Ok if you've read any of my other posts on here, then you know I don't know a damn about a nissan. I'm not planning on making my car into a track only vehicle but want as much enjoyment out of it as possible on the street. So this is my plan...

First off I'm on a buget, as most of us proboly are, I'm not looking for an expensive swap or a motor that needs lots of upgrades to get off the ground. I think I'll be happy with numbers of 150-175 whp. But this is wishfull thinking because I dont even know my base numbers for a stock ca20.

I'm looking for numbers of stock motors, as many as I can get from everybody on all the common swaps into a 86 xe.

OHHH!!! One more thing. I looked at the door panel of my car and it said that it wieghs in at, get this 3538 lbs. GVWR!! A new 350z only scales at about 3200lbs. How much does this little thing actully scale at?!?!

JuneBug

A KA swap would put you with exactly as much power as you want.  Stock ca20e has something like 102 hp.

KA would be the way to go. you can pick them up for about $400

Damn!

Check your title, mine says the scale weight of mine (2395lbs)

Edit:

also, i dont know about your area, fill up your car with some trash and take it to the dump. they weigh your car when you go in and when you leave and it shows how much your car weighs.. I dont know if you can go to a weight station tho

Ok is that 102 wheel or crank hp? What do you think would be good numbers??? Im thinknig that Im under shooting way to much...

JuneBug

It's crank.  150 whp out of a ca20e would take way too much money.  Especially when KA's are so cheap.  I plan on doing a KA swap this summer.

dont put any money into the ca20. i think the best way to go is ca18det, its a motor that actually should be in this car, its light and puts out 175 stock. you can have it including shipping trans harness turbo and ecu for 1100

Nameless

CA or KA are the best answers, but swaps are pretty much equal in ease and would both take you to 175 whp with ease. and can easily take more.

CA basically would be exhaust, filter and mbc.
KA would be a small t28 or t25 at 6 psi

Both would work out to about the same price in the end

i was going to disagree with nameless but then i read carefully,,,

he is right a ka motor with a small t25 is going to equal as a ca18det or even more,

my suggestion is to go with a ka motor, easy to get, cheap and easy to turbocharge and tune!!

gvwr is Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.  That's not how much your car weighs.  That's how much the car CAN weigh after you load it up with all your crap when your girlfriend kicks you out.  It's just the manufacturer's suggested load limit.
