My Rsx From Oz.

Hi guys,  I have been a member on these forums for a couple of years, but this is my first post.  I thought you guys maybe interested in my build.  I have this posted up on s12silvia.com, so some of you may have already seen it.  This is a direct take from that post, so some of you may wonder what all the ozzie talk is about.  Anyway I hope you all enjoy.

It all started around 2003 with myself and S12's.  Before then my love affair with japanese cars were stricly turbo 4 wheel drive.  I had previously owned a JDM WRX STI Type RA, and an evo v GSR.  One day back in 04' a red S12 came into my old mans workshop and I didn't really think anything of it when I saw it.  The car had been at the shop for a couple of days when the head mechanic told me I had to go out with him when he test drove it.  Well, I did as instructed and I guess you can say the rest is history, that is when I developed my love for this car in particular.

When the owner came to pick up the car a few days later I collared him in the car park & asked if he was interested in selling it, at the time he said he had no interest in doing so.  I instructed hime that if he was ever to consider it, to ring me first.
After a couple of months I bought an 85' IRS notch and started putting in an SR20DET etc.  Just after I put the motor and bigger turbo in the car, my inspiration came back to the workshop with a suspected head gasket issue.  I stayed back and helped our mechanic take the head off.  The problem turned out a bit greater than a head gasket, the block was cracked in 3 of 4 cylinders.  Considering in it's last re-build it had been bored 90 thou oversize, and had run 30psi for four years while 90thou over, I could understand.  When the owner was confronted with the reality of another engine re-build he was quite keen to unload it.  That's where I stepped in and happily forked over the cash.

The car sat in the workshop for the next 2 years gathering dust.  Over those 2 years I discovered Aus12.org.  It was then I found out my car was quite notorious around the s12 community in oz, infact  alot of people have said they got into S12ââ,¬â,,¢s through this car back in the late 90ââ,¬â,,¢s.  Many of you know this car with itââ,¬â,,¢s coined name ââ,¬Å"deported assassinââ,¬Â.  The name deriving from a magazine article in Auto speed where this car was the feature. Here is a link: http://autospeed.com/cms/title_Deported-As...18/article.html

http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn158/s.../deported03.jpg

My car was imported back in 1998 by JMS.  Danny imported the car into oz as their promotion / drag car.  The car quickly gathered a reputation in the illegal street drag scene in SA after it beat the second fastest WRX in Australia at the time, which ran low to mid 12ââ,¬â,,¢s, and was owned by a guy named Michael who was part of the Iblis car club.  While in the hands of JMS the car had around 250rwkw, not much by todays standards I concede, but back in the late 90ââ,¬â,,¢s this car was considered mental to most other modified turbo street cars around oz.

Once the car did itââ,¬â,,¢s job & gave JMS a name around town, it was put on the market and quickly snapped up by a guy named Andrew for $13,000.  It turns out he had fallen in love with the car much like I had after seeing it frequent the illegal street drags.  I managed to track Andrew down on an off chance and we have sent each other a few e-mails about the car.  He says that once he bought the car he soon realised its reputation was bigger than any of its dyno figures.  He said guys used to pull up next to him at the lights bragging about the car.

The car remained in Andrews hands for the next 2 years, where he said he got a real crash course lesson in maintaining high performance turbo cars.  Being young and none the wiser, he made a few misguided decisions  which took the cars performance a little backwards and left his back pocket substantially emptier.  He eventually sold the car to a friend at the time by the name of Ben.

This guy did not own the car for that long, apparently he sold it after he lost control of it, hit a curb and did some minor suspension & steering damage.  After Bens brief encounter with the car it was then snapped up by a Melbournite by the name of Dexter.  Apparently Dexter became friends with the previous owner Andrew after he moved to Melbourne, and just like me tried to by his old car back.  Anyway Dexter had the car as his daily driver for a few years, and somewhere in that time frame an engine re-build was required.  Although me not really knowing Dexter I donââ,¬â,,¢t really know much of the cars history while he owned it.

And so they say, the rest is history.  I have now owned the car for about 5-6 years and donââ,¬â,,¢t plan to sell it anytime soon.  After the car sat around the workshop for at least 2 years, I finally got around to re-building the engine back to the same specs as it basically had been since in Australia.  Once run in and tuned up it made 249rwkw.  The reason for this being the car was running 30psi boost and kept blowing out the spark because they couldnââ,¬â,,¢t get enough ignition timing out of the standard dizzy setup.

This is what the car pretty much looks like now.  These photos were taken about a year ago though.

What the engine bay used to look like.

What the engine bay looked like around 6 months ago, it has come a long way even since then.

Not long after this, well only about 1,500kmââ,¬â,,¢s after itââ,¬â,,¢s final tune, I took the car off the road again.  It was obvious this poor little S12 was in some desperate need for TLC.  And after another 14 months or so of sitting in a shed, the deported assassin in just about to get back on the road again.  Once it hits the streets again it will have basically had a ground up re-build, featuring a pile of engine modifications that should be seeing the car making hopefully over 500bhp.  Fingers crossed.  I am just waiting for a friend to finish off all the metal fabrication.  Once thatââ,¬â,,¢s finished iââ,¬â,,¢ll put the new front end in the car, get the motor ready to start, send it back to the auto elec to finish wiring up the new ignition system, then itââ,¬â,,¢s straight to the dyno.

This is the last time my car saw daylight, some few months ago.

Been a fan of this since it was first imported to Oz.  Glad you have been able to keep it and is doing it justice.

Thanks for the compliments, as for the stickers, they were romved long before I owned the car.  I admit they looked alright, but I still prefer the way it looks now.

Navy_Mech2

At least someone changed the rims. The old ones were hideous IMO

That heap of s**t in the background is a ford XD falcon. around an 86 model.  Falcons are one of the most common cars besides holden commodores in oz.

THAT IS EASY, anyone can camber a skinny as tire till it dosnt rub. Now fitting an 11 with a 315 on stock fender with reasonable camber, that is fitment. And looks, and performs better than both.
