I've not been on here in forever.
I sold my 2nd s12 in about 2003 (1st was a standard 2.0 sgl, 2nd i seapped an sr20det and irs into), for many years i didnt have an s12 but always wanted one again. I picked up another 2.0 sgl coupe with all options except auto (basically the one i wanted) and just kept it in the shed until now.
Started to work on it again recently with a view to having it on the road asap.
It's a pretty typical sgl, live axle, ca20e, 360,000km.
The short version is i have some 14" Hoshinos on it (that i bought specifically for a future s12 project back in around 07 when i was living in japan), some slightly lower springs temporarily and I've just pulled the top off the ca20e to freshen some stuff up.
Im going to keep it ca20e to teach myself tuning (both fuel and ignition) and although the ca20e isn't a powerhouse I've always liked them.
Pics to come.

Nice i really like that color combo on your car!

Nebuchernezzer

Thanks yeah i like it too. Different to my old ones which were all single colour.
Made some progress with it, although been working so much I've not done anything for a few weeks.
Had my h190 lsd turn up and looking for an alloy carrier h190 to put it into and swap it in the future.
Might go for a slightly crazy diff ratio lile 4.6 but we'll see what comes up haha.

Car is on the road now which is pretty awesome, done a few hundred kms in it, commuted in it for a week just cos (i usually commute by motorbike cos it's cheaper and faster).
Now onto my laundry list of little things that need a look in:
Oil pressure sensor (ordered)
Water temp sensor (got it)
Repaint the black parts of my exterior trim that are peeling
Recover my torn back seat (got a NOS rear lower seat cover)
Fit my OEM radio (wired in the OEM plugs after a previous owner chopped them out)
New wipers (done)
New anciliary belts (done)
Roll the rear guards (i know a bloke who should lend me a roller, or i'll do it with a pipe like i have my previous cars)
Work out why the pulsar fuel pump i put in is being so noisy after the car has been running a while, maybe get hold of a new OEM pump.
Balance the wheels (has a bit of a shimmy at 100+ km/h that i didn't notice until i took a freeway journey the other day)
Straighten my front bumper support and fit my Mk1 lip.
Find out why the cruise control isn't working (probably a split vac line)
Pick up another H190 centre to fit my LSD into (got one lined up from a bloke nearby)
Fit my bluetooth gear to the back of the OEM head unit so i can play my phone straight into the unit while still keeping the old school look (and regular radio stations)
FIx the clear on the bonnet, paint the black sections of the front and rear bumpers body coloured (while fixing the scrapes etc on them)

Should keep me occupied for a bit but it's working well in the meantime and i'm enjoying just driving it around as is.

Love the color scheme of your car. Good to see another one on the road.
Infrequently driving an s12.

Thanks mate. Yeah i like the two tone. Did a few minor things today on it, put a new rubbing strip on the front right guard cos i was missing one, put my water temp sensor in and retensioned all my new belts . Not exactly exciting stuff but hey :).

Please take lots of pictures whenever you get around to adding bluetooth to the stock stereo. I'm interested in doing that myself and will need all the information I can get.

Will do. It's a pretty cheap and simple setup too.

Swapped my dash out with a spare today because my temperature gauge reads really low. Not sure if that's fixed it yet but an easy way to check. Also fixed one of my dash vents where the clips had broken off. I'd glued it before but it didn't hold so glue and zip ties this time.

Isn't taking the dash out pain in the ass? I've never done that. If my temperature gauge read incorrectly, the first thing I would check would probably be the temperature sensor.

Nebuchernezzer

Temp sensor is new. The dash is easy to remove, literally under 5 minutes. Thermostat will be next port of call if this doesn't work and thrn investigate the wiring after that.

Fixed the oil pressure (new sender) and the oil temp issue (new thermostat).
Took apart my H190 LSD to check what plates it has in it.  It's got the lowest torque setup in it, basically the 3kg/m breakaway stack of discs with some of the discs switched around to give less intial torque.
I can either restack the discs to give 3kg/m breakaway or i can get some extra dished discs and build the pack up to 7kg/m, which is what i'll probably do.  Nissan still has the discs available new off the shelf (for a few bucks!)

Also got my dad's box trailer from up the coast yesterday too so i can go and pick up a spare CA20e (with 210,000km on it) to replace my smokey one with for now.

Test fitted my H190 into a housing tonight. It's nice when stuff all goes together. Miles of backlash but it's all getting rebuilt anyways :)

Been a while since i've updated this.
I've done a few things.
Made up some shims for the diff to get it's backlash in range, the bearings in the diff seem good but i'll replace them all and recheck the backlash afterwards.
Turned out i needed a 2.8mm spacer shim to get the backlash in range with the LSD.  Seems that different ratio LSDs had different offsets on the flange.
Backlash is now 0.02mm.

Made some adjustable rear control arms, i don't reaaaallly need them but it was a fun little project.  Used motorsport rose joints (like QA1 loader slot joints but from a different supplier), used sprint car off the shelf threaded steel arms and had some top hat spacers made up to suit the mounting points of the S12.  Also some dust covers.  Not in the car yet as i only assembled them last weekend.

Making myself some coilovers too.  Got some cheap chinese coilovers as a source of parts (i expect the shocks to be really bad!) because it's cheaper than just buying collars and so on.  Got some threaded sections to weld to my front struts made up, got some threaded seats for the live axle made up for the back and some threaded lowers to mount the shocks as a separate shock made up as well.  Not put together yet but will be very soon.  I'll use them with the standard spring rates (8/7lg) and standard shocks that came with the coilovers to start with but i'm aiming to use them with 5/4kg or 4/4kg springs and use SW20 MR2 shocks in adapted threaded strut tubes in the end.

Also took my spare CA20e apart to rebuild, looks alright inside some wear (one bearing pretty much gone) but no damage to the crank etc that i can see.
