ok so yea im a total noob when it comes to swaps. i basically need to know what i need to get to swap a SR20 into my S12 which currently has a VG30E in it. Since its so hard to find any parts for that engine i figure a swap would be easier if i knew what i needed to do.

vg30's are cake to turbo and can take upwards of 500 hp without any beefing up of the internals.

I'm kind of hard pressed on the issue, but you're better off getting a car that was originally a 4 cylinder, as you'll need the cross member anyway!

But, if you do take the vg out of it, just makes my car all the more rare. :D

BoostedVG (in regards to people hating on the VG) - Me thinks they were not the mechanic they thought and blamed it all on the engine.

Turbo charge the vg. I wouldn't call it easy. I would call it highly rewarding!

Anyone interested in turbocharging their vg? Shoot me a PM. Buck Ofama

the only reason you swapped out your vg is because it blew, right?

I have a 120,000 mile motor that's had nothing but synthetic since it was new, and it pulls.  pulls damn hard!  There's nothing like the torque of a V6 (well, maybe a V8...).  especially when you're putting out 180tq @ 3k or less.

And like I said, the stock VG will handle 400-500hp without any internal upgrading.

SIlverton you should read in to the ka a bit more , its a lower rpm torquey motor , making all its power low end ,  the vg only makes 160 torque.

the KA is a truck motor, through and through.  The VG makes 173-182tq.

KA24DE makes 155hp @ 5400rpm and 160tq @ 4400rpm

VG30E  makes 160hp @ 5200rpm and 174tq @ 4000rpm (the vg s12 version)

They are only .6 liters of displacement apart, so that's why the torque numbers aren't too far off.  To be fair, we should be comparing a vg30de to the ka24de, or the vg30e to the ka24e.  But the vg30 isn't as stressed as the power is spread across two extra cylinders.

All in all, VG > KA.  I'll leave the four cylinders to stripped down model pickups, and hondas.

You can leave them to trucks, japanese engine builders now use them for s14 and s13's .  THats about the only insult you have, forgetting the ka24e was the only motor to come in the trucks......
