And I believe I remember someone in the southern hemisphere is doing or has completed a VQ45 swap in an S12...like to see video of that if it's running ;]

right now i am just looking at options. i am about to get a first gen crx for free so i am looking for something fairly cheap.  the s12 is going to be my daily driver so i want it to be fast/fun.  the crx will hopefully have a b16 type r in it.  i just need more money!

ok so if i went with the vg30de what would i have to do?  custom mounts? driveshaft?

JasterM5

You'll probably need custom driveshaft, mounts, tranny mount. OH and it would be a good idea to have an r200 diff from an SE s12.

If you already have a VG powered s12 wouldn't the existing trannie, driveshaft etc all work with the VG30DE ??

Maxpow

With a Vg30dett why do you need the custom Turbo Manifolds? What is the best option if I want to go v6 turbo in my SE, I am looking at getting a vg30dett but are there other legitimate options?

And, I'm going to say this publicly. Maxpow knows how to keep me at bay, while still laughing with him. Take lessons y'all

yes you can turbo your se instead IMO it's not worth the hassle of swapping if you already have a vg30e you can do a remote mount turbo or you could tt the vg30 but you would have to get with Bart on that one because I beleive he has something in the works as far as that goes...

btw you bumped a really old thread haha

Approx how much would it cost to turbo the vg30e? I just bought an SE and my buddy at UTI suggested dropping a vg30dett in it, but I don't have the cash for that kind of project right now. Also, I don't know the true mileage of my engine. If I turbo it and blow it, would the vg30dett bolt right up if I swap it later down the road?

sideways_s12

that swap is a pain in the ass trust me just boost the one you got if you blow it up it'll be cheaper to rebuild your then to buy a vg30dett and do all the stuff you have to do to get it running...

Cant forget this pic

Also I talked to the guy that did this swap and he stated the car never ran he couldn't figure out why either but he said it was not worth doing especially since he did all the work and the didn't run

How bout the vg30de? Is it still a pain in the ass to drop in the dohc n/a?

sideways_s12

yes the motor is gonna be a tight squeeze either way n/a or boosted just you'll have alot more headache with the boosted because of the turbos if you happen to blow one you'll have to pull the entire motor to get to it I say stick with the vg30e and have fun with it. But if your hearts content with gettin the vg30de/dett then go for it but you'll hate yourself in the end

yeah the z31 guys are making over 500hp on the single slammer... wayyyyyy too much power for any s12. just go with the cheaper and simpler sohc motor. there isnt much difference, at least worthy...

Thanks guys. I'll stick with my vg30e then. Just to settle an argument, would a 2JZTT go into an S12? Some prick I talked to online insists that a 2JZTT is powering his S12, and it bolted right up. I've got an 85 Supra with a 1JZ N/A, and it doesn't look like it would go, much less a 2JZ with a TT. If a vg30dett would barely fit, then how would a 2JZTT? Oh, also the S12 in question is a Aussy owned RHD. Wouldn't the exaust conflict with the steering column as well?
