Temporary Restrictions On New User Sign-ups
« on: 04:24:28 AM / 07-Apr-09 »
In an effort to further eliminate spammers, I have set new user validations to both email link validation requirement (as before), as well as final approval by an Admin. This means that Colin, Bart, and myself are required to review and approve (or deny) new user registrations.

As an additional step, I have all new user registrations reported to our admin email box, so we can keep tabs on EVERY new signup.

IF YOU ARE TRYING TO SIGN UP AND ARE READING THIS: Be patient! We will try to validate new users as quickly as we can, but there are no guarantees you will be approved within the same day.

I think that these two drastic steps may eliminate any and all spammers. These are temporary measures, but are going to be in place as long as we feel they are needed.

Hella flush and all associates should be gunned down for brainwashing people into thinking a 225 and lots of camber is proper wheel fitment. THAT IS EASY, anyone can camber a skinny as tire till it dosnt rub. Now fitting an 11 with a 315 on stock fender with reasonable camber, that is fitment. And looks, and performs better than both.

did you install the update to IPB that addresses this issue?

Quote
IP.Board 2.3.6 Released!
Various reports regarding spam bots have prompted a release of IP.Board 2.3.6. This upgrade includes improved CAPTCHA methods, specifically the integration of the third-party service

You will probably continue to have spam-bot problems as long as you are running outdated IPB software. We had a fund drive on Carolinanissans.com to cover a software upgrade to our costs.

There are a lot of security venerabilities and bot-scripts written to log onto your older version of the software. 2.1.6 is way out of date.
quality > quantity

Fail: because you are probably too stupid to come up with an actual post.
(noun)FTW: see above.

IPB updates require your license to be valid. Indy let the license expire about six months before he handed things over to me. Renewing the license isn't expensive, but once you let it lapse, you have to purchase a NEW license, and that IS expensive. VERY.

User validation: At present, when a new user signs up, they are sent a validation email to the email address they specified. They are required to click a link that contains special code to validate the account on the forum.

With the new requirements, at that time I am required to approve it.
