Ok I am coming up with some Ideas. As you know I blew my ca18et head gasket and spun a rod bearing because I ran the damn thing to long before I pulled the head. Well whatter in the oil who would have guessd :P

Ok I am going to eventualy build this car as a project one way or another. The question is wich of the Nissan power plants should I use. Money is an issue but at the same time I am thinking more long term now than before. Here are my options

Also to those of you that have swaped the sr20det into a old school nissan s12  How hard was it? and how much did it cost you?? As well as what luck have you had with the other motors as well.

I think the CA18ET has tons of potential, and for the price of a CA18DET motorset, you can do a full rebuild (with upgrades) on the CA18ET.  That\'d be would do.  Oh wait, that is what I\'m doing.

seems like easyest way to swap a sr20det into the car would be to buy a fronyt clip, that way u have all the electronics for sure and everything.

have you considered VH45 or even VH41?

both have far greater potential, more power from the factory without turbo unreliability, less money and relatively straight forward to fit

VH41 is alot easier to fit than VH45

SR12det

To swap a redtop sr20det into a a 84 hatch i required the fallowing mods. Custom driveshaft $200, tranny mount modifyed free if u have a welder, incomplete engine $1900, clutch $600, charge pipping and custom ic $300, igniterchip $100 and 240 maf sensor free at the junkyard..hehe. Total $3100 for a basic install and running and some grey hair working bugs out.

bov ? xtra $
cone filter ? xtra $
3\'\' custom exhaust $300 with canistor
...........the sky is the limit with goodies for the sr!
oh and xtra money to swap it if u aint doing it urself.
(Not to bad when compared to many honda swaps or other swaps)
ex..type R engine is $5000 by itself! and doesnt compare to the sr pawer.

Foce Fed Performance in Langly offers redtop SR swaps for S13\'s starting at $5000, should be around the same price for the S12.  but they also throw in the microtech fuel management system(stand alone baby...) and dyno tuning with this.

Well the sr20 looks like more money that I want to get into. I would do the swap myself anyways. I just can\'t justify paying someone t do something I can do :) So it is either a rebuild or a ca18det depending on money and plans

the question you need to ask yourself is what kind of power do you want to be making...200+, 300+ 400+..... anything under the 300hp range the ca18et is plenty.... it would require alot less work anf $$ to build up the ca18et then doing al the de head and some kind of standalone..... heck with my setup i am capable of about a 12.9 in the 103-104mph trap.. i know my sig says a 13.3 but that was on a headgasket that went on the very next run....had comp #\'s of abot 105 in 2&3.. after i fixed the gasket i raced a srt-4 that runs 12.7@107mph and i only lost by half a car from 30mph to 115mph... so you can see that im easily in the high 12\'s with not alot of mods or $$ in my ca18et

Thats a good point bartc_j I am not even sure if i\'m going to rebuild the car at all right now. It all depends on wether or not I\'m moving. If I do I am going to try and look for the det just for fun. If not et and power will have to happen.
