Free The 200sx Notch

So my roommate and I are starting a 200SX project. It's actually his car, but I'll be putting about $1,000 into it in exchange for his VQ35HR/6speed. He's been on here before, TitaniumBMX, this is the 2nd 200SX to wind up in our garage. The last one turned out pretty cool and was sold a while later, so here's the next one...

I believe it's a 1986, but I could be wrong. Maybe 87. Notch. We got it for free from the goodwill store while looking for old computer parts, it was sitting abandoned in the parking lot and they told us to take it cuz the police wouldn't and they didn't know whose it was. It'd just been sitting there for months. So we brought it home, dusted it off and hotwired it. Fired right up, the only other mechanical problem was a flat tire and no radiator cap, so why it was abandoned is beyond me.

Anyways, the plan, so far that I know is to turn it into a little track car. Here's what we've done so far:
- Gutted the nasty ass interior
- Removed the shot fenders/bumpers and scraped off the bondo
- Removed a/c compressor and all a/c components in the engine bay
- Fashioned a little adapter and added a K&N filter
(by the way, it was really cool. Took an old Volvo 740 MAF and cut one of the ends off with a hacksaw. All the way flush with the metal surround on top and that piece we cut off bolted right up to the 200SX flapper, the cone secured right onto that. That was way easier than last time when we made it from a piece of aluminum IC piping.)
- Removed clutch fan, installed e-fan.

Not too much, but not bad for 2 days of work. We have a ton to do still..
- Needs new fenders/doors/bumper covers/SE kit
- Needs minor body work on the left rear panel
- Someone welded on a tow package that we've gotta figure out how to get off still
- Has a crappy automatic, which is going to kill the HP that this thing puts out.
- CA20E engine which puts out what, 4.5HP with a tailwind? SR20DET sounds good.
- Suspension/brakes
- Wheels/tires
- Yada yada, you know the drill. Every damn thing.

Should be fun... Might put up pics later tonight.

2 same threads?

We are in Southern California.. Camarillo to be specific.
Not sure what the mileage is.
The problem with the tow package is it was put on by somebody's friend's uncle's cousin's brother's neighbor's co-worker who happened to have a shitty welder and he welded it to weird ass places, like to the bolts that secure the rear bumper. It's genius.

Ok... So as far as suspension, get the springs taken care of, AGX's bolted on there.

Now, onto the sway bars. There's Addco, but there's a problem with the Addco's. The problem is $200 per bar.

Are there stock sway bars that are just as efficient from another vehicle? If not, what about dual bars? A lot of guys on Volvo forums do that.. Just make a plate that bolts to the stock sway bar location with an extra set of holes in it for a 2nd sway bar to bolt onto the plate. They say it works great and saves them $350 from having to buy iPd bars.

[edit]

We can pick up Z31 turbo bars for $40 each. 2" wide steel piece of metal is free, drill some holes in it and bada-bing. Saves $150 on a rear Addco bar.
Then the front isn't even worth that, we can grab S13 bars for like $120 and bolt that bitch straight on.

Here's the numbers the guy came up with...
16+16 = 19.027 __ 19+19 = 22.595 __ 21+21 = 24.973 __ 23+23 = 27.352 __ 25+25 = 29.730
16+19 = 21.037 __ 19+21 = 23.873 __ 21+23 = 26.243 __ 23+25 = 28.615
16+21 = 22.581 __ 19+23 = 25.307 __ 21+25 = 27.657
16+23 = 24.242 __ 19+25 = 26.866
16+25 = 25.988

its an 86.

addco is good

dual is bad remember that extra weight = bad (almost 45Lbs)

that volvo thing is cool but it wont work the same on the s12 its a different design
and it independent rear

and 1x z31 turbo bar is more than enough

Arro

From your welcome thread...

Cool. There's that solved, $90 for a new HG. Dude, are these right? I'm bored as shit over here without my boss here...

- KA24DE/5 Speed
- CM Springs $200
- KYB AGX Shocks for MR2 $120
- KYB AGX rear shocks for Mustang $180
- Z31 24MM Rear sway bar $45
- S13 Front sway bar $120
- SE body kit $175
- Front fenders $60
- Front/rear bumper covers $100
- Welded differential
- Flat black spray paint
- Left rear body work

Add it up, $1000. LoL

I do think this is the best option, the VG30E would have needed an SE model crossmember. The KA is bolt in and will give you a HUGE increase in power with just 2.5" exhaust (trust me I know firsthand), then you can either get an SR20DET as you were both thinking before, or just turbocharge the KA, which has also been done quite successfully. Go visit http://www.ka-t.org for more info.

I don't really like the dual swaybar idea though, honestly before you stiffen the sways up, make sure you have the rubber to grip. With cheap tires, a little chassis flex actually helps prevent you from losing traction. Once you tighten the sways, your tires now do all the work, so they had better be really good tires. Something to think about.

THAT IS EASY, anyone can camber a skinny as tire till it dosnt rub. Now fitting an 11 with a 315 on stock fender with reasonable camber, that is fitment. And looks, and performs better than both.

@TiBMX
Yeah, that's what I was wondering.. If the 1 Z bar would suffice. And if not, then would duals. Anything to skimp on $200 for one bar.. you Nissan people are crazy.

And if that's a 45# bar, I'm gonna laugh and laugh and laugh and laugh.

@Arro
The VG was out after I read about the work to the X-member, I was under the impression it was just a drop-in as well. Most likely won't wind up KA-T, tho.. Just sell the KA and use that towards the SR. KA's are cute, but he's on a SR binge, so for sure it won't stay that way.

Arro

lol @ "SR binge"

I'm sure someone on here  and in socal will want to snatch up that KA when the time comes.

HUGE NEWS!!! I wasn't sure how I was gonna do it... So I just took the philips screw driver, some PB blaster and towels. At first I was worried I might break something, but I did it. And I did it all by myself.

Just look at that clean valve cover. Shiny as hell....

[sorry, old joke from the Volvo forums.]

[Sorry, might look like I'm posting a lot.. Hint, if there's no grammar, capitalization or spelling... It's TitaniumBMX ]

At the end of the day..

And why do we do it?

For the tacos.

FOR THE TACOS! YES!!!

Looking good guys, I remember a similar adventure just a few months ago with my car!  except, my car is all rusty and shit!  Are you going to pound all the rubber shit off the floor?

Keep working and the tacos will keep flowing...Looks good though.  I'm interested in seeing how this turns out.

We will be trying dry ice on the sound deadener later on this afternoon.

Thanks for the replies.

F*CK THE FREE NOTCH

PUTTING 1K INTO A CAR IN EXCHANGE FOR A VQ35HR + 6 SPEED??  I would sell kidneys for that engine and tranny...
I'd sell testicals as well, but I dont think theres a high demand for those...
PURPLEâ€Ã,¦OGâ€Ã,¦KUSH - I'm curious to see what Rauh-Welt could do with an S12 hatch
DeathAndMajesty - lol They would probably smelt it into another porsche.

Whatchu know bout Hard Gay?!?!
Hard Gay Clickie!

MeatRo

Yeah.... But it's used. 8,000+ miles on it, it's got no ECU, no wiring harness. I said $725, take it or leave it. But somehow I got conned into $1,000. TB, you bastard..

Just kidding, I'm stoked. And the testicle thing doesn't work, I tried posting mine on CL in exchange for a R34 GT-R or $65,000, but nothing doing.
