you are right about at the upper limit of reliable power for a ca18det.  Some have taken it over 400 with no real problems but they are few and their cars are not daily driven or track stressed.  They're "stock bottom" dyno queens for the most part.  Have you been to the CA18DE/CA18DET section on NICO?  Lots of good DOHC CA info there.  For kicks check out Mobne's CA18DET supposedly now making 705rwhp.  He's from Sweden.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZD5wP56XpiM

For the speedo you just use the S12 sender in the S13 trans.  One small bolt and retaining plate hold it in.

The thing to look out for is do not over-rev ur CA.  When pushed beyond 8k (especially 8.5k) the rod cap bolts stretch from centifugal force and the rod bearings spin.  This has happened to a few engine builders so its no fluke.  The fix is lighter forged internals and ARP fasteners throughout the engine including rod cap bolts.  With that and a valvetrain upgrade like the complete kit from Tomei (now discontinued I think) it is said that 10,000+rpm is possible.

one more thing to look out for that I just remembered is oil drainage from the head.  At high rpm it pumps into the head faster than it can drain back down.  A couple austalian members have attested to this and I've experienced it myself while drifting.  Oil starts blowing out the valve cover vents in surprising quantities.  My engine lost almost a quart during one event.  Sustained high rpm plus g forces is what really makes it bad.

Thanks for the info. I haven't seen Mobnes car irl yet but he doesen't live far away from me. I'm only revving 7500rpm.

388hp on the stock block is def impressive your ride is looking good can't wait to get mine to the dyno man the more I see dual cam ca's the more I'm thinking of dropping one in my black car

It will be interesting to se what your setup can manage on the dyno! In Sweden all s12 were sold with ca18et.

I really need a lsd on my car but I dont want to buy a new..

So I will try one from an old Nissan King Cab. I have read about this on many places but I dont think that anyone really knows for sure..

60$ and not far from home.

Heavy! 6 bolt wheelhubs and a 8 bolt rear plate.

29splines fits our s12 shafts.

One sides clutch package.

I have testfitted the lsd in a spare r200 longnose and it fits.
Didn't fit the ringgear, but the bolts are 12mm so I hope it fits.
(will give it a try next time I go to the garage)

Sofar I think the KingCab clsd myth is true.

sweden doesnt do rhd?

lhd

R200 to the left and C200 to the right.

C200 left

C200 with R200 gear.

C200 in R200 longnose.

Sofar its a bolt on replacement but now I have 2 problems.

The centerpart in the diffs are diffrent sizes. The c200 centerpart needs some machining.
(Already fixed it)

c200 on top.

The second and not so easy problem is that the "track" where the clip that holds the shaft in positions is missing. Dont really know how to fix it yet.

C200 to the left..

damn good job it looked like it might be a straight bolt-on affair....I may have missed this but what's the c200 out of?

Its from a Nissan D21 Diesel Truck 1988-1992 4wd. I think they came with other axles too.

roadie there is someone else on this forum that swapped diff guts and ran into the same problem you did...i wish i could remember who it was but he measured how far that valley for the clip was from the edge and how deep it was and then cut a valley on the new gear on a lathe. by the way after seeing the #s you put down i am officially scrapping the sr plans and goin with a ca!

Not much has happened except the lsd. In a couple of weeks I will start this winters project.

TODO list:
S13 gearbox + shortshifter
clutch LSD
New bigger exhaust muffler (Its a bit too loud now)
Get knock signal into Megasquirt for logging.
Some welding and new steel to get rid of rust.

or someoeone else?

The diff is ready to be mounted now. I put two .007" shim in it and now I have 100 lb/ft breakaway torque. I really hope this works. Dont know if I can try it before we get snow here in Sweden, its getting cold...
