And if you want to keep the little baffle on the exhaust side with the ras, you will have to dermal one corner if I remember correctly.
Are you doing cams? Right now for the brief time I drove mine it had a great mid range with stock head and a gt2871
Yeah, I've seen it done before and yeah I'm doing mild cams.

Block back from the machine shop...again.

A buddy of mine works at a machine shop had it square decked and resurfaced.  Looks like new!

Much better!

Adding an SSD to that is kinda like strapping a 3 inch stainless HKS exhaust on a geo metro.

Update to the parts bin:

Here's when my Ishihara-Johnson crank scraper / windage tray came in:

This will help with acceleration by getting that excess oil off the crank and free up some power by breaking up that nasty windage cloud that causes drag on the rotating assembly.

darryn.

Liking where this is going man :) SR <3
I was thinking of using BC cams in mine but after a bit of research found the knock pin in the intake cam is out on them some up to 16* needing an adjustable gear to dial it into where it should be. Just a heads up incase you havent heard of it before. I read of people putting them in and loosing power because of it :/

Yeah, thanks for the tip but my cams are Crower, not Brian Crower (BC). Totally different cam manufacturers. I wanted to try them simply because nobody has any experience with them that I can tell. Sounds crazy I know but I'm not a bandwagon type of guy.

Didn't know crower and brian crower were different companies are they cheaper than bc?

darryn.

Oh yeah, I was always under the impression that they were the same company :P I thought it was strange because I had heard of crower being pretty well known for their good reputation and work/products, then when I read about the timing issue and that they were mass produced china cams it struck me as odd. Glad thats cleared up now haha.

What turbo are you running with the s1 cams? Sorry if Ive missed it in an earlier post :P

8SixS12

This link should clear up the BC / Crower relationship:  http://www.briancrower.com/about.shtml

As for the turbo, I'll be running the s15 dual BB turbo that's on the CA18ET right now but if it's out of spec when I pull it out I'm going with either a Disco potato or the Tomei ARMS M7960 kit.  The T28BB should be fine though because I only ran it for about 6 months.

I wish. They are considerably more (probably why not many people run them).  Besides I had access to these and they have a great reputation with the muscle car guys so I figured why not.

Some more goodies came in:

That's a nice feeling street clutch, drove a skyline with one like it, not to agrresive unlike my 4 puck

Yeah, my goal was to be able to enjoy the car. I don't want to feel like I'm working every time I step on the clutch pedal.  Besides, I'm pretty sure I won't be making anything close to the 372ft lb rating anyway.

I decided to go with the matching streetlite flywheel for the same reasons

Believe it or not, I plan in using the oem intake and exhaust manifolds to take advantage of the new cam profiles and to save some funtickets in the process.  With that said I wanted to try out this new paint from KBS coatings. They are a new vendor that just got picked up where I work.

I talked to the reps and they say the spray will withstand about 1200 degrees and it won't peel or flake off.  I sprayed my exhaust manni with it and it looks like it was powdercoated.

I did have to hit it with a wire wheel to get all the surface rust off first and then wiped it down with some TSP to remove any left over oils and dust before spraying it.  Then I baked it in my barbecue grill @ 300 degrees.

I'm not a great painter but this thing has zero runs on it.  I think it came out pretty decent for a spray coating.

I'm thinking of doing the same to the intake manni as well but I'm not sure on the color scheme yet. You can bet it won't be blue, green and white though.

I'm almost done prepping my intake manifold and valve cover.

Problem is I just noticed that the baffle drain (Or what ever it's called) on the underside of the VC is broken.

Not really sure if it matters or not but it kind of makes me uneasy about using it. I found another one though but it sucks that I wasted all that time and energy getting off that ugly blue powder coat. BTW, CRC gasket remover works wonders on powdercoating. Spray it on and let it sit for a few then wipe it off - no BS! I used a platic scraper to avoid gouging the VC.

Update: I started pulling off some of the front end trim to get ready to remove the fenders.

Found 26 year old dirt that accumulated behind the mud guards.

Fenders and hood off:

Once that was done, I realized that I needed to turn the car around in order to have enough room to pull the motor.

Thank god my CA18ET still runs!

Last time I'll see the 18ET in the 'ol bay.
Sad to see it go....can we get a moment of silence?.....

okay now that I'm over that, I can't wait to get it outta there!
