Jalopnik, brought to my attention by jphilips:
http://jalopnik.com/#!5775509/feds-launch-new-crackdown-against-nissan-skyline-owners

I agree with "pauljones" in the comments after the article, it's a clear violation of constitutional rights, and as a secondary concern, a complete waste of taxpayer dollars. How does this make our homeland more "secure"? All it serves to do is make the extreme liberals look like they're right about the Dept. of Homeland Security being nothing more than a "scare tactics" agency designed to keep the status quo internally.

I'm all for securing our homeland. This ain't it.

Hella flush and all associates should be gunned down for brainwashing people into thinking a 225 and lots of camber is proper wheel fitment. THAT IS EASY, anyone can camber a skinny as tire till it dosnt rub. Now fitting an 11 with a 315 on stock fender with reasonable camber, that is fitment. And looks, and performs better than both.

I'm confused....do they somehow think that terrorists are driving skylines filled with bombs? that's the only plausible explanation I could come up with for Homeland Security to take a personal part in clearing 'illegal' vehicles off the streets. They don't have anything better to do than track down import cars 'just because they can'?

seriously?

how bout HS uses some of those resources to do something fucking productive? I bet the amount of money they spend tracking down paper work, tracking down the cars, seizing them, and crushing them or whatever they're gonna do with them they could have invested in some awesome security invention and save lives.

like those epic x-ray scanner walls they had in Total Recall.

I fail to see how clearing Skylines off the streets is securing our safety from terror threats and gang wars.

It's all about the government wanting to make decisions for us.  I'm not allowed to decide to drive a skyline that doesn't have airbags because it might hurt me if I get in a wreck...

Too bad we don't have the right to take responsibility for our own actions anymore.

That is exactly what "Vandrel" of SkylineOwners USA is going to do, and since he and most of those interested possess the funds, together they should have no trouble financing the legal costs that will be associated with this battle.

That's retarded, they could nit put this type of effort into nabbing drugs and gun or other wepons crossing onto US and Canadian soil. Do they just fail that much. WTF do cars have to do with protecting our homeland? Fuck the government is retarded
I keep my car cleaner then my room
Fuck you then, I'll take my movies, box of chocolates, bottle of wine and chloroform somewhere else.
Adding an SSD to that is kinda like strapping a 3 inch stainless HKS exhaust on a geo metro.

This is the way I look at it. JUST LIKE MARIJUANA.

Legalize it
Import it
Tax it
Reduce budget deficit by spending less, earning more.
Fuck bitches

I was dead serious about the revolution thing earlier

I mean. It's not like they're less safe than our cars and have worse emissions. If they truly think that, they're fucking insane
50 bucks says they don't pass emissions is because they aren't equipped with a cat, but still pollute less, but they aren't equipped with a cat.

I would like to know how they suddenly decided the older skyline was illegitimate when it is old enough to be exempt from import laws?

No - the Dr30 would have been fine. Law states that a car has to be older than 25 years old to the month it was built for it to be exempt from the laws that make it illegal.

a dr30 fits those laws. an r34 does not. not yet anyway

^THIS
And apparently the government is worrying about the /WRONG/ things. With ALL the job loss, poverty, wars and crap, they're worrying about a *car*?!! Insane. Somebody's list of priorities is totally wrong here...

So what if you have the engine of a Skyline; is that illegal too?!

no, if you keep all the emissions stuff and all that. but people rarely do...so yes, technically a motor swap is illegal if modifications have been made to the engine that causes it to no longer conform to emissions and all that stuff....but it varies state to state.

^only if it's less than 25 years old

Then it's fair game for what the fuck ever engine
Except in california. of course

My thought is, Why didn't they just yank the motors out? It's no longer a "Motor vehicle" then. At that point, it's a "vehicle assembly", and thus, not a motor vehicle that can be seized for being contraband.

I have a new idea. And need investors for a long term investment plan

@Jay, the way I understand it, thats exactly what is done to get them into the country in the first place, then they are reassembled and sold.

My dad's got more than a couple cars that have never been smogged, don't have VIN plates, weren't mfg for USDM, yet they're reg'd n tagged.  None of them are Skylines though.  ROFL.

The reason they're getting chased after so dilligently is the vehicles themselves have been classified as contraband.  The same as illicit drugs, non-FFL registered automatic weapons and the like.  NFI who decided they were contriband (hell, require them to be reg'd as "for off road use only" and call it a day....).  <sigh>

This country really is becomming socialist....  Might as well move to Aus now - they've got alot more practice at it.  And the chix are hot.
