slight knock on my VG30
« on: 07:57:48 PM / 25-Oct-10 »
I just got through redoing some small maintenance on my 200sx se.   Either way it runs okay for a car with 200k miles on it.  I won't win any races but the pull the car has is fun none the less.  I am enjoying the torque the VG30 has, looking forward to possible replacing the engine soon.  Until then I have a small pinging noise under the passenger valve cover.  I am guessing that its the first signs of a rod knocking.  Is there anything I can do to have it fixed before it gets worse or is it just doomed?  Thanks in advanced.

its probably just a stuck lifter, rod knock comes from the oil pan area and you will notice metal shavings when you drain your oil. you prolly just need a lifter

Obviously, you have yet to meet Colonel Gustard.
I saw some of his posts, he seems like more fun than a barrel of hookers.

Agreed. If it sounds like it is coming from the top end it is probably not rod knock but valvetrain related. A video of the problem would help out a lot more for diagnosis.

Also, for a decently maintained vg30 200k is not especially high.  I got my SE at 165k and it now has over 210k and still runs great. Your SE shouldn't really need a rebuild for another 50-100k miles at least. Just make sure to keep up on your basic maintenance and replacing your timing belt and all is well.
FIrst my rims are horrible, than there ok when painted black , now my cars horrible, now my fenders are to much after i was told i couldnt do it.... Lol club s12 ftw.....  Only here have Ive been told they look like shit..... SOrry its not bone stock with crown vic rims running the stock vg making 130whp and looks generic like every other one. My car looks dope ive been told this a billion times on local forums....

Yeah I got mine to go to 297,000... I was redlining the shit out of it daily and just generally beating the heck out of it. Finally died, now I'm in the process of putting a new Vg in there. I had a stuck lifter, I used a can of sea foam in my oil, a can to throw through the intake and a can in my gas tank. Never heard from those lifters again.
