'87 S12 Coupe - 47k Miles :d
« on: 08:11:16 AM / 30-Jul-09 »
I recently purchased a near-mint condition '87 200sx coupe with the Ca20e engine.  This week it's in the body shop getting repainted and all fixed up to be pretty.  Next week begins the crying because I only have 102hp....

Joined the site to figure out to swap a SR20.  Picking it up tomorrow

Anyway, here are some pictures of the car as it sits now.  I bought it from a junkyard who had a little old lady bring it to them.  She was the original owner and the car only has 76,000km (47k miles).  The wrecker ended up selling it and giving the proceeds to the kidney research foundation.  I hope to make something good of it very soon.

Had to replace the rear calipers and all brakes, other than that it's set to go.  Got Canuck lowering springs and KYB-GR2's ready to go in next week (GR2's are from a foxbody mustang and a MR2).

Thanks to Nismo200sx16 for his wiring diagrams.  I picked up a S13 with the SR20 in it so I'll have all the relays and other things needed for the swap.  I'll be using the s12 trans ("C") because I'm short and I like where the shifter is now

I'll continue to update as the weekend goes on with new paint and engine

just fyi, the S13 trans will work BETTER for ANY person of any height.

good luck with the swap, it should be fairly simple, as quite a few people have done it.

that car is fairly clean.  dont you hate it when little old ladies take shit to a junkyard before trying to sell it?

Not really, I got it for $700   Even old ladies would want more than that.

Ordering a ACT Heavy Duty Street/Strip clutch.  I could get a 6 puck but I'd rather not hate my life in traffic...

Wow, 47k miles.  That's awesome.  It's a shame to swap out any engine with 47k miles, even a ca20e...are you going to hold onto it after you put the SR in?

Haven't decided yet.  It's a really useless engine to be honest.  No one around here wants it.  If the SR ever blows I'm much more likely to just buy another SR.

If anyone wants it they can pick it up for free in the next week though

Mudflaps look great, I like them, however underneath of them was a disaster.  Had to replace the entire drivers fender and the passenger is getting a big weld job today before the paint tomorrow.

Wow, that's some crazy rust there, I kinda wonder if there's more hiding elsewhere.

Looks good though, it's a notch version of my S12! Same original color and interior (not that I have much left )

I'll agree with Xano on this one, I'm short too, and love the fact that I can reach the shifter much easier with the S13 trans.

Also! Get the six puck. They're not terrible to drive in the city, even stop and go. All of my cars in my sig have the same six puck, and it's dirt cheap

Updates on the paint job

He sandblasted all of the rust bubbles and is going from there.  Definitely doing a thorough job so far.  Should be done for Sunday.

Update:
Got the s13 home, took the engine and some goodies out, then scraped it. Came with HKS turbo timer, Greddy BOV, FMIC, piping, boost controller, boost gauge, 3" downpipe-cat.  Picking up a Megan 3" downpipe this week as well to match it.

Got the s12 back from paint today.  Holding off on wetsanding until the swap is done so I can hide and scratches/dings that might happen.  Getting the car safetied and everything this week too.

nice paint job.

Could you please put your location into your user profile?

Click My controls at the top, then go to Edit Profile Information half way down the left side of that page.

Thanks!

Sorry, I had account issues (mod's thought I was a spam bot apparently) so I've re-added the location.

I have to do a couple things to the SR20 before the swap (turbo gaskets and a new stud for the downpipe).  So hopefully in the next week or two it will be in with lots of fun to be had.

Pic of the engine won't work on previous post, lets try again:

Hella flush and all associates should be gunned down for brainwashing people into thinking a 225 and lots of camber is proper wheel fitment. THAT IS EASY, anyone can camber a skinny as tire till it dosnt rub. Now fitting an 11 with a 315 on stock fender with reasonable camber, that is fitment. And looks, and performs better than both.
i dont own a s12 at the moment but trying to acquire one to get rid of my s13 hatch
