I was wondering what's everyone's take on e85 I ran it on my last ca18et (which was stock btw) and no problems now I know some people say you have to run bigger injectors and such but like I said I ran it on my last turbo s12 without a hitch let me know what you ethanol geniuses think..

I've heard from the Z guys that it kills your injectors on the long run. i dunno 100% i'd have to research and try it out.

Been running it for 2 years .,.,..,NO problems do some research and buy a wideband/data logger, upgrade your fuel pump, buy some fuel filters(or a washable one) and some way to tune like afc etc you need aprox 40% larger injectors(and fuel) to stay at the same hp and duty you are at know shoot for lambda .80 to .85 ish wot and your gold,,,,,my local station is at102/105octane(tested) some have quoted as high as 107 octane and it runs 3.19 a gallon(as of today) and I am using approx 22% more fuel per tank

There is also a plug and play module available for around $400.00 from flextek, but I have yet to see it used on a turbo application

ahh ok I was wondering about the injector size was thinking of going to z31 injectors and trying it out. But like I said b4 I used it on my stock 85 that was stolen and had no problems I didn't change anything and it still ran like a champ. I was thinking of running it again without changing anything with my bigger turbo and seeing what happens

the thing with this fuel in our cars is that the ecu cant compensate enough timing to run it correctly what most people dont know is that e85 actually burns slower, hence why the ecu needs more timing for it to correctly run right.. this is one reason people say dont run e85 unless your car is rated for it... otherwise its a hit and miss.. i used it in mine years back and i had major issues with hesitations and stutters until i advanced my distributor alot to compensate for the slower flame front

well as it is now my timing is advanced a little so I was gonna go with it an see what happens

well calculate out ur mpg as all the people i have known who have tried it about half have attained no improvment in mpg and the other half have actually lost economy

as i stated unless you can dial the fuel in you wont see extra power.. slower flame front will actually loss u power not gain. the reason for the high octane is cause it burns slower so hence its less likly to detonate, the whole octane numbers are all based off of anti knock....

I run ca18det injectors, stock ECU maf  and fuel pump and e85, better pistons and ca18det rods, BCPR7ES plug at 0,8mm ant T3/T4 turbo at 14 psi

11-12 afr at idle, 10 at wot.
Hesitating at 13° timing, 15° hesitating at idle to middle rpm good after, and 20° awesome reponse from bottom to end but my headgasket leaks after like 50 kms without overheating...

Any advice? I'll go to 10/12 psi and stay at 15° next time

If it helps your decision at all...... On an Engine Masters episode I watched a couple of months ago they tested e85, 89, 91, and racing fuel and found no discernible difference in horsepower.

It has nothing to do with horsepower it’s more for detonation the higher octane resists detonation and thus you run timing differently…
