It started this morning. It started with bad Idle, and some hesitation. On my way home from work.. When I was at a stop, then starting to move the more gas I gave it the more it wanted to die... I had to pump the throttle to keep it from dying.. Finaly get home, still doing it if I opened the throttle it wants to die. I had to floor it to get the rpms high enough for me to drive forward. It would come and go. Now its running fine.... Err Oh yea Im getting code 31 off of my z31 ECU... Think my ECU is dead? I hope I can make it to work tomorrow. I hate breaking down :(

Also on my way home from work. While I was on the freeway, doin 75mph.. I could feel the engine hesitate for a second. RPMS didnt change. I just could feel the lack of power for a moment...  PLease Help lol

Check your timing, The Noach\'s V6 did the same thing. But it ended up jumping time and messing everything up.

Or it could just be your ECU, but im pretty sure his was throwing the same code.

Well my timing is kinda f\'ed up. When I change the dist cap. I bumped the rotor so I know the initial timeing needs to be done.. I have set the timing with a timing light and it was running good for a week now this.. When I checked my timing today it was off but close to where I set it... Yea it sucks I give it gas and it boggs down... Also it comes and goes... I think im gonna set the inital timeing tomorrow, and redo with the timing light... Quick ? Whats the best way to loosen the dist. screw to adjust the timing. I can only get it at a angle, and Im kinda stripping it. Thx

Well I unhooked the battery so the ECU could reset. After I hooked it back up. I was getting code 31 and 23 Idle Switch... Then after a cpl of minutes I got code 44 all good?????? What the hell?

Oldschool I found the thread about noach\'s car. You guys described the same thing happing to mine... All the same symptoms, and same trouble codes.. So I guess ill take the day off work to set initial timeing and set it at specs.. Thx :) I also have the same upgrade as noach.. Z31 MAF/ECU. So Im hoping the timeing is the issue. The first time it did this (months ago) was after screwin up the position of the rotor in the dist. Thx for the help I let ya know how it goes..

Code 31 on the Z31 ECU is load signal. its something to do with the Air conditioning, which in my case, had been removed. Is yours still in place?

Its sounds like a timing issue. my SE is so freakin sensitive to even the slightest timing change. its rediculous.

ALSO, did you just install the Z31 ECU/MAF combo? i remember when i installed mine, it would hardly move at all. it was really bad. i put the 200sx unit back on, and no problems. I think ill go mess with it again sometime soon...

GOOD LUCK!!!

also, the dist. cap, when i changed mine (rotor as well) it ran like total crap. i didnt think that it should have done that, then again, ive heard bad things about the borg-warner stuff..

I\'d bet on the MAF being bad.  had these go out on my Zs and you get the horrible idle and almost dying and then finally in the upper RPMs is smooths out a bit, but still not great.

Ive had the Z31 ECU/maf for 6 months now the no probs till now.. My A/C dosn\'t work. Well it dosen\'t blow cold. It did at one time when we refilled the AC, but it ran hot after 3 weeks. I know my timing is kinda screwed. Im gonna fix it the best I can. Payday is Fri so this weekend Im gonna call up a mechanic to change the timing belt, and tune it up. Hopefuly it should be good after that.
