Will the MkII trans mount bolt up to the MkI dogbone crossmember? Or do I have to get a MkII dogbone and mount and use that (And if so, will the MkII dogbone fit into the stock 4 holes on the MkI)?

Can't believe I have to bump my own shit.

hahaha perfect. digital cameras are key to relationship success, at least for me.

Well, we will be doing a SR install video in about 3 weeks here, so if you could specify with an exact list of the parts you used for the fullsize trans that would be awesome, because then i can run a full size in this car instead of a hybrid.

Awesome, Awesome!

magikb33r: general rule of thumb with the '86 XE is that if it's a silvertop valve cover, it's an mk.II.  if it's a blacktop valve cover, then ti's mk.I.

There is a plate on the firewall.  6th line down it says FS5W71B or FS5W71C.  the first is a B tranny, and the second is a C tranny.  there is a four digit code after that...this is for your rear diff.

yeah. so my KA'd s12 blew up the hybrid tranny I was running. It was a mk2 CA20E manual box with a KA bellhousing on it. I broke a shift fork pretty violently at the last drift event, and big chunks were coming out the drain plug when I changed the oil. So I figured, why not try this s13 transmission I had in the garage on for size.

I used:
s13 KA manual tranny
front half of an s13 manual driveshaft (USDM only! JDM 180sx driveshaft didn't work, I tried this first)
stock s12 mount and crossmember and clutch slave cylinder

you also have to trim back about 2 inches of sheetmetal for the shifter, but honestly, it puts it in a WAYYYYYY better position than before (right within reach) and I can use any aftermarket s13 shifter now. And since I have no interior, I don't mind having an extra 2 inches cut out of the center console area.

but I just wanted to confirm that YES if you use the front half of an s13 driveshaft, you can run an s13 gearbox w/o any custom work or fancy driveshafts.

its sliding time!

So let me get this straight....

I juss recently looked at that lil plate in my engine bay n saw that I have a C Tranny...so basically wat ur saying is that the KA tranny is a basic straight bolt in and lines up wit the mounts?

I kno u'd have to cut a lil to make the shifter fit, which i have no problem with. I do plan on swapping in a KA soon, IM juss trying to get as much info as I can about the tranny becuz from wat I read on the forum u can match up the belhousings...but since I have the C tranny I wanted to know if the ka tranny goes in and lines up easily. Knowing this will save me n my friends time with the swap if we dont have to mess with the bellhousings n gettin them on.

I am guessing NeedforCA's ka s12 originally was an Mk2 vg30e with the C tranny. It still seems unclear when it comes to bolting up the s13 ka tranny in an Mk1 model with regards to the tranny mounts...

I thought that it was confirmed that a new mount needs to be made, or is that wrong?

Yeah Smallter that is what I am hearing but it doesn't seem to have been confirmed yet

Is it expensive to get a custom tranny mount made?

Holy old threads, lol

The S14 and S13 chassis are different wheelbases and the shafts are both different. You need a S13 USDM one specifically, with the carrier bearing on the front half (short-side) instead of the rear half (long-side).
