Yes, it's definitely possible. No, I do not recollect anyone doing an s15 SR swap with the 6spd. It shouldn't be too different from any other SR swap

That is the route I am going WHEN I go SR I hope you do it first. That is a nicely ratio'd tranny. It would make for a perfect track attack set up.

most people that get s15 motors but in the 5 speed tranny's
i think that the driveshaft is going to be a different size than an earlier sr20det
because of the tranny

The S15 tranny is less strong than the S13/S14 ones. But its a strong tranny.

It's like saying that someone who weight 300 lbs is skinny, compared to someone who weight 400lbs!

I believe the issue is that the gearset for 6 speeds is fitted onto layshafts that are the same length as the 5 speed layshafts, so the gears themselves are narrower, have a lower mesh area and hence the rumour that they are "weaker" If you are going to be crashing gears, then this might be a problem, but personally I think the clutch would give out before the gearbox.

Also, from memory the S15 SR20DET ECU needs a signal from a tacho sensor built into their diff to function. There is a way to overcome this, but I'll have to look back at some of the magazine articles from the last 2 years lol. I think it was August 2005 in NZPC, but I can't find it right now...

I'll get back to you

Christchurch (Durty South/Mainland)

As for parts - none spare sorry mate. I'd keep an eye out for a parts car if I were you or keep trolling the wreckers. There seems to be a lot more written off down here than actually running on the road lol...

Start a project thread, tell us about your car and we'll discuss it more there...

Back to the S15 Engine and box

Yes it can be done, but the speedo drive is in the differential, so to get it certified here, you would have to either use the S15 diff as well as custom halfshafts/mounts etc or custom make a solution.

The guy I was thinking of used a proximity sensor from a Volvo truck and used that to pick up the number of revolutions of the driveshaft flange bolts (Pretty clever I think  )

So I guess you have to weigh up whether it is worth the trouble.

Cheers

Some models of the S15 trans have the speedo port on the back half, but it's just plugged and only needs a sensor (I think, some have said it doesn't have the speedo drive worm gear either).

If I were you, I'd register over at AUS12 (Click Me) because they deal with a lot more JDM over there than the majority of American and Canadians on here (No offence lol) read thru some of the project threads, and remember only believe half of what the Australians say lol

yeah i've heard the S15 6-speeds are like glass as far as trannys go and i'm not possitive but is the tranny physically bigger in size?  fitment issue?  i wanted to do it in my S13 but it seemed to intimidating.
