SR20DE to CA20E engine mounts hassles
« on: 03:59:06 AM / 20-Sep-11 »
Hey guys,

I've tried searching and haven't had any luck. Probably due to keywords or something but if anyone can give me a quick bit of help it would be great.

I'm putting an SR20DE into my S12.  It is an ex CA20E one that I bought with no engine.

The problem I'm having is mounting the SR into the subframe.

The engine is from a S15.
Engine mounts are from an RPS13 with SR20DE.

Basically the mounts and subframe holes don't line up... At all... They are miles out.  Here's some photos to give you some idea:

Thanks for any and all help.

that's the first time I've heard of this... KA24's swap into our crossmembers without issue, and SR's swap into S13's and S14's without issue, either... they all should be about the same. Maybe one of the mounts got bent somehow?

THAT IS EASY, anyone can camber a skinny as tire till it dosnt rub. Now fitting an 11 with a 315 on stock fender with reasonable camber, that is fitment. And looks, and performs better than both.

That subframe doesn't look right... Mounts are way too high, slots aren't big enough either. You sure it didn't have a V6 swapped into it previously?

Well here are the XE and SE S12 engine crossmembers side by side:

Post Merge: 11:12:53 PM / 20-Sep-11
Either way that's not the original XE or SE crossmsmber, and probably not one from an S-chassis or Z car at all. So the question is, what is it?

Can anyone help identify it then.

Here are a couple of measurements to help out

After looking at is, it also appears the steering rack holders have been attached later on as it has really shitty welds on it. It does bolt into the S12 perfectly.  Mounting bolts have not been slotted or anything as far as I can tell.

Is it possible it's RB crossmember?

Did you guys get the CA18DET engine? do they use the same crossmember and mounts as the CA20E?

The CA's share the same crossmember.

That really doesn't look factory to me. But yet it does at the same time.....

Pick up a subframe from the aussie guys? They've gotta have one laying around

S15 and S14 are the same.

It's S13 that's different to the others because they have a CA crossmember in them but come with SR's

Now that it might very well be!

Although that would be the Z31 NA crossmember, because the turbo one has offset mounts.

Doesnt the N/A crossmember have the mounts facing forwards instead of into the middle though?

Or is this the one you guys are referring to here.

Man I just spent the better part of an hour searching images for crossmembers for Z31, Z32, 300ZX, VG30E, VG30DE, VG30DETT, 280ZX... VG33ER... no luck yet man.

GOT YOUR ANSWER!

I was thinking last night, as I wrote the above, I wonder if I pop the hood of my RS-X, will it have the same mouts...

SO.....today I went outside, and this is what I found:

It's for an FJ20E or ET engine ;) I'll gladly take it off your hands since I'm gathering parts for another FJ.

Heck no, if it's for an FJ I'm keeping it!!! I was preferring to go that way rather than the SR anyway.

Thank you so much Arro!!!

Per the OP's request, I took another pic of the FJ mount in my RS-X, this time with better lighting and head-on at the mount itself.

Note that there is a bolt at the SIDE of the crossmember's mount point, towards the top... this is NOT factory, and neither are the mounts themselves. Factory mounts have a single bolt that sticks into the crossmember's motor mount point from the TOP face (the one angled diagonally towards the engine). I have custom energy suspension urethane mounts designed to grab the sides, so a hole was drilled through the sides to accommodate that.
