yeah. so my KA'd s12 blew up the hybrid tranny I was running. It was a mk2 CA20E manual box with a KA bellhousing on it. I broke a shift fork pretty violently at the last drift event, and big chunks were coming out the drain plug when I changed the oil. So I figured, why not try this s13 transmission I had in the garage on for size.

I used:
s13 KA manual tranny
front half of an s13 manual driveshaft (USDM only! JDM 180sx driveshaft didn't work, I tried this first)
stock s12 mount and crossmember and clutch slave cylinder

you also have to trim back about 2 inches of sheetmetal for the shifter, but honestly, it puts it in a WAYYYYYY better position than before (right within reach) and I can use any aftermarket s13 shifter now. And since I have no interior, I don't mind having an extra 2 inches cut out of the center console area.

but I just wanted to confirm that YES if you use the front half of an s13 driveshaft, you can run an s13 gearbox w/o any custom work or fancy driveshafts.

its sliding time!

i dont understand how you used the stock s12 mount. did you modify it like mine?

edit- are mk1 crossmember and mounts different from mk2's? that might explain it

Not sure why you couldnt have done it before? if it was a MkII C Box.

BTW if you want a replacement "short" Cbox like the stock s12 . . . look under a hardbody pickup.

no I had a C tranny before. with an s13 shifter (stock one). the top plate was different though, so I was forced to run a c's style short shifter that just replaces the shifter, instead of a B&M which is what I want to run but it replaces the whole top plate.

I've put a S13 det auto into mine.

Managed to use the s12 auto cross member, but to adapt between the two all that was required was 40mm square tube section. It needed 4 holes in it and 2 bolts joining it to two holes i drilled into the cross member. The two holes at the top need to be the exact size and location for the auto rubber mount bolts requiring angled ends in the tube to put the nuts on...

Mk1 S12 = 84 - 86
Mk2 S12 = 86.5 - 88

B trans = FS5W71B, Nissan's older trans with external shifter linkages.
C trans = FS5W71C, The newer trans that Nissan uses on damn near every RWD car, has internal shifter linkages and is for the most part the same as the 240sx's trans.

Will the MkII trans mount bolt up to the MkI dogbone crossmember? Or do I have to get a MkII dogbone and mount and use that (And if so, will the MkII dogbone fit into the stock 4 holes on the MkI)?

I am really lost now... so you did use a full size ka trans? YES OR NO.

Then you used the Front half of the s13 driveshaft... ok... there should be no difference between the 180sx and the standard USD s13 240sx.

So..... PICTURES!@!!

Lets see them..

dude. you and I think alot alike john. I thought the 180sx driveshaft WOULD be the same as the standarnd US s13 driveshaft. but its not!!! it uses a larger spaced 4 bolt pattern on the middle flange. SO I had to steal the driveshaft out of my S13, and put the 180sx driveshaft in that car. overall lenths is the same between JDM and USDM s13 driveshafts, and they are interchangeable, but they're not the same.

and it is a full size KA tranny, YES. and holy crap its bosstaculaar. shifter is actually in the right spot now instead of hitting my dash. hahahhaa. pictures sometime, no girlfriend anymore, no camera. <3 maybe I'll get another girl with a camera.
