BLUE THUNDER -- She's beat up, and she's been around the block a few times. But she thunders down the road.

Ok so she's not so beat-up looking anymore. At present, she's KA24DE-equipped, repainted, and rolling on new wheels... check out all the pages to see the swap and other things... It's come a long ways from what is shown on the first page here. Current appearance on PAGE 7. Very different than how it started ;)

Two-tone paint, new wheels, engine bay blinged up a bit:
http://club-s12.org/v3/index.php?topic=27418.msg362279#msg362279

This car was an easy choice at only $100 from a local member. It's become something far better. I got it awhile after it was stripped of a really good suspension setup, the particulars of which have helped club members all over with their S13 suspension conversions. It had been handed down through people since then.

The car mentioned began as a 1985 w/ a CA20E & automatic transmission. So this car was passed from one member to another. And then it was traded to yet a third SoCal Club-S12 member. And then it was in a fender bender (literally the fender was wrecked), and then it was handed off to another member temporarily... until it ended up in my hands.

It used to be called the SoCal  bitch. It's been in the hands of five different S12 people in the course of a year's time. It's blue. Kinda. Okay not entirely anymore. It's something of a 'beater, but it's going to be a slider one day.

It's Blue Thunder:

Okay so it's not exactly fast at the moment... It's just a CA20. And it's not exactly able to bust the wheels loose... it's an ATX. But things can change, and soon enough this WILL be sliding.

Here's what it looked like before it was pimped around the SoCal crew...

Back then, it had Tein coilovers on the front, and some custom adjustable perches and springs w/ AGX shocks in the rear. Otherwise it was stock. The body was perfect. Then Hung (a.k.a. Mod Mastas) went canyon carving and hit the driver side fender.... and pushed the wheel back a little bit. But it still ran fine.

Hung was completing a CA18DET swap in an '86 Turbo S12, and he raped all the suspension goodies from this blue car for the swap project. Not long after, the car was sold to Andrew (demonic S12), who replaced the fender and got it straightened up. He ditched the hood latch and went to pins.

At some point Andrew and Alex (also known as Eternalswap) decided to trade cars... this S12 for a 90's Accord. Alex tuned up this S12 a bit more, threw on some ST lowering springs and shocks, and drove it for awhile, until he had an unfortunate encounter with a Honda Odyssey... the Honda driver's fault of course, but it left the passenger-side fender and doors jacked up.

Alex couldn't hang onto the car, because he picked up an S13 coupe. So Sterling (200SXkitcar) plopped down some $$$ and later I took the car back to Hemet... Sterling was basically the custodian for a couple weeks... then I shelled out the cash for it, and now I'm the fifth SoCal Club-S12 guy to own this car within a year.

I've got plans for this car... I'm working on a severe budget, but the goal is to build a quick and dirty drift car.

First step was to throw on some wheels.. when I got it, it came with three different kinds of wheels (an S13 alloy, two S12 meshies, and an S13 steelie). I picked up a set of Celica Supra 14x7" aluminum wheels, cleaned them up, and had the center bores enlarged to fit the S12 hubs as well as any Nissan wheel. Then I threw some Toyo Proxes TR1 tires on them... 195/55 series:

The wheels fit flush...

The rear camber isn't horrible, considering the rear drop:

Light 'er up!

Maybe someday soon I'll light up tires instead of just tails.

Plans? It's a CA20E auto trans car. The first thing to do will be a manual trans swap. Then weld the R180. After that... I'll try to drift it. A couple people on here have done decently well with CA20 manual trans cars w/ welded diffs, so I'm pretty open to the idea of trying the same thing.

Right now, I need to paint the replacement driver side fender Sterling grabbed, and then the replacement door... but it'll be coming together pretty quick.

I haven't forgotten the KA car, and it's going to be finished, but this is a quick and dirty throw-together thing, this blue '85 S12.

So here's what the car looked like it when I got it...

It had Alex's fine touch lol.

Adult Swim FTW:

More damage, the rear passenger quarter:

A closer look.

...the door got jacked up pretty bad, too...

And of course, the fender:

This side wasn't in the accident with the Honda Odyssey, but when Hung had it, he hit something (a guardrail?) when he was canyon carving. The fender was jacked up, along with the headlight, but Andrew replaced all that. Unfortunately it bent the tension rod bracket and so the wheel is dislocated a bit back.

I have new custom tension rod bushings from BARTCO, and will be repairing the tension rods and setting the wheel back to the proper position.

So yeah, there were three different wheels on them. Two of them were these meshies...

The other two seen here are the steelie and the 240SX alloy crap. Ew.

Anyways this side is virtually untouched:

The non-stock muffler that was on there when Hung bought the car:

Strangely it looks more stock than the stock one. The stock one is fucking whack-retarded if you ask me.

I just replaced the fender, and soon I'll replace the door with the one sitting in Sterling's back yard. Pics of put-back-together body soon.

The stock muffler on these cars are just just plain fucked IMO. I don't understand what was possessing them to make them like that from the factory...

Perfect base for a drift car!!! Already damaged, so to make it a show car will be waaay too much work and money. Plus this way it can have some rapport at the local tracks. Just tell everyone you've taken on a few walls.

I'd leave the body as is, less money that wya. Your on top of what you need to be fixed.

Keep em comin

Fender already replaced and painted, and I'll touch up the remaining oxidized areas with the paint I have left... paint is the original Nissan formula based on the engine bay code. I have a local automotive paint shop that can make me aresol cans of whatever I want.

It'll never be perfect but it'll be a little flashy/cheesy.

It's going back to stock lighting, I don't need attention from police. Speaking of which, did you dick with the wiring so it's always on with the headlights? Don't tell me I have to mess with that, I had just thought I'd have to hook up a proper lens. ???

Goddamn. You guys tore that shit up. I just tapped the wall on the driver side due to understeer. I didn't bend the tension rod brackets because those stock S12 ones weren't on the car at the time of the accident. It probably just needs an alignment. I doubt I bent the rails and core support. Oh and blue_streak is also a member so you just named a car after him. Send this shit to the JY already. JEez. You guys do to cars what my friends do to girls. Way to "beat" a dead horse if you know what I mean.

Don't be mad, bro, you dumped her and naturally she had to sleep around a little to get you out of her system lol... I'll be the boyfriend she never had with you

So it turns out that the E-fan was wired backwards   and with it reversed it blows a nice airflow into the bay through the radiator. One less thing I have to spend money on, so I'll be buying some front suspension crap instead.
