240z Swap Into 200sx?
« on: 07:36:05 PM / 17-Jul-06 »
Just an idea I woke up with this morning. I have an good running 240Z engine and trans. And the body is pretty much shot, and just thought it would fer damn sure be neat. Besides the aftermarket is full of parts, fer git up and go. The wiring would be pretty straight forward. Before ya get yer panties in a bunch, I also have a CA18ET to fall back on. I see alot of advantages, an a few not so. Just toss out a few (opinions please). Thanks Ya'll.

Ya know what? I say do it. It sounds like a pretty cool project, there is a big aftermarket for the L24, and you'd definitely have a unique car. Go for it.

considering the l24 is carbed the wiring is like non existent besides a couple of gauges. I would imagine it will make the car a bit front heavy...and who knows what kind of clearence you would have bettween the front of the engine and the rad support...but you wont really know untili you try it. You will need to convert the front to an good set of s13 coilovers tho.

haha me modding would be a disaster.....Id get all power hungry and  demand n00dz from everyone. Then make all the canadian s12er's come here  and massage my feet and make me jello pudding.

Tedious?  This coming from a person who uses the word twice in a sentence?  I laughed repeatedly...

Hell dude...go for it. If it runs...swap it. At the very least it will be unique. Easier to work on too.

NAW man, L motors suck!

seriously though, My buddy put one in an S13. I imagine you'll have some clearance issues with the radiator.

If you can stuff a VH45 into an S12 with little front weight issues, I don't see why an L24 would be worse. Hell, An RB20 probably weighs around the same and people do the swap.

the VH45's weight is further back towards the center of the car. An L or any other inline 6 for that matter puts more weight forward of the front wheels. Not that I'm against Inlines whatsoever . . .

I'm seriously considering dropping a VG30DETT into my Z, it may end up being heavier than the L motor but i couldnt care less. The ENTIRE motor sits behind the strut towers.

I'd figure dropping a heavier engine in an S12 would mainly be for straights anyhow. Someone should do a CA18i next, lol

Thanks fellers! Yep, got a spare 2.8L also. But its fuel injected, so there goes the easy wiring. I'm gonna do a lil ( actually lots) of research obviously before I do this. Yeah, thought weight may be an issue. I'm sure I could come up with something to make it right, I mean if I couldn't make it handle and roadworthy, it wouldn't be worth it. Am I mistaken in thinking that if I had a welder make a "cradle" mount that could adapt to the stock location, that could overcome being nose heavy? Plus, losing all the a/c stuff ( shame cause it still works), should help. I'm gonna have to break out a tape measure on it this weekend (the engine that is), cause I'm thinking another plus would be having the shifter further back. Have to checkout driveshaft, radiator clearances, exaust, oilpan, and steering. I'm not gonna be bored this weekend! Did I miss anything? Fer I forget, I do have a turbo hood on her, that should help. If it looks like its gonna be more trouble than its worth, I can still go with CA18ET. Thanks again ya'll!
