Adjusting Wipers
« on: 03:21:54 AM / 17-Dec-07 »
My windshield wipers work fine, but for some reason, whenever I turn them off the go down too far. Sometimes they go to the right position, but sometimes I find that my passenger side one goes under the hood hinge and its already ruined my new wipers..

Any way to adjust these?

Take the nut off each arm, pry up the arms off of each stud, then put the arms on in the position you want, then tighten the nuts back down.

Pretty easy...hardest part is getting the arms off of the studs.  There maybe a puller of some sort you could use, or use pentrating lube.  I just used a screwdriver to pry them off, and I put too much stress on the windshield and ended up cracking it  No biggie, I lived in FL at the time, so I got a new windshield for free (state law).  Just be careful if you use a screw driver.

Check the bushings in the wiper linkage, they go bad after 20 years.  Mine would come apart (drivers side of course) because the ball at the end of the arm would unsnap from its plastic socket.  Try locating a newer socket or different tighter arm if this was the case.

For those with insurance, yes......free, no deductable's, no insurance hike, nothing.....just a free windshield.

You could always just get a shorter wiper blade/ holder for the passenger side

I think in CA most of the insurance companies will send someone out to repair cracks for free, so that they don't have to replace the windshield later.
