Title: things I'm doing to my 86 200sx
Post by: vern_k on 07:50:41 PM / 24-Jun-14
So after my S110 got burned up I was like well I guess I can still do my project but not the way I really wanted to..... then this came to me.......

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20140607_173113.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20140607_173113.jpg.html)

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20140607_173144.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20140607_173144.jpg.html)

with just a few issues, like not having drivers door window, rewired headlight switch, cat removed and a cherry bomb welded in it's place, which I didn't mind for the price I paid and since I have always missed my 84 S12 I once had that had been distroyed by a tweeker (aka meth head)......
Post Merge
well made a run to a junkyard 3 hours away to pick up a window and have a look at what other parts I can come up on, when I got there the window is a bronze tint but I took it anyway, I can always change it if I come across a blue tint someday. Also got a headlight switch just incase the one that should be in the mail to me was wrong or something so took care of this

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20140616_123233-1.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20140616_123233-1.jpg.html)

switch in and wiring all fixed up

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20140622_194325.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20140622_194325.jpg.html)

still need to go though and see why headlights aren't going down.....

for some reason they had cut the trim for the radio which I was able to get also so the one you see in the back ground is still the old one, which had the pull style switch for the head lights that had a wire coming right off the battery with no fuse......

then started working on

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20140622_184344.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20140622_184344.jpg.html)

which just needs a little buffing

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20140622_151107.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20140622_151107.jpg.html)

over all the $120 I spent at the junkyard and drive didn't turn out that bad, it's been awhile since I had my maxima on a road trip anyway.....

also got latchs for rear windows since one of mine is broke and vents for top of the door panels since one of was missing and panel kinda beat up

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20140615_173859.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20140615_173859.jpg.html)

I have fixed that already but need to grab some pixs, just need to get some glue to fix where I had to pull the vinyl back to fix the boken plastic around the vent....

love those wheels, 15in?

14in I think but will have to double check on that, they are kinda beat up and I will be going to 16in so they will be for sale sooner or later (hoping on sooner)

Well as for a update, other then she has been sitting in the drive way getting cobwebs, I have the engine paid off and should be getting shipped out this week or next,  new front sub frame at home getting ready to be cleaned up and some new paint. Hoping to go junkyard shopping in the next few weeks to get some parts that I need......

did get some of the small things fixed up like the one vent that was broken, and drivers door panel back in, just need to redo the arm rest part of it yet.

did pick up a 5th job working for the guy that lets me use his shop to work on my car and any side car work I do for my friends like the clutch job I did on a 95 200sx (it says 200sx on the back but says sentra under the hood and wasn't even a SR) and where my build is going to take place, text message went something like this...

"You want to work for me in your spare time?"

"Sure, let me know when you need something done and I'll see if I can sneak it in between my other 4 jobs"

well since I haven't been here in forever, here is a little update. Well motor finely got here but still waiting on ecu and wiring harness and other parts, have to say Fever Racing has totally let me down, was hoping to have this thing on the road to go to my daughters graduation but since they have burned up all my slow time at work waiting over 4 months to get my parts I will not be able to get it put together in time..... in short don't buy from Fever Racing unless you get the parts first then pay them......

but other then that I have gotten a few other parts I needed picked up lately, got the steering wheel I wanted from all hours auto salvage in nampa, idaho. was a really nice place to deal with, it was listed on parts finder, I called and was told they would have to go check to see if it was still there and call me back (i'm like ok maybe I'll call back as see if you checked in a few days) well a few min later I get a text with a pix of it, I was a bit impressed.

Got a really nice score on ebay, rear diff was listed for $50 plus $50 for shipping with no pixs, I took the risk figuring even if it's a open and not complete it still isn't that bad of deal if I have to find stub shafts or something so I bought it, turns out not only is it complete but is also a Vlsd.......

also picked up some of the parts I needed from the upullit, along with a score on mud flaps.....

So now the biggest hold up is Fever Racing getting my parts, not only have they put me into the spot of not having my car ready for a important date, and making me wait though my slow season where it wouldn't have been a big deal to take a week off and work on it for 18 hours a day and get her put together but have pushed it to the point so now even if I got the parts tomorrow I couldn't touch them till maybe this weekend if I didn't have to much other work to get done, but the shop is also moving soon so might have to wait till that happens so my car doesn't have to be moved while it's all in parts trying to get put back together........

so yes this project is still in the works, just being held up by Fever Racing getting my parts that they had "in the warehouse ready to go" when I started paying on them.....

I wish I had the space to do that mine when I had it! Nice work How har was that to do and what did you use to pick up the chassis?
Title: Re: things I'm doing to my 86 200sx
Post by: vern_k on 03:59:22 PM / 15-Oct-15
It isn't hard at all, since I was pulling the whole drivetrain I decided it would be a lot faster to do it that way...... the car is on a lift, once you get the engine wiring harness free there are just a couple wires for the alt and oil sending unit and such things then just unbolt the sub frames tranny mount and rear diff and struts and shocks and lift, I'm on a lift so it was just a matter of having everything unbolted and disconnected then push the button to go up. The only thing I forgot about was pulling the rear diff support off the studs, but that wasn't a big issue (always go up a bit, look make sure nothing is hanging up) so just had to go down a bit pull it off then go up again. Can't say I would try it without a lift unless you have a way to hold the body up high enough and have enough jacks and such to let the drive train down.....

Yo, Vern, what's going on here? Is that how you Aussies do sleepy eye mods? Just throw some fat cat on it and let gravity do the rest?

Anyhoot, what's REALLY going on here? Are you going AWD? I'm not familiar with that V6 block and your tranny is a little lumpy.

Looking forward to your next update.

Nice! Boost all the VQs lol

that is the plan in the long run, but right now just going back and forth on building the bottom end to take any thing I can throw at it later or just using the factory parts I have and keeping it limited to what they will take.

Post by: sideways_s12 on 12:19:53 PM / 19-Nov-15
You already have it apart you might as well overbuild it that way if you decide your not making enough or you want more, you'll have room to grow...
Title: Re: things I'm doing to my 86 200sx
Post by: vern_k on 01:43:54 PM / 19-Nov-15
that is kinda the plan but since I'm putting a 3.0 crank in, rods have to be custom made at about $250 each, the factorys will hold to about 500 hp and 8k, but yea for like $2k I could have a bullet proof bottom end. So haven't decided if I will go that far but am leaning towards doing it then adding top end stuff later if I don't have the funds to get cams, springs and Ti retainers before getting the rest put together, need to get the money saved up to do the rear end first before I even start on getting the engine put back together.....

well last of the major fab work then time to get on the engine build and finish welding stuff up then clean up and paint, still have a few things to get yet, like trailing arm kit, fuel rails and system. Then there is the fun of going though the wiring and getting stuff like headlights working right and getting the projectors that I picked up from a BMW at the junkyard mounted in. A long way to go yet but chipping away at it

not to long, like a hour and half, I think since it gets baked during the summer it was already brittle and then I did it when it was cold so it chipped right out.

I'm just here for the cat pics haha. Really though nice progress so far. Should be awesome when you get it all finished up. VQ s12 should be pretty sweet. Can't believe you wanna turbo that thing down the road, I'd be more then satisifed with the stock VQ horsepower. Then again I just got a stock ka-de in my s12 so....yeah  :tongue2:

Are you going to make these as a production or just for yourself because I would be interested in buying these if it fixes the camber issue....

there are two different types, you can also widen the track with them, I widened mine by 10mm on each side

New engine is at the shop as of Sat, I got the intake pulled off, going to have to work on a oval to round port adapter since I want to use the pathfinder intake and since the fuel rail is a return style it would solve that issue, and being a variable could get some nice low end along with decent high end, then also have the swirl valves to stabilize idle....

Pathy intake doesnt fit under the hood. You probably know that but it is worth pointing out just in case you didnt know. Also, VG33 heads are a direct bolt on and the ports match the pathy intake. VG30 cams are taller so that could solve some of your issues if i understand them correctly.

I'm VQ not VG and way past the point of what fits "under the hood"

yea the 350z intake sits way high already, but I think the pathfinder is shorter then the 350z, haven't had a chance to set them side by side yet..... but still have to come up with a adapter to go from the oval port LIM to the round port heads....

Recto-cranial extraction performed (that was the popping sound you heard).  I know both of these things.  Forgot which build thread this was.  Pay no attention to the man behind the keyboard.

How dramatic is the oval-to-round difference, which is larger and how much wiggle room do you have for the thickness of the adapter?  In the end ANYTHING that offers a slope/taper is going to be better than mating the flat surfaces together.

well the bottom and injector port line up decent with enough on the LIM to grind away around the injector, it's the sides that are the issue, I haven't had a chance to take for sure measurements but want to say there is a good 1/4 in on both sides that need to be dealt with, with not enough material on the head to be ported to match with out going super thin. Not sure how I'm going to handle it yet, thinking about having it filled in with weld then port matching, or might just make some adapters, there is a chance that it will be done on a CNC with my friend, he has offered to scan parts and help me come up with what needs to be done then make parts on his CNC, but he is a busy man so will see if he fits that day project in. as far as thickness I'm thinking around  1/4 in should be a decent taper or might go thinner with the taper going up into the LIM. I'm busy with work for the next couple weeks so won't get on it for a bit yet and since the engine build is going to be on the tail end of the project I have a bunch of other stuff to deal with first, like getting the rest of the welding finished up on the front sub frame (which I might change up once I see how the pathfinder mounts fit) and tranny mounts and trailer hitch mounted, then foaming the frame and resealing where it needs it and such..... but will be chipping away at this issue as I go.

. . . there is a good 1/4 in on both sides that need to be dealt with, with not enough material on the head to be ported to match. . .

If I understand this right you think you can put about 1/4" of material between the head and LIM and still have he ports line up properly?  If so your easiest bet is to just use some 1/4" plate and have round-to-oval ports machined into them.  Shouldn't be too difficult in any modern CAD program.  Another more complex option that would smooth out the airflow is to make sort of horn shaped tapered tabs that extend back into the round LIM runners.  Measuring and drawing those out would be more of a challenge.  It may be easier to partially fill those runners with weld and grind them back out to oval.  Either way it would be the most effective way of changing the shape while minimizing the turbulence inside the runner.  I look forward to seeing what you come up with!

I think you have the round and oval mixed up, the LIM is oval and the head is round, but yea something like that, I have to get everything set up (heads on block) so I can play around with it to see if the 1/4 plate is going to mess with the alignment to much and see if I want to deal with pushing the injectors back that far, one of the reasons I'm thinking about doing the tab idea since I can have it machined then grind the LIM to match the tabs on the sides and grind out around the injector to match the top side of the round port on the  head (lots of material there), but if I do end up just doing the plate and since the LIM just drops down parallel on the LIM studs it shouldn't be to much of a issue to get them to line up with a taper on the sides going into the head and with the port matching around the injector it would just be the sides. I do like the idea of the weld fill on the sides then port matching but need to talk to my welding guy and see what he thinks since that much fill would be a lot of heat to deal with and welding up into the ports might be more then he wants to deal with.

What I might do just to see is set up the heads on the block use something to space the LIM and tape off the ports and outside of the ports and pour some expanding foam (2 part stuff) so it makes the spacer with foam then 3d scan that clean it up in CAD and then throw it in the CNC, but since I don't want to move the injectors back to much I want to go for a thinner spacer that goes up into the LIM for the taper or welding, or even a little of both a spacer that welds on up into the LIM, although it would be nice to come up with something that would be sellable for other people that want to use a pathfinder intake on a VQ35 or a 350z intake on a VQ30 and other such mods that it would work with.....

So smaller intake runners into larger ports in the head.  I will be watching this with great fascination to see how well it turns out.  Being a very short distance it may not make much difference but I have always stayed away from small to large volume ducts.  The loss of velocity is close to #1 on my list of things to avoid at almost any cost.  Then again, that short a distance and the fact that it is right at the back of the valve where flow will have to temporarily stop and wait for the valve to open again it may make little difference.  If you don't try it in both configurations you would never know anyway so maybe i am just rambling.  It sounds like you already have a good idea of your possibilities, limitations and what your resources are.  Cant wait to see more.

it's not so much as the volume that the change it's the shape, and that is were one of the issues lays. The oval ports are more closed around the injector not a super big deal since there is material there that can be taken away. they match up center bottom but not enough material going to the sides on the head ports. I could just use the 350z LIM but then that gets rid of the swirl valve which then might cause the issue you speak of at low rpm lack of velocity since the 350 LIM is long and decent size, more then likely going to be a 3.2L not  3.5L so lose of volume there also. Leaning towards the spacer but don't want to make it push the injector back to far.

Ouch.  So with the round ports and oval runners having the same cross sectional volume you will be forced to both grind from some spots and add material to others in order to avoid a flow restriction.  Any sort of smoothed angles would help but I'm not sure how much in that short of a distance, particularly where the air temporarily stops to wait for the valve to open.  I have had a great deal of success in the past when maintaining volume while changing duct shape but it has always been over a much greater distance to avoid turbulence.  The airbox in this picture from one of my old posts is a good example.
http://club-s12.org/retro4/index.php?topic=33597.msg349240#msg349240

On the far side (where you can't see) a 3.5" round duct enters a tapered square cone that gradually flattens out into the rectangle at the top of the engine.  After crossing it squares back out into that complex angled box that acts as a funnel into the 3" supercharger inlet.  After dedicating a few days to measuring, cutting, bending, riveting, and starting over we came up with that design which at all points that funnel-to-box-to-funnel has the same volume as the duct at either end.  The flat box was required to fit under the upper cowling of the aircraft.  We did full power tests on the ground using smooth aluminum tubing and found no appreciable difference in velocity entering the supercharger or pressure exiting it.  Unorthodox but it was and continues to be highly effective.

Ideally you would test with both complete UIM/LIM combinations, then retest again with both of your hybrid options to tell what the difference is.  Testing like that is always time and cost prohibitive though even if you already have the sensors and testing equipment.  Not to mention really fucking lame compared to spending time driving.  You might also use the intake side head gaskets as templates to create two plates and the LIM-to-UIM gasket to create a third.  Then you could use tubing to link them together creating your own LIM.  It would be time consuming and costly (and you certainly have other items on your list to spend time on) but it would solve all of those issues.  Tricky issue anyway you go.  Still looking forward to all the updates between now and then whichever way you go.

so I think welding is going to be out since it will make a nasty little ramp, I should be able to make a spacer that has a better transition, it will be something I will be working on the side while getting the rest of the engine built and since I don't even have the new block tore down yet it will be a bit before this part is needed.......

last add on, just need to weld some mounting plates in and hit the spare tire well with a hammer a couple times and then the foaming and parts painting starts then get to start putting it all back together

tacked up, have some more bracing to put on the bottom side and box in the tops and such

This is a nice build, I can't wait till I see the final product. Also curious if the vq motor mounts will mount to the vg motor mounts? it seems that you had to seriously raised the bar just to get to the motor itself?

Title: Re: things I'm doing to my 86 200sx
Post by: vern_k on 12:27:17 PM / 07-Jun-16
thanks, I'm not sure if the motor mounts will be a direct fit, but I think no, irrc the VG are centered on the block, the VQ are offset the right side is a little forward, want to say about a inch, but with the pathfinder brackets you might have enough room to make it work since I'm sure they would be to short for just a bolt in type thing but if you make a bracket from the cross member coming out to meet the mount, it might make it a better option, although the mount to bracket bolt is the same you could use the pathfinder brackets with any of the aftermarket solid mounts and just make brackets for the cross member.

Yea the engine will never come out the top on this, mainly due to the front diff, there isn't enough room to take it off the engine in the car and it won't go past the sub frame, I had to take the bracket off to get the sub frame off the engine since the mount wouldn't let it drop down enough to get the bolt pass the bracket, but that might have changed since I got them all welded up and trimmed down, but not counting on it. I will have to check and see what the min amount I will have to lift the body to get the engine out so if I ever have to do major work without a lift, I will know how many cement blocks I have to stack under the jack stands. I will be setting it up so that dropping the engine isn't a super big pain just a matter of getting the body high enough to slide the engine out from under it....

well not a whole bunch done this weekend but a couple small things taken care of

bumper back on

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20160612_185728.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20160612_185728.jpg.html)

worked out where I need to cut for the shifter, just need to do a tiny bit of trimming on the back side.....
 (http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20160612_183631.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20160612_183631.jpg.html)

time to mix and match parts to see what is going to work the best

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20160612_163652.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20160612_163652.jpg.html)

looks like I will be going with the S12 inner tie rods and more then likely have to do custom outers to keep from having odd angles

been really busy with work lately but managed to make it to the shop to get something done on her yesterday. I got most of the exposed metal covered still have a little on the frame rails where the leaky brake master cylinder caused paint loss. Brake line holders back on so that should be it for welding so I can foam the frame rails next time I have a chance to make it to the shop hoping that my foam is still good, will have to do a test mix to make sure.....

didn't get a whole bunch done this weekend just some bolt hole cleaning and getting wiring back to where it belongs

Control arms came, had the chance to mock them up and see what else I will need to change

way to much low
(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20160911_193546.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20160911_193546.jpg.html)

I have to get a hold of BC and see how far I can run them out safely, this is with ten turns in. I think I will have to make some spacers for tension rod brackets to get rid of the angle of the tension rod a bit

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20160912_190949.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20160912_190949.jpg.html)

you say daily driver but this smells like race car

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20160912_191319.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20160912_191319.jpg.html)

also test fitted my oval to round port adapter plates

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20160912_154124.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20160912_154124.jpg.html)

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20160912_191609.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20160912_191609.jpg.html)

you know he is right this does smell on the race car side but I guess it could pass for daily racer

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20160912_191414.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20160912_191414.jpg.html)

still will need to louver the hood a bit

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20160912_191740.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20160912_191740.jpg.html)

OH MAN BUBBLE WRAP

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20160911_195132.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20160911_195132.jpg.html)

if you can get a strip of paper between it, it's a good fit right?

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20160912_191457.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20160912_191457.jpg.html)

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20160912_192128.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20160912_192128.jpg.html)

so will have to make tension rod brackets spacers, mounts for steering rack, and maybe a adapter plate for TB

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20160912_192455.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20160912_192455.jpg.html)

didn't get a whole lot done last weekend just mainly some test fitting and drop the engine back out to pull the heads off to take them into the machine shop for guides and seat touch ups which I dropped them off on Monday...

test fitting my cheep ebay headers which I won't mind chopping up a little to make them fit better

think I will have them modified

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/Mobile%20Uploads/20161001_144204.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20161001_144204.jpg.html)

the 350z/G35 ones fit, but I dropped them and cracked the front edge when I was moving stuff around when the new racks went up, and I don't want to replace them since it would be less to have the pathfinders modified and they will be better I think

would still have to modify the 350Z/G35 ones just not as much

started making the spacer I need for my steering rack mounts hope to get that done this week so I can start making the brackets to mount it to the front sub frame and get that all set up and get it sand blasted and painted along with tension rod brackets

well put bearings and hubs in the knuckles this weekend and started working out final set up for the front (geometry pros step in please)

one big issue is going to be tie rods I haven't been able to find anything that comes close to the bend I will need to make this work so more then likely will have to make something

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20161016_175547.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20161016_175547.jpg.html)

yep you should have remembered you FSM so you would know what you can trim out of that wiring and what you have to move

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20161016_171501.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20161016_171501.jpg.html)

I'm not that stoned I can still walk this

still have some angle issues to work out and haven't made the rack mount yet but getting closer to final set up....

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20161016_175701.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20161016_175701.jpg.html)

So the drawer that had the nip in it was left open so guess who has been stoned for the last couple weeks

ever been so high for so long you just sit on a tranny

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20161016_174051.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20161016_174051.jpg.html)

Think I will be spacing tension rod brackets down about 1 inch, to get rid of the downward angle on them, then work out where I need to mount the rack to get keep from getting super funky Ackermann, which looking at the factory parts the S12 the rack is mounted slightly in front of the steering arms and on the Maxima it is mounted slightly behind but with what I have played with so far I might be able just to go right in line and still get enough to help pull the front end around corners with out doing a sudden dive in but will need to get the rack mounted and some tie rods that don't max out just from the upward angle they have to be at. Think I'm going to make rack mounts adjustable so that it can be tuned a bit.

So thought I would make a update since it's been a while.....

looks like I might switch the front knuckles that I'm going to use, after many hours of looking at ebay/google pixs, I think I have found some that will be a better fit, so more on that coming when I have a chance to go to u pull it and see what I can find.....

the diff bearing going in my Maxima has set me back a bit, I wasn't able to find a tranny so I pick up a pathfinder so I could stop driving the Maxima hopefully before chewing up the tranny past the point of rebuild. On top of that I will be moving to a new house in the mountains tomorrow, the pathfinder is going to kill in gas on the longer drive to work but will be nice for dealing with the snow.

I have had to do a few things like CV shafts and need to do rear and front mains, suspension bushing, but she runs and drives

Need a roommate/apprentice/joint roller?

well don't really want to share my bathroom, house is only a 3 bed 2.5 bath and the guy who owns the house and his GF have the master bed/bath. Don't do enough car work or know enough for a apprentice and you can't afford to apprentice under me for my main job. Don't have enough to roll joints due to my car habit.

well got another car, my friend had this one sitting around throwing a EGR code that he didn't have time and such to track down and didn't have use for the car anyway so passed it off to me, well with a much better scanner and a day to track it down found that the wires in the plug had broken so I have "little g" to drive now

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20170122_175454.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20170122_175454.jpg.html)

now hopefully I will be able to get back on the 200 now, I did manage to start welding up the rack mounts on Sat before we had to move cars around in the shop to get a truck ready for paint and I didn't want to be welding and grinding around a paint prepped truck so called it a day..... as soon as I have a chance I'm going to run to upullit and get the steering knuckles and start getting the front end together.

Have a couple things on the little g to fix yet but nothing that will take long so I should have some progress on Sally (200sx) soonish, have a bunch of work stuff coming up but have a few days here and there. I do know now that a G20 front bumper cover will work on a S12 with a little modification.....

yea there has been 3 WD21s taken in the area in the last couple months, according to the FB page.... yea more then likely if they do get busted they will be back in the alleys soon since the court system isn't doing anything about these people other the letting them off super easy...

made it to upullit on Sat for my new knuckles
(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20170204_165854.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20170204_165854.jpg.html)

I will have some options to decide when it comes to hubs and bearings.... The bearings for the Altima knuckles are bigger (don't have my notes with me at the moment) along with the hubs being 5 lug so I will have to
1. drill the hub for 4 lug
2. use bearings from a G20/99 Altima and several other things up to 2000......

drilling more then likely would be the simplest, I would have to use the outer CV shafts from the Altima, which I have now due to not being able to get them off in the yard (not a single one had the engine in couldn't get leverage) since the bearings are sealed with just dust shields, down side, could have balance issues at high speeds due to the extra holes in the hub.

the bearing with the larger O.D. and smaller I.D. which has a few things that could be a pain, they use grease seals and are thinner by a few mm, which I can make a spacer to make up the difference between the bearing and snap ring which then I would have to find a way for the grease seal to go in. Then there is which way to off set the bearing or if it would need to be centered for the hub to sit right. Now if it would need to be centered I might be able to use the smaller seals from the 2nd gen Maxima and make the spacer hold the seal, which is the way I think it would work.

one other issue that switching knuckles has caused is that the bolt spacing on the bottom of the coil overs that clamp on the knuckles is off and the bolts themselves are bigger, which is a simple fix since I can maybe just buy the new parts I need from BC, but depending on price I might just enlarge the holes off to the side I need to make up the spacing difference......

found out that both my head light motors work, so thats a score just need to make some linkages for them still going back and forth on how I'm going to make them.... fully functional sleepy eyes would be cool but I already have enough to do with out having to make complicated parts....

need to work out what to do with the wiring, the two small wires go to the ETS-PRO but the other two are the pressure switch to kick the pump on via relay, from what I can tell by what little I can find online I have one as a ground and one to ground the relay, with a switched power wire to control the power wire for the pump...... but it's something I want to for sure on since I don't want to fry anything on this cuz it's parts that are a bit hard to come by here.....

Got some parts in last week.

just one more part for this stuff to get, but just getting a coupler to make sure I get the right size for the rack, this one (part in the bag) is to big so have the other one that it might be the right one on the way and once that gets here, if it is the right one I will return them and get the part I really need....
(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20170324_163203.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20170324_163203.jpg.html)

made the part I needed for the steering shaft to be welded in

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20170327_161250.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20170327_161250.jpg.html)

new lower mounts for the coil overs came also
(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20170325_201548.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20170325_201548.jpg.html)

they are taller which is fine since I was kinda bummed with the S13 that I wouldn't have been able to go 4X4 stance at all

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20170325_211310.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20170325_211310.jpg.html)

just need to make my tension rod bracket spacers to take care of the angle on the tension rod other then that, it's starting to look not to bad of angles
(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20170325_211359.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20170325_211359.jpg.html)

Also got started on this, have them all assigned to their seat, have some 400 grit on the way so when that gets here have another night of fire starting

 (http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20170326_195353.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20170326_195353.jpg.html)

pix before I do the last row

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20170327_204338.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20170327_204338.jpg.html)

have some clean up to do from when the valve guides were done and the 400 grit on the seats then a run though the dish washer and put them together so I can figure out what buckets I need to order and the heads will be ready.

Found the right spline for my steering rack so now have to send back the couplers and order the U joint I need for that then I should have all the parts for finishing up the steering other then tie rod ends which I want to work out how much of a spacer I can run on the inner tie rods to get a bit more angle if my rack will allow them, and get the knuckles so I can see how long they need to be.

for hubs I modified some rear S13s

I just need to take a little more off the inside on the back side just to be sure it's not hitting on the CV shaft before the bearing, it wasn't but close so just to be on the safe side..... Then there is a matter of brake rotors which I am looking into a few options....

also took care of this issue on lil G this weekend

took on my intake this weekend just some mild port matching and clean up
(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20170423_155438.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20170423_155438.jpg.html)

I did open this up a little on the back side

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20170424_000210.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20170424_000210.jpg.html)

just a little ledge to get rid of

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20170424_143304.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20170424_143304.jpg.html)

just need to drill and tap holes for throttle body and match that up and clean out runners and thats all set other then getting gaskets and matching those up (http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20170424_192800.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20170424_192800.jpg.html)

also have one of my adapter plates (oval to round port) all set but called it a night while the glue was setting that I used to glue the round port NWP spacer to adapter plate to lower intake so I can keep them all together in place while I finish porting so should have those down this week and then get the heads ran though the dish washer and start assembling them. Hope to get me credit bills paid down and start ordering lower end parts soon.

Can't wait to see how your oval to round plates look when mated to the intake and head.

Again . . . no commentary from the cats?  You need to keep the pussy happy man or it will go away!

I'll grab some pixs when I get the lower all done..... haven't been around the kittys since they are at the car shop and this stuff is done at my house..... but they will be back soon, just need to get this stuff taken care of so when I get to the point of making her turn and stop, I have almost everything ready to make her go....

well finished off my adapter plates, so those are all ready and just have clean up and assembly on the rest of the intake. Should be start getting heads assembled soon also. Ordered last of the parts I need for steering shaft so next time I get to the car shop I will be putting that together.

Put the steering wheel I'm going to use put in

welded up the lower steering shaft, the spline stub is welded into the plug I made then pressed in and welded.

road block

had to make a bearing holder

have some clean up and trimming yet, but think I still have room for exhaust to squeeze though with some heat shielding

What do you mean you forgot the nip

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20170619_201935.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20170619_201935.jpg.html)

started putting some parts back on to get them off the shelf, I have a rebuild kit and ceramic pads for the calipers, might even clean them up really well and paint them when I rebuild them. I do need to get new bushings for the torsion bar

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20170619_202130.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20170619_202130.jpg.html)

did my tension rod bracket spacers, will have to drill and tap some holes in them for bracing but not sure how I'm going to do it for sure yet have a couple ideas

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20170619_201419.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20170619_201419.jpg.html)

"just a few more parts and the box is ours"

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20170619_200324.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20170619_200324.jpg.html)

picked up my hose for the center diff clutch last week, think I'm going to use the carrier bearing stud for a holding bracket

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20170619_200020.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20170619_200020.jpg.html)

then open up the extra slot a little and use the E-brake bracket

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20170619_200028.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20170619_200028.jpg.html)

up along with the fuel lines

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20170619_200216.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20170619_200216.jpg.html)

and in to the pump

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20170619_200223.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20170619_200223.jpg.html)

"so what about that nip"
(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20170619_200258.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20170619_200258.jpg.html)

so ran into a issue, which I should have brought up when I picked the hose up, but had to get to work and thought I would just going in to pick it up since I had left the parts the week before, but I walked in and the guy started running around looking for the parts I left which the fitting for the transmission would be impossible to track down if he lost it, took him a few to find them and by the time he got it done I didn't think about the issue just needed to get to work and get the shop opened

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20170619_191225.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20170619_191225.jpg.html)

he mentioned about making this part (banjo to AN) 6 inches long and I said no it needs to be like 3 inches other wise it will hit the spare, well it's like 8 inches

 (http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20170619_195355.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20170619_195355.jpg.html)

so I need to take that back and have it redone, I wanted them to just make that part a hard line with the sensor bung but the did the banjo to An then a T for the sensor which is fine other then the one part being to long

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20170619_191238.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20170619_191238.jpg.html)

other then that just a couple more parts and front suspension will be complete, need to get lower ball joint pins and outer tie rods, think I'm going to end up using the ball joint pins from a GM since I think they are the closest to the Altima size have to call to make sure, then for outer tie rods think I will end up making the insert for drilling out and flipping it or if I can find a pin that will be big enough on the small side and a taper reamer..... but the geometry isn't to bad.

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20170619_201452.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20170619_201452.jpg.html)

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20170619_201452.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20170619_201452.jpg.html)

I will have to take a BFH to make a little more room here

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20170619_201829.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20170619_201829.jpg.html)

"don't forget the nip next time or else"

(http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m310/vernk/20170619_162513.jpg) (http://s107.photobucket.com/user/vernk/media/20170619_162513.jpg.html)

think I'm going to get my engine up on the stand and start getting it taken apart so I can start getting that all ready and use the heads to start working on the exhaust which is going to be a adventure, there are a couple tight spots where it needs to run although a side pipe has crossed my mind

thanks yea getting the steering shaft done was a huge step now if I could stop having set backs like the G20 blowing her head gasket and having to get a transmission for my Maxima so I have a car to get to work, it would go a bit faster. I wouldn't say the don't appreciate it, more like it's been up in the air for so long they haven't been able to give her any love and I keep forgetting the nip so they are a little upset with me, but they are still keeping the rodents away from my wires and interior.

yea noticed that will have to see what I can do about it, might have to find another host, since it seems they are going to try and hold my pix hostage unless I give them money, I thought they were a 3rd party host and that was the whole point...... anyways I will see what I can do to get them back, I still have all the pixs on my hard drives so they are not gone forever......

So if I am reading/understanding correctly, Photobucket now wants $400 if you want to link pics to forums? So everything we have ever done thru PB will no longer link unless we pay?

yep that would be the case, which really sucks since to find a new hosting site and re add all the pix would take forever and super pain in the ass, what I might end up doing is finding a new host then ad as many pixs (aka hours going though hard drives) and put them in a collection and post a link to that, at least they would be accessible then.

That ranks right up there with the ransom ware pirates that take machine hostage unless you pay. Some lawyer should take this one on. This will affect millions of people and countless forums will be significantly compromised

lucky you at least you don't have like 10+ years of pix in several forums that just went away, thats FUBAR.......
