Alot Of Options....

Ok im not sure if im being stupid here.. So if i am forgive me..

Im trying to do as much researching as i can but im on a slow wireless "under 56K"

I was on jdmsource and i found the following

Ca18det for 1300
RB20det for 1000
SR20det redtop for 1800

I know the ca18 is a direct in and a few minor wiring but hell the RB is less with 205hp ... but im sure iv read this correctly that it's alot more work for mounts and everything..

I dont want to annoy anyone so like i'v said im hope im not repeating...


Im just looking for suggestions and advice im new to this and i want to do everything right. " Note i'll be getting the net hooked up once i get settled in at the new place... im on a free wireless network and its slower then a cavalier in the mud"

Im also getting this done by a shop while im on the road over winter trucking.. So it's not a rush rush deal.

I'm surprised and not that the CA18DET is more than the RB20.  The red top SR wont give you much more than the RB will.  With the right tuning and a fmic and exhaust, you can have an easy 240rwhp reliable with only an Apexi Neo.  Only issue will be installation.  Much harder than a CA or a SR.  So if you are wanting a good amount of power, easy install and price... I would prolly go CA18DET.

I like the CA, for bolt-in convenience, easier to get parts, lighter (RB), build strength, and price.

Since you want to roam the continent with this car, parts availability- and people that can work on it- is something you might want to strongly consider.

thanks guys, i think i'll stick with the original Ca plan and get it.  i was just overly surprised on the price and wanted to run this by more knowlegable members.

I would say that 1300 isn't a bad price, if the motor is complete, in good shape (do they have compression #s?? should get them), has trans, wiring, and ECU.  Also, be aware there might be a few things you would want to ask about, as in the 'dropping resistor' and maybe one or two other sensors that I'm forgetting that are specific to the CA18DET.  You might want to start a thread in that section asking what all it needs to come with to be a running package, a few guys who have this swap have had to source bits and pieces they were missing.
