Profile Image Selection Display
« on: 05:11:50 PM / 03-Dec-11 »
I checked before posting this, so excuse me if...  What sort criteria is used to load & display images in our profile-user's garage?  Figured maybe by filename, but I can't get my engine-bay pics grouped together.  Is there a way to arrange them?  Mahalo.

I've worked/consulted with software companies so this kinda shit interests me.  I've beaten on this bitch and can only come to the conclusion it's random and not recursion.  If I were in QA this kinda shit wouldn't fly.  I hate not having access to source code!

figured it out shark...if you click on edit my vehicles it opens up the edit vehicles window where you can choose to edit the vehicle window, or choose the images tab, if you click on the images tab you can add more images, or scroll down to where there is is the image, a box to the right that says description, and a box to the right that says hilite image, or delete image. By default the first image you upload is the default, so the top image is the hilite image...if you scroll down you can select to hilite another image.

select the edit vehicle button

select the images tab

first image you can not click on the hilite image link because the first image is as default your profile pic, but you can however select hilite image on the pics below it to make them your profile image for your garage.

I believe my question is another step than you're referring to.  I'm attempting to arrange/group my other pics.  I figure they may load/display together by filename, but no go.  Then maybe date/time, but no go.  I don't see any way of arranging images to a users preference...  Or maybe I'm overlooking something?

EDIT: If you look at my images I have no control of keeping my engine-bay pics together.

I uploaded images to my garage using the link option...i just copied and pasted links from the images from my vehicle build up thread...it appears on my garage that my pictures appear in the order that I added the links to my garage....if yours just end up appearing random...than that seems weird...

Thanks Sam!  I tried that at first thinking it would be their order... and still my pics loaded randomly.  I will experiment more and try the 1st time approach again.  Would be nice to have control when adding future pics.  When I add they just load anywhere.

Weird, try uploading them to a photohost and then try copying image locations in the order you want your pics..

I have talked tO someone about that before to. They said it is just random...  I wanted to have my pics in order to

Thanks for your input.  Initially setting up my profile I noticed images loaded randomly, but just went on...  Later, adding images produced similar results.  I do know when writing to files, indexing should be used otherwise record locations...  Nothing critical.  Just wonderin if only me.

Hate to say it, but I don't believe there is any way to change it at all unfortunately.  The only one you can change is your main image using the select hilite option.

I had a hunch so didn't dig any deeper.  It's in their code.  The programmer is not indexing or setting any position/pointer when writing to the image file.  Data can be handled in many ways thru input and output conversions.  Using "DATE" as an example - computer will query a user MM/DD/YY, but would be foolish to store in that manner, most likely converted to a number, then written (easier/faster to calculate number than MM/DD/YY).  When that number (date) is referenced by programs/users it can be converted to display varieties of date formats...

It's an easy fix if you have the source code and compiler.  If you're running "vanilla" then prolly have to wait for next major release to see if enuf people asked and any features added.  Depending on what system tools you have I wondered if my adding and deleting images was showing on any User Activity reports while trying to organize them.  Still, there has to be an answer to why it places images where it does.  We will survive.

Oh If i really wanted to, I could pour over the coding in our garage system for days and make it identify pictures in a new way, but really, its a minor thing.

I'd use locate with editor to find the line of code which displays output of our images, then add a format statement (by filename or date...), file the program, recompile...  So our image order of display would be by filename or date...  There would at least be some order.  It is a minor thing, would take a nanosecond to fix and nobody really cares so we live with it.  Go with the flow.

So I guess adding a theme song to go along with arrayed images is out of the question?  (J/K).  SMF software release is 1.1.15. - says enuf.  Just get to 2.0 already before we see an "r" or "rr" (1.1.15rxx).  There's an old term (and I'm old) in the software world, GIGO.  Garbage In Garbage Out.

Its not an SMF issue, its an issue with SMF Garage, which is written by a single guy in his mothers basement (not me).  I had to do quite a bit of work to get it to natively work with SMF in general.

It started as a port of a garage system for another BB software set.  It stayed at that point forever.  He finally released a version that works with 2.0 (which was one of the things that was holding me back on updating to SMF2).  On another note, this pretty little theme we have here, I have to convert it by hand.  The themes are not cross compatible between SMF 1 and SMF 2.  Also, remember that pretty little 8 hour outage we had?  The one where various things were broke for a week afterwards?  That was due to the SMF 1 to SMF 2 update trying to run (not intentionally) and failing miserably.

Let it be known, I AM working on Club S12 v4.0 at the moment.  Despite what the title says, we are currently on Club S12 v3.6, based on my own modifications and SMF updates to their base software.

ANYWAYS, lol, thanks for prompting me to post some of the information above, Shark.  It's been something I've wanted to do for a while.  And based on the date, I think it's time for Club-S12 v4 to get rolling, cause I need a renewed interest in something.

The SMF-GARAGE programmer may not have flowcharted the module before jammin away at coding.  I found a lot of programmers may know their applications, but clueless on system architect.  Somewhere resides the Garage-Image file.  If having global access on a system I could EDIT that file and rearrange them (image/pics) in any order the "bitchy" user wanted.

To those who care about image display order I figured a way from a "user" approach.  My images are now arranged accordingly.  And I didn't even have to dimension an array.
