when i use to do graffiti art i used montana or belton cans wit "new york fat" caps the spray dot is about the size of a 4-5 inches in diameter "flair tips" seem to wotk great" but a new york fatty will drain a rattle can pretty quickly. ant thing with a "thin affixed to it wont work to paint a car. i.e ny thins german thins.

Im telling you all, RUSTOLEUM & DUPLICOLOR FTW. i just sprayed my front bumper last night, wow. i'll got some pics of it later.
duplicolor makes like 400 factory colors in aerosol, i just found that out.

Hey Sil-Love I followed everybit of what you wrote (well except the part where you said to you a buffer at 1000 rpms only had a small dewault grinder with a 10 in buff pad) and the results where awesome man. Although I wasn't gonna try it on my car so I did it on my wife's sentra first. I figured it looked more like shit than mines with all that clear flaking off and rust on the roof. Awesome walkthrough man.

Didn't have enough paint for the whole car just did the top.
Imagine this all over the top and hood and trunk

after wetsand and quick buffing

thanks again sil for the write up

id give my opinion except the link doesnt work....

i think here in a few weeks im going to shoot some duplicolor paint shop prizm clear on my s12 to liven things up a bit. i like metallics. the plain burgandy is nice but it needs some more bling to it.

that should be shinning a lot more if you buffed it with a pad. now remember i said in the beginning, its a foam pad i used. a 3m product, its really the only thing that will make it shine like hell, that or a wool pad. wool pads cut faster though so you have to be careful. the trizact stuff too is a great product.

^yeah thats perfect. i only say 2000 cause its way cheaper than the 3000. also use a foam or wool pad to buff.

Awesome write-up. I was going to take my car somewhere and try and get a quote for it but nevermind now. That's a great finish for rattle work. I'm gonna do the same to the car now, but just do area by area. Definitely the hood and the roof first... fading BADLY!

I'll take all of the steps sil-love posted, but I'll try a few coats of clear coat after the 2000-3000 grit paper over the paint and then buff it out with the trizact.

Once I get around to actually doing it, I'll post before and after pics. I'll be doing the hood first since that'll be the easiest. Might even just remove it.... If I can convince the roommate to clean up the garage. uhhh.....

I've done interior paint work with trim that came out great, but it was a lot simpler than this. I'm not quite a novice and rattle work but this will be interesting.

My Work-in-progress
The Mods: Blaster SS coil, KA24 Throttle Body (60mm), custom intake piping, 86' Z31 MAF and ECU, 2.5" exhaust from downpipe, "test pipe" replacing cat, shortened shifter handle,  NGK sparks and wires, and dual electric radiator fans.

What I want: springs, shocks, and someday, turbo.

Have you guys heard of the $50 paint job? search it up on Google...

supposedly you mix house paint with mineral spirits
Actually, it's regular automotive paint, not house paint. lol

the areas that are peeling will need to be feather egded smooth. chances are if its peeling in one spot it will peel in another later. id probably use 220-320 grit then 400. you could paint over the 400 but idealy 600 would be perfect pre-paint.

Dont mean to revive an old thread, but Ill be rattle can painting my car this weekend and so far Im as ready as I can be...only problem though is I dont have the money for an orbital buffer and theres no rental places around that has them (theres a POSSIBLE place currently)

Anyway, I can get through the primering, sanding, and painting just fine Im sure.  But whats something I can do instead of using the buffer and trizac 3M stuff?  Also, if I do get a hold of the buffer, you mention its called "color sanding".  I plan on 2toning my car and was wondering if the colors would run together if I buffered in the spots they meet.

Any and all help is appreciated, thanks
