I just want confirmed what I think I know.

To swap the engine, you need to possibly mod the chassis to accomidate. If it will fit you just have to fab up mounts and everything need to get it sitting under the hood.

To run the engine, you essentially need the Engine harness and the ECU, and a way to get fuel to the engine. Am I right in thinking this? This I know would be impractically for a daily driven car but I would like to just rip out all of the chassis wiring install the bare minimum I need to run the engine and just use a tach for my instrument. Then have a seperate circuit or "jerry rig" head lights tail lights and brake lights.

No ABS no Power steering.

I am a newb at all of this. I do not even know where to begin to start because my Dad has still not taken any time at all to show me the basics, and I am tired of waiting.
I'd rather be a matchstick than a lighter.

Yes it is very doable. The way the 200 is laid out there are several different harness, connected by various connectors. You have your EFI harness, your Front chassis harness, your rear chassis harness, and your dash harness. The ignition switch is comprised of a 4 pin connector: 1 pin receives constant 12v, and as you click the switch to ACC-->IGNITION-->START various components get power, this is 'decided' by the fuse block. The IGNITION wire for example arrives into the fuseblock, and splits off to various fused components (One of which is the EFI power), ACCESSORIES does the same thing except it power things such as the Radio, vents, etc. As for wiring headlights I did that exact thing with my project. The 200sx headlight wiring is the most complicated system of relays, swithces, and wires that I have ever seen.. I think it has something like 8 relays in the system.. All you need is 3 (Or if your good, 2). You will need a pinout for this, look at the switch and where is is continuity in what position, so you can use factory stalk positions.

What would you do about your gauge cluster? You could either hard-wire it or run aftermarket gauges. Personally, I opted for a 240sx digital cluster with Heads up Display.

Essentially what you should do is remove only the EFI harness, and possibly the front chassis harness. Generally with most nissans its a fairly simple formula it goes.

Power and ground the MAIN relay.
Power certain wires on the EFI harness from the ignition switch
Connect the start signal to the ecu.
Connect fuel pump (Ground activation)
Connect gauges through whatever means you wish.

This is as general as it gets..

PS- Why no power steering? It's all hydraulically controlled - there are no electronics usually (unless its speed sensitive, or HICAS).

I drove a friends car that bleeded the power steering and I really liked the feel. I know it has nothing to do with electricalls it just crossed my mind that I didnt want it when mentioning abs. The only down side to no power steering is drifting and getting fatigued.

Thank you for your response though that answered my question

I do not want many gauges.... temp, oil pressure and a tach thats really all I want
