I finally got a chance to read the first page. Although I did tap the wall on the driver side, I did NOT fuck up that suspension. I had MY suspension on during the collision. That suspension is the original one straight off my current turbo car. Just FYI to the next person that'll ever look into the history of the car.

Arro

Well if you didn't... and Alex didn't... and I know Andrew didn't... then who did?

Maybe my Turbo suspension was damaged before I bought the car and swapped it over. I never hit anything with the S12 suspension because I already had everything converted by the time of the collision AND the Turbo car didn't run at the time so I couldn't tweak that stuff either. The core support/frame rail didn't bend cuz the stock tension rod brackets bolted right up. Oh well, too many things have been swapped to really know the culprit. My S13 suspension is still fine after the collision though.

Arro

Well the car is still a lot of fun even tho it is still an ATX... that will change soon enough

So back in May, I teased you all with the pic above. It's time I updated things.

While the CA20 still ran decent, there was no love for the automatic trans, and the desire for more grunt was pressing on me more and more. My other car had been hoarding a rather nice powerplant in its rather underqualified chassis, so
we took the liberty of remanding it of its goodies.

The first car was a sort of test bed for the KA swap, and since then, more refinements and ideas allow us a better swap. Also I wanted to do some things a bit differently.

S13 KA24DE header:

I had to decide between a couple different axle-back sections I had ended up with. In the end, I stuck with the one I had before.

I also had to get the EGR port cut off and remounted shorter so the EGR tube would still clear the firewall. Otherwise, it went on perfectly.

Getting an S13 KA24DE header to fit in our cars, however, is a bitch. Not because of the EGR, but because of the downpipe end. It hits our undercarriage. You're gonna need some special toys to get around that obstacle...

... and LOTS of heating up and pounding the underside of the driver floorpan. This is where you need to do it, and how much:

It is absolutely essential you get a 3 lb. hammer AND an industrial heat gun. I tried it without the heat gun and I got nowhere, fast. Once you heat up the steel, it reshapes much easier.

The fitment was too tight, so eventually with enough hammering, I got it with a quarter inch or more play around the entire downpipe.

Engine in, downpipe fitted and bolted up tight:

Round Two.

Wiring harness prepped and ready to go:

The last of the original, and another new bag of the "zipties of love", standing by.

Sacrifices must be made lol...

Some more interesting swap info... the CA20E throttle cable is SHORTER than the CA18ET throttle cable. The CA20E cable wouldn't reach the KA24DE throttle body. Luckily, we had the throttle cable from the now-defunct turbo S12, and used that.

The exhaust on the old turbo S12 was all welded, but the transplanted setup uses flanges, and bolts up directly to the S13 DE header. The system is REALLY straight in path:

... and is tucked up ABOVE the unibody:

It's also completely bolt-on now, and with the way I have it, I should be able to bolt on any S13 downpipe. This is basically a legitimate bolt-on, properly-fitted exhaust.

Engine completed, ready to bring to life...

It was in first, but there was a little sand on the road, and it's still a 1-tire frier for now. Even still, it snaps the neck back much more than in the previous car. The dent was pulled out for the most part last time, but there's still some little smoothing work that needs to happen. It's mostly straight now so I'll focus on mechanical for the time being.

My only real complaints (of sorts) is that it's way louder with the S13 DE header. And hotter bay temps by far.
