CA18DET can be had for 900 - 1,400 (complete swap) and it's all bolt on except for the tranny i think.

now if you wanna take time and go with custom fab the RB20DET goes for about the same price and is 210hp on 9psi i think. (complete swap)

the 18DET though has alot of potential though, the RB'S head flow is based on the CA18DET'S head flow, thats how good it was.

you could go with a SR but your looking at 2,000 - 2,500 for a SR  (complete swap)

oooooor you can go KA24DE and then turbo it with left over money. they can go for 200 - 500 (complete swap but it depends.) and they have globs of torque

SR20DE, and turbo it later. Stock SR20DE (S14 anyhow) with intake and exhaust will have about the same power as a stock CA18DET, and usually costs $800 for a full swap.
Problem is finding one.

Otherwise, KA!

dont sr20de's have a higher compression ratio pistons vs the turbo model? honestly, just got with a turbo SR since it will cost MORE to turbo a non turbo model then to just buy one thats already equiped with one

Yeah, so?  No different than turbocharging a KA.

I went about $1200 all together... And I had to buy a flywheel and bellhousing, and a used turbo will go a long way. All the parts can be had for around $200 for a low mile T25.

yeah, and a KA will only cost 450 or so for a complete swap since people dont want them, while a SRDE is 900 bucks. another few hundred bucks and you can have the turbo model, instead of spending $1200 down the road later to turbo the car correctly.

just my opinion

Well, and depending on what you get, a turbo KA will end up costing the same or more too.

And really, you'd end up spending about the same to get that power out of a CA... How much do you think it would cost to get 280BHP out of a CA18DET?

with all due respect, bullshit,

ive not seen one KA worth a damn that someone didnt want a fortune for... i supose as soon as SR swap people found out that people want ka's, they try and milk them for all they are worth, which most are old and tired anyways...

when i was looking at a KA swap, it was running in upwards of 1000, and thats all used parts
but also plus rebuilding the KA

but thats imo

by far the CA18DET is the easiest, probably the most cost effective swap. everything
fits with little or no mods. if you want, you can even use your stock tranny( the det tranny IS better though).

The same could be said of the KA on all points except that it's WAY cheaper, parts are WAY more available, and from what I've read over the past few months, the electronics are somewhat simpler.
