum obviously they won't rust but they will start to turn black so a clar coat would help.  KBS coatings has this stuff called diamond coat that's supposed to be real good. You can spray it or brush it on.

NOOOOOOOO do not paint them or put anything on them. they'll be fine as is. you can polish them out to get rid of the raw look and then they'll look like sex and they wont oxidize as fast

Got some money coming Woot so I will beable to buy some more goodies to get it running. so hopefully once I get the stuff I need it'll only be a week or two provided I work on it on both my days off. I am really thinking about trading my 60 trim for a t28 just so I can get it running faster Not sure where or if I can find somone to trade me tho lol....
Title: Re: Project: Black Widow

I've got a t28. Shoot me some specs on the 60 trim and I might be interested.

What condition is the t28 in? and not really sure on the specs lol as i got it from a friend who got it from a friend who got it from a friend lol Iggy rebuilt it he might remeber the specs I'll have to ask him.

It's an s15 dual bb. It was in my 18ET for about six months and never got more than 6psi because that's all the CA could take. Bought it brand new when I used to turn wrenches for Nissan.

I could go either way depending on the specs. Just let me know. I also have s13 t25 that needs a rebuild if your interested. Of course I wouldn't expect a trade for that but I'd let it go real cheap.

Title: Re: Project: Black Widow
Post by: sideways_s12 on 08:30:31 PM / 22-Sep-13
They are staying the way they are. I have a spare set that I can get powder coated If I want. Right now I'm really just focusing on getting the damn thing in the car I just need a few more parts a couple of dump pipes to be exact and then clutch goes on and trans goes on then in the car it goes. I need to stop being lazy and just get it done. It's hard to get motivated to get it done when its just me. If I could get a few friends to help it would be a lot easier.

Yes and I don't know yet if its not to much I might be able to ship it over the guys over on s12oc want me to bring it lol I've been looking into it. if push comes to shove I'll just bring the drive train so I can swap it into a s12 when I get there.

Sounds good. I'll keep you posted. So you excited about the move?

I am! I've always enjoyed being the new guy. and besides this is a fresh start for me...Us and it's really something we need! I'm most likely taking the car with me. I've been over to s12OC and the guys over there think I should bring it with me. I've looked into it and so far it doesn't seem to be too expensive as long as I don't do door to door. From port to port its about 1400 before taxes! which isn't bad so I would have to drive it or tow it to cali and drop it off at the port then they put it in a container and on a ship and off she goes! Kendra is looking to see if they have package deals because they also ship other things as well like pets and furniture.

So that is an option besides I don't think I'll get what I want for it If I do decide to sell it. But you better absolutely fucking believe that I will be getting a skyline when I'm over there! lol

Title: Re: Project: Black Widow
Post by: sideways_s12 on 08:42:52 PM / 03-Oct-13
I got the clutch and flywheel on just need trans bolts so i can mate the trans and drop the motor in. While trying to move the motor around and lower it I saved it from totally fucking my oil pan. I was loering the motor and went to fast I pulled a vin diesel from fast and furious (the fourth one) and caught it by the chain before it slammed into the ground lol had to hold it with one hand and jack it back up with the other. It's shitty working on shit by yourself when you need an extra 2 hands. Oh well I saved it. Now to find some trans bolts.

nice build, sucks all that shit happened with that motor.. also is it a lot easier to drop the whole rear subframe to work on the suspension and diff? seemed like it..

and looks like you got some pretty good help out there.. here i have friends (with the exception of two) who try but usually stare at me with a blank look if i ask them to do anything technically challenging..and it ends up being a lesson in how to do something rather than help me do something..lol

but pretty cool build. and i have that same dump tube siting in my garage.. (didnt fit)

As far as the suspension and diff we pulled the whole subframe because iggy had a different car so he gave me his old subframe with his camber fix on it not to mention his welded r180 diff  my original diff was fucked from the previous owner (no oil is my guess) thats why we did the rear subframe other wise the rear suspension is easy. And the wastegate dump will get cut to fit it is waaaaaaaaay to long lol.

The downpipe you mean?  Yeah that's gonna be a custom affair.. I had to make mine ,I built a jig that I put my stock headers in.. Than bolted the turbo and manifold to it. Than I was able to figure out how much distance to the spipe or down pipe coupler.. Makes figuring the piping out a lot easier.

Ok I guess I should say I made a jig around my stock headers than removed them and placed the manifold and turbo in it to figure out clearances and distances

Lol god damned dude...hahahaha ok so you need a recirculated wategate dump....lol

My tc is setup open dump.. I like that the excess heat gets driven out of the system. Although I have to tune around the afr readings because it ends up bypassing the o2sensor. So the 02 maps and up all friggin weird except wot.. When the ecu doesn't run closed loop..

closed dump has a lot of good things going for it except excess egt levels. Easier to tune especially before 40% throttle

So I've found an oil dipstick tube on nico just waiting for the guy to get back to me with a price. and figured out my turbo dump situation so all that's left is to fab the dump modify the waste gate dump and get gas gonna fire it up without the rad installed to to make sure everything motor wise is good will only run for a min or 2 gonna check for leaks and such. Still have to drill holes for the mishi rad

woot wooot! yeah, Brandons had vac leaks the fist time it fired up, had to keep revving - stalled once off throttle. Think it was the big line beside intake mani was not plumbed into the intake, it would stay idling afterwards tho :) .

yeah well there's a lot of stuff not hooked up on it I was hoping to get it to run in limp mode where is would just idle but that didn't work lol So tomorrow (later today since it's after midnite here) when I get off work I'll go out there and try to hook everything up that I can.

No news of the build as IFO is this weekend tomorrow to be exact and the shop where my car is at will have a few cars he's built out there racing provided the rain clears up by then (yeah I said rain lol its been raining nonstop for the last few days which is odd lol)
Title: Re: Project: Black Widow
Post by: sideways_s12 on 04:15:53 PM / 28-Nov-13
The car is soooo close to being finished but the ecu is fucked the shop thought they fixed it but the ecu for whatever reason is not sending a signal to the number 1 injector He traced the wire and it's fine even tested the injector and thats fine as well so the only other option is something in the ecu is not right. I got one coming that I got off a member on nico club. So all that needs to be done is the wires for the o2 sensor wires need to be extended the wideband needs to be hooked up and the electric fans need to be hooked up not sure yet How I'm going to dp that one yet.

UGH!!!!!! On my way home running fine then out of nowhere she just cuts off power to everything just cuts off so I try to start her and all I get is crank crank off crank crank off as if something is loose or not connected I checked everything and nuthing is unhooked..... This car just does not want to come back!

Woot I'll have to upload some pics in a min videos to follow when I get rid of this gremlim I have but as she sits right she feels good and pulls pretty good at half throttle on 5psi (5 lbs ext wastegate spring ) gotta get used to driving a "racecar? again I forgot how stiff the suspension was lol so hitting bumps in the road threw me off.

Thanks! I believe he said 500 which between both jobs and kendras dialysis I will hit no problem. I just need to figure out this cas problem. and need to swap my coils with the ones you gave me as 2 of the ones I have on are going to shit. Need to reset the ecu as well. you have hear the ecu reading the motor it keeps adjusting it, it idles semi rough then raise then clear up and come back down lol cold idle is night and day difference then before but with being so cold out lately it seems to stay high in idle.

I might have gave you an extra CAS. I remember getting one off a pulsar but never needing it. I might have gave it with the motor tho. so long ago now. haha wow we are old.

take the CAS off and check it out mechanically. there was a thread on nico where the guy had problems for a long time and it turned out to be the little prong in there broken off the cam.

Turns out I figured out what the problem is. Apparently if your missing one of the alignment pins for the timing cover it throws off the alignment of the cam angle sensor and crank angle sensor when they are out of alignment it burns up the servo (or whatever its called in the cas = cam angle sensor) when that bhappens the car doesn't want to do anything.

So far 2 cars have been wrapped up in the web of the black widow. An Integra and a  n/a z32 the z32 apparently thought he had a chance because I wasn't trying to race It was sunday @ 3am (freeway empty) and I just wanted to get home but he refused to get off my ass so I down shifted into fourth and from 4k to 55k I put about 4 buses on him and that was at about 35 percent throttle on 5psi. I can't go full throttle until I upgrade my maf. I really can't wait to dyno the car and see where I'm at before I up the boost.

my afrs seem to be good but I ran into a new problem I got a damn exhaust leak! so now my car sounds like ass UGH! I hate that shit. I know exactly where it's coming from to so I need to find a bolt that will work for the back of the turbo. But other than she runs great.

Also need to hook up my oil catch can when I find it along with fixing one of my rad hoses that has a small leak I love the mishimoto rad tho the fans only kick on when the car has been sitting at idle but once it gets moving temp drops quickly and the needle is barely above the c when with the stock rad it would be in between the c and the midway mark also when the fans kick on they are only on for like 2 mins. I really like this set up I would love to know how it will react in the summer but we won't be here long enough for that to happen and england's weather is way better than vegas' lol and they don't generally get 100+ temps
Title: Re: Project: Black Widow
Post by: sideways_s12 on 08:01:49 PM / 31-Dec-13
So to to temp fix the hole where my shifter is I bought some carpet from Lowes and used it to cover the shifter hole since the P.O pretty much destroyed it trying to mod for the ca trans it doesn't do much for noise but the exhaust are'nt so heavy I got my piece from oem surplus and I'm going to order some dynamat for noise reduction and to eliminate the smell that coupled with the pice I got from oem surplus and the carpet it should be good to go. Also hooked up my wideband which is awesome because now I can keep track of afrs. idle I'm rich boost I'm rich cruising I'm stoich so not to bad for now once I find a safc that works I'll install the n60 maf I have and turn up the boost!

Here are some progress pics.

I got he exhaust leak semi fixed  turns out one of the wastegate bolts started to back so it blew the gasket got rid of the gasket and tightened down but its still leaking from somewhere else I'll have to get under the car to see if I can see where its coming from. Going to do my first after break in oil change in a couple of days coming along nicely slowly but nicely.

I have run into a new issue I think my fpr is taking a shit on me because I'm constantly running rich even when off throttle and the car dies if when coming to a stop but it fires right up when I start it it only does it when the motor is warm.

I have a walbro 255 lph. I just ordered a new adj fpr as I believe my old one is slowing going I'm dumping fuel at idle for sure she runs rich at idle my afrs read between 10 and 11.1 when driving she fine tho 14-15 while cruising and if I get on it goes right to 11 12 . I dont have much vacuum lines and I checked for leaks nothing is there the only thing I can think of is that my adj fpr is bad or slowly on it way out my fp is at 32psi while idling, and goes up when I rev it.

So I think ive run into an injector problem as my afrs read backwards 10-11 while idling 12-13 under boost  and 17-18 and sometimes no reading at all while not in boost. Its the number while not in boost that bothers me. It was never this lean when I first got it running also when cruising out of boost if feels as if I have a turbo motor but no turbo. It takes min to get up to speed unless I get in it in which case it hits boost and takes off still feels a bit hesitant but better... Not sure where to go from here any help would be appreciated ( although I probably wont get any)

When you had conected your wideband to your ecu did you turn the dip switch in the back to put it in narrow band mode (0-1v)? Your stock ecu is working in narrow band but the wideband orignal output i wideband (0-5v)
Title: Re: Project: Black Widow
Post by: AlEx_RaCiNg666 on 08:59:49 AM / 17-Jan-14
To check your injectors throw some 12v on each one at the time you should hear them clicking, i saw some old motor that the injectors were stuck closed but never saw stuck open...
Title: Re: Project: Black Widow
Post by: 8SixS12 on 10:01:21 AM / 18-Jan-14
Just start unplugging injectors at idle. If you pull one and idle doesn't change or the engine doesn't stumble then that's the bad one. I'd also check the ohm loads on each to be sure they're with spec.
Title: Re: Project: Black Widow
Post by: sideways_s12 on 10:18:25 PM / 18-Jan-14
I've been through the injector test and they all check out fine when Idling it's not the idling I'm worried about it's the very lean when cruising that bothers me.... 16 - 17 when cruising and sometimes it just gives me the 3 dashes - - - and you can feel the difference in performance and in the throttle but if I get into boost it richens up right away but should be richer than it is when I get into boost. I may have a vac leak some where I need to do a boost leak test to see where it might be so I can fix it I've checked the 5 vac lines i have and the bov everything seems to check out there. I'm lost. I want to up the boost but cant until I get this problem sorted...

Post by: Keith on 02:10:22 PM / 22-Jan-14
Seriously the further the maf is away from the turbo the better....i would say 8" at the minimum.  I remember a big discussion on this on Nico several years ago.
I was getting some kind of cut at around 5000-5500 a while back along with serious boost creep.  I decided to move my maf a little further away from the turbo and put the filter in the engine bay instead of in the wheel well....and instantly my boost creep went away, and the fuel cut disappeared.  Makes no sense to me...lol

What is the part number on  your maf?  If you're using a ca18et maf, then that could be your issue
Title: Re: Project: Black Widow
Post by: IggyEGuana on 12:21:09 AM / 23-Jan-14
22680-61A01 is the euro part number for ca18det MAF. in an old thread on here Prolowtone says his ca18det maf number is 22680-58A10. a couple other examples say thats the right one.

22680-18F00(i have this one) and 22680-18F01 are both ca18et. part searches say they are replaced by 22680-61A00 which is damn close to the euro dohc part number. kinda odd

btw usdm fwd ca18de lists the same maf numbers as the ca18et

Turns out both the mafs I have are 18et mafs. Also turns out that when I sold a maf to a member on here it was the det one. With that being said there is no exhaust leak and it turns out that my fpr is not working the way it should. It reads 38psi at idle and when you rev it its supposed to raise the pressure and that it does not. I ordered another one from ebay and it doesnt work so im stuck right now using the old crappy on untill I get some money.
Title: Re: Project: Black Widow
Post by: Keith on 11:25:07 AM / 24-Jan-14
Sucks man.....get a nismo fpr. i havent had any issues with mine....several years strong, knock on wood.
I need to check my fuel pressure gauge...i,m pretty sure my pressure drops when i blip the throttle from idle.  Now, under boost i' m guessing it raises
Title: Re: Project: Black Widow
Post by: sideways_s12 on 06:24:27 PM / 24-Jan-14
I was told that the fp should go up a bit when you rev it. Either way I was talking with Dee (Boost boy) on nico and he said to get rid of the ebay junk and get a real fpr in the meantime I can use the stock sr unit I have.
Title: Re: Project: Black Widow
Post by: Basic on 06:45:42 PM / 24-Jan-14
Yea, it should go up as the engine pressure increases from full vacuum into boost. As an example - the FSM says that a CA20 should have ~ 30psi fuel pressure at idle, and 37 psi at full throttle.

Easy way to test FPR is to hook a vaccume source (hand pump) to the FPR and plug the line to the manifold. Start the car and read the pressure. Then start applying vacuum - the fuel pressure should decrease as vacuum increases. Likewise, the opposite is true - as vacuum decreases (full throttle and boost) fuel pressure will increase.

Ok I need to know if any of you are using external wastegates? How do you know if it is taking a shit on on you? My boost gauge reads 5psi like it always has but the torque/power isn't there like it was when I first got the car back when I checked for my exhaust leak I also checked the turbo and there was very little side to side shaft play and no in and out shaft play it doesn't sound like the fins are rubbing either. I can't figure it out. Any body have any ideas?

I think I have a tps problem as anything above 35% throttle feels like the car is is way out its rev range even tho it's only at like 4500rpm but if I stay at 35% it pulls as if I was at 80 percent it's weird.
Title: Re: Project: Black Widow

something with the way the ecu perceives load. the TPS, rev, maf, i'm not sure what else. the fsm covers it in the ef&ec section i think
Title: Re: Project: Black Widow
Post by: sideways_s12 on 06:49:57 PM / 10-Feb-14
I don't have the fsm for the det tho... also its intermittent sometimes (like on the way to work today) it runs awesome then I get this spell of it hesitating and and break-up along with sputtering at certain throttle positions. I do notice it seems to do it more when its cold out I even let the car warm up but it takes forever to warm up I mean sometimes longer than 30 mins and it's not even that cold out.

Went to tune with nistune and mid way through the laptop died so I need to set up another time to go there and get it done went back to the stock ecu and safc for now until I can set up another time to get down there and get it done right. Also my battery took a shit on me like just straight told me and my car to go fuck our couch. I've never had this happen the battery had absolutely no juice in it whatsoever and it was abrupt like I was just driving seconds before pulled in a parking spot and it died from being rich at idle all the lights and everything were still on. I turned the key to start it so I could move more into the parking space and I hear a pop like a fuse let go. I checked them all and they were all fine. So I got some jumper cables and hooked them to the battery then touched the other ends together and nothing not even so much as a flicker lol. Tha's when I knew the battery was dead luckily we were at walmart. So i just went to the back and got a battery even tho there automotive section was closed and they tried ( very poorly I might add) to boarded up the Batteries lol so I just removed the boards and found the battery I needed grabbed it and left lol  just paid for it at the front.

I did notice the other was fucked worse than I had thought. The new battery made everything smoother and I'm guessing because everything is getting the correct voltage now. My headlights are brighter the interior light is brighter my dash lights are brighter lol it's weird. I just chocked it up to the car being old lol turns out the battery was shit. Well atleast thats taken care of. gotta fix the leak coming from my oil drain hose on the turbo and she will be solid then I can tune her and take her to the dyno to see what power I'm making on stick boost!

Woot! Nistune installed and tuned on stock injectors and 5psi I can now rev all the way to 7k no problem  it's a beautiful thing and the car is pretty quick on 5psi the power band is linear doesnt feel spikey like normal boosted cars but thats probably due to the cams it has nice bottomend an awesome topend I hope I have time to upgrade injectors and up the boost. My butt dyno tells me im ar ound 200hp. I would like to dyno the car butI have to find time as the shop with the dyno only works stripper hours lol so we'll see. So far I am happy!

Woot fixed oil leak!

Post by: sideways_s12 on 08:07:40 PM / 06-Apr-14
Changed oil and filter today along with fuel filter seems to be a little smoother with the new fuel filter also doesn't randomly go rich as much and the idle after decel seems to be a little better as well... Weds I'll probably put the boost controller on and see where I'm at...

I can't f**king win! I swapped springs to a 12psi spring and my wideband gauge took a s*** on me. My afrs were good before it went out when I first swapped the spring I went for a run to see where the boost was at and to see where my afrs were at they basically didn't move from when it was 5psi wot is 10 and it stayed in the normal range while cruising. I pulled into my driveway and wanted to see why my parking lights didn't work. I turned the car on and the wideband turned on like normal turned the car off d!ck with some wires that have nothing to do with where the wideband was hooked up turned to car back on to see if i fixed it and noticed the my wideband wasn't on so stopped messing with the other stuff and tried to figure out what was wrong with the wideband. I hooked it up to where I know there is power and the gauge still didn't come on. The wire harness for the wideband is fine so it has to be the gauge, I'm assuming...

I have issues with my AEM but its the two connections on the rear of guage...they get loose and the slightest wire tug and its over, remove guage from pod and press those clip harness back in place...otherwise its been an excellent guage...I never hit boost without one.

Yeah I fixed the issues turned out it wasn't getting power for whatever reason the wires it was hooked up to lost power after a fuse blew I replaced the fuse but still no power to those wires So I just found a different source should be good now!

Welp the dyno never happened because I was sick and got into a fucking accident! hood got bent driver side fender mangled grill filler piece on driver side mangled, marker light smashed and bumper pushed down. Fortunately the bumper support is ok and it lost a couple of bolts so instead of having it drag I just removed it. I swapped to my turbo hood, and I pulled the fender out as much as I could. So it doesn't look too bad.

It's all good it could of been worse. Although I thought the world ended when it happened. I'm still a lil pissed about it but all I can do is try to make it whole again!

It's all good apparently the clutch was just hot. I drove it today with no issue I do think I need to retune I'm getting some sputtering at wot and when I try to launch. But if I ease on it it accelerates fine!
Title: Re: Project: Black Widow
Post by: 8SixS12 on 08:42:00 AM / 07-Jun-14
Yeah it does sound like a tuning issue. How do AFRs look while at WOT?
Title: Re: Project: Black Widow
Post by: sideways_s12 on 08:47:37 PM / 07-Jun-14
10.0 but thats what is was when I was at 5psi and it ran fine. I did figure out the problem I did a boost leak test and I had/have a a bunch of boost leaks fixed most of them but I have one major one I am fixing today while at work My tb is leaking and the shaft *pause The PO was an idiot and thought it to be good idea to change the throttle wheel thats attached to the shaft *pause so I have probably always had this problem but I think it just got worse recently. Soon as I swap the tb I'm going to do another boost leak test and see if that fixes it!

Welp I swapped my tb and the idle afrs are better but it still sputters at anything over 3/4 throttle so I'm going to do another boost leak test a retune!

Yeah that's what I was going to do but the more I think about it the more I think I need to regap the plugs and also may have a maf issue as well.... Actually I know I have a maf issue just not sure if it's wiring to the plug or the maf itself.
Title: Re: Project: Black Widow
Post by: sideways_s12 on 11:30:06 PM / 12-Jul-14
Haven't done much to the car have a maf issue but nothing serious to where the car can't be driven. Thinking of selling all of my stuff so I can get a bike (motorcycle) till we leave.

one side of me is saying NO you have to keep it going but the realistic side knows the best thing to do is cut losses. Part out the black car since someone will want the engine and sell the S12s as shells. You have so many parts you just gotta go thru and get pics of stuff and list it all. Ebay would be useful in this situation. Just gotta set your prices low so they sell quick. Dont take any cars or car parts with you. Buy something when you get there. way cheaper that way and way less headache. Good luck too.

Well I'd like to sell everything together Just to get rid of it all at once Gary may buy it all but we'll see I just don't want to have to deal with shipping and all that nonsense. But again we'll see when the time comes. I kinda want to take the motorset with me for when I do find an s12. Apparently they are harder to find over there than over here. But Japan is roughly 12 hours away so there's always that.

Oh I'm definitely getting a skyline that for sure is going to be my first car when I get over there I'm not buying any other car until I get a skyline 32 33 or 34 Then that way I can take my time finding an s12 and it'll be my project as my skyline will be my daily. But since there is an abundance of skylines over there the s12 I get will have an rb powerplant. Don't get me wrong I love the CA but why CA when you can RB? lol

Woot the car is alive again I had a no spark no fuel issue at the same time (Awesomesauce) Turns out the wire I had going to my relay box wasn't getting power, because the power wire on the alt broke ( More awesomeness) so I found the broken wire and fixed it Now all is well also in the midst of that I fixed my WOT issue ( no clue to why i had an issue but whatevs) I could only go to 3/4 throttle anything above that would sputter and hesitate and felt like something was holding it back. But not any more I hit 12 psi like a champ! So now comes dyno time when I catch up on some bills!

So had a fuel issue problem  turns out the power wire in the tank came out of the connector it was in. I have since fixed it and the pump is good to go. Going to get my exhaust put on soon as I'm tired of attracting unwanted attention. Especially after being arrested. Lol. Also going to retune for more boost 12 is fun but I want 18 psi

Little update if anyone.cares full exhaust is.on and boost is up to 16 psi needs a few  things like a tune etc. In other news she has been sold to wanderingraven along with my other car and all my s12 extras barring a few things I want to keep for my next s12. When I get to the UK I will be picking up a skyline. Then I will be on the hunt for another s12 so ill still be around I love the s12 to much to not have another.....

Cool man, let me know I just gotta remove the exhaust not sure how you was able to get the exhaust installed as 1 whole piece. I'll roll it to the RV parking after that and cover it with a tarp ready for pick up when you are ready.  Take your time tho, it's not going anywhere nor changing my mind this time.
