The Impulsion s12 Build
« on: 08:16:49 AM / 18-Dec-08 »
Hi i've had bothered you in club-s12 about an older 1985 fj20e but that was sold and I have now found another silvia which is a RS 12 1988 with CA18ET.

I want your opinion on if it's a good car and the shape of it from the outside. Engine and transmission should work all OK.

And I got another question as well - is there a output difference in the german version of the ca18et and the american? I see two things around - 122 hp and 135 hp. This has to be the german spec version.

[a href=\"http://img404.imageshack.us/my.php?image=18122008174yz3.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"]

These backlights look like the american version?

Is the front lower spoiler right? I have seen the same but without the mid
part and it seem to bend more in the middle. Might have been broken and then fixed?

Those lights are standard euro and they were modded. USDM 18ET's had 8 spark plugs for emissions. I think Euro's had 4. Do you have 4?

1988 seams late for a Ca18et, are you sure its not a DET? Which would raise further questions.

You have a saggy MK2 lip. Easy fix.
I'd rather be a matchstick than a lighter.

So the lights are aftermarket modding?

No haven't checked the sparks but does that change performance and is it possible to mod the engine to a 8 sparks if it's not?

Actually now that you made me notice that about the years, it is a 87 ca18et - the owner told me it was a 88

Cool because it doesn't look that good that way

EDIT:
Does the RS mean anything to performance or trim?

The lights are most likely a decent spray paint job. No real performance benefit to 8 plugs, just a cleaner burn.

I'm not sure because the side parts of the backlights dont look like the mk2's as well. It looks like they might have swapped the original lights with the ones of the 3.0.

So the engine output should be 135hp?

Well welcome to the club, another person from Denmark  Someone else from Denmark just signed up a few months ago on here.

There needs to be a european S12 forum I think... the UK guys have been mostly keeping to themselves recently, and more people in the EU have been signing up on here.

The power difference between the USDM ca18et and EURO ca18et is due to all USDM cars having to pass california emissions which are way higher than in europe.  The main difference between the 2 engine is a different CAM specs and fuel map too match it.  The european cars have the euro cam (wait, that does makes sense after all ).  As for the rest, I believe everything is the same

or a piece of electrical tape... either way, an easy fix.

if you are unsure of the mechanicals, consider bringing it to a mechanic for a thorough inspection before you purchase, that way you'll know what you are getting into.  the mechanical stuff isn't that bad, its wreck/rust damage that you need to be aware of, the current owner may be completely honest but have no idea of its existance, due to being hidden or repaired long ago.  Something to consider....

The rear lights are painted and modified with tape (which cannot come off   ).

I got this question and do not want to spam with new topics and since this post is in garage already I thought it was the right place.

My engine is in really bad condition: broken wastegate, clicks from engine, blown exhaust manifold and one of the cylinders is not getting any spark at times. Therefore I am going to do a complete overhaul but at the same time use some nice parts. I have already ordered 4 x intake ngk iridium spark plugs and 4x exhaust with same type plugs. Now looking for magnacor spark plug wires and thought of the KV85 but the prob is that it's a 8,5 mm while the spark plugs are 6mm. Will this cause any trouble? It does say at magnacors website that it can fit into all kind of spark plugs but then why the idea of having different size wires?

Promising some pictures after installation (not like you haven't seen before, but pictures are always good )!

Sold the FJ20 = Fail

the FJ20 has 155hp and can handle some boost and is Rare

the ca18et has 135 and will more than likely melt if you boost it much more and is as common as a hooker in vegas...

oh well, at least you still have an S12
