No Keys, Remove Wheel Lock?
« on: 03:26:47 PM / 18-Feb-08 »
Damnit, the guy thats storing my 84 Turbo car says he has to move it around, and needs the keys... unfortunately keys weren't apart of the deal with the car, nor was a title so that screws going to the dealer or a locksmith...

so is there anyway of unlocking the steering without the keys? I figured I could go in, take the ignition switch out, and somehow get the lock steering loose. how can I disable the Wheel Lock? is there a way to unbolt the whole assembly or do I have to drill it out? are there any tricks to it?

gotta drill it out theres no way to unbolt anything... unless you disconnect the steering shaft from the power steering shaft in the engine bay.. you wont be able to steer with the wheel but you can steer with the wheels if all you need to do is move it around

take the top cover off of the column, then look at the aluminum housing that the ignition is in, there will be two security screws  that look completely smooth, drill them out(you dont have the keys for the ignition and the housing comes with a new one) and the steering column will now be free to move. the ignition switch will fall off of the steering column.

when you get a new switch it comes with two special screws that the head breaks off of at a set torque, leaving a secure switch with no way to remove with common tools. therefore you have to drill the heads off.

or unscrew the plate from the back of the lock cylinder, (Its only one single Phillips screw) then pull it off and look at it, take a flat head screw driver and stick it in that slot that you see, and turn the screw driver the same way you would the key.....walla, instant starting car with no key.

sterling showed me this......im pissed at how easy it is to hotwire our cars.

apparently I was incorrect, you can start the car and everything this way, but the wheel will remain locked....which means if you really want to, you can drive it in circles over and over again, or in a perfect straight line for a ways.......

^lol

Actually, what I did was pretty easy, if you take a hacksaw or small angle grinder and slot those screws, they tend to come right out with a flat-head screwdriver.  Real easy, and replaceable

I've never jacked an S12.  I swears.

well, we got it moved,

however what I'm going to say next, i must add that I'm only telling you guys this as information to help protect against thieves and such, so if you try any of this and you get caught stealing a car, I'M NOT AT FAULT!!!  the only reason I made this post was because I don't have keys, a key smith or a dealer will not give me a key UNLESS i have proof of ownership IE Title and Registration, which i have nether...
I own this car and i had to move it... as simple as that...

with that said, S12s are extremely easy to break into and steal... As i was getting the drill ready, about to take the panel off, my friend says "wouldn't it be faster if we just broke the lock?" I said, I dont think you can do that. I mean, come on, car companies make locks for this very reason... so i said, sure knock yourself out... within about 10 seconds, the wheels were turning freely with no key in sight... to be honest, i was a little dumbfounded.
Thinking about it, it really wouldn't take much for someone to steal, lets say my VG30 S12, bust the glass, break the lock in 10 seconds, hot wire it and its gone... this kinda scares me. when i get one closer to what i want, i think I'm going to invest into a security system...

However so that this thread isn't totally poop, if you want to move your car without keys, you can ether, get one made, drill out the lock, or barrow my friend and break the lock...

Unbolting isn't that easy for you, contact a locksmith to do that task else if you are near to the dealership. Call them to help with it.
