Oh believe me I didn't cut anything out. The idiot (I'll be nice and not say any names) who experimented on the car before me decided to cut all that out, then cover up the mess with sheetmetal and rivets, I didn't find out til the other day when it broke on me. We had to plate all the way around the towers and add those tubes for support. It feels so much more rigid now!

pakii-afa

oh wow yea i bet it does, personally id still be a little skeptical about it, until i had atleast a vertical load tube lol

Johnny_boi

FUCK YOU, you ungrateful asshole. Call me a an idiot. Fuck you, I gave you that car for free. Then you want to talk shit! Ok your car is fucking garbage and drifts like shit and so do you. So next time some gives you a free car, you think about before you go bashing them. I've seen your work and it's crap.

andyrhode

Wow. Mature.. I wasn't talking shit, I said no names. Then you came outta nowhere and decided to put yourself on blast!!

After all the shit I've been through with that shell I've realized why it was free. You experimented on it, ruined it, and pawned it off on some broke kid to haul it out of your yard.

If you don't want to be called an idiot, maybe you shouldn't do stupid shit! You cut 3/4 of the structural integrity out of those strut towers, then covered it up with sheetmetal. Do you know what it is like to break a fucking strut mount while driving? Not fun. Take that into account for my "shit drifting" too. See you next year with a non broken car and we'll see who drifts like shit.

Johnny_boi

I didn't pawned shit of on you. Told you everything. If I knew you were going to talk shit on me, then I would have scraped it for scrap money. But I figured that you being the "broke ass kid" that you are, I'd help you out. Also if you didn't know the strut tower was weak that's on you not me. How long have been driving/drifting/working the car? 1.5years ya. You must have deemed it safe. But it's all my fault and I'm the idiot. Ok.

Hmm. Which one is it?.. You were the one to cut it and then knowing it was weak you decided
To cover it up with sheet metal, you obviously didn't tell me "hey man I had a field day with a cutting wheel under those tubs, I'd reinforce it so you don't kill yourself bro"  and it's not like I'm gonna pull off the tubs unless I need more room in the bay. How would you not see that you cut way too much out of there? Anyone could see that!

I'm over arguing over an Internet forum. See you at the track.

I've been gathering parts all week. Just need a 3sgte pressure plate, gaskets, an alternator,
tundra headers, and power steering lines to finish this thing!

going to be a blast to drive

This project has been moving pretty steadily. Before anything could happen on the car I had to pull the Ka-t out. Just a simple as the other 4 times I've pulled this thing lmao. I ended up selling the full swap for $800 which was way more than I thought I'd get for a Single Cam KA.

After the KA was out, the shell was ready to get some serious work done. So I sent my car off to Stephen Tognoli at the Straight 6 Factory about a week ago. Stephen is a veteran in the drift scene having worked on Brandon Wicknick's team. He's fixing the strut tower mess, modifying the headers, and giving the engine a once-over with all new gaskets.

Current progress as of yesterday. I'm sure he's finished by now, dude moves fast! Still needs to be cleaned up and he'll do a final pass with the tig to make everything all pretty. It's not fun working with something that 3 other people have fucked up.

Here's the headers I went with. Only $150 off ebay. I've heard decent things about them, but when I got them I've noticed that they're not completely welded around the pipes on the outside. They have to be modded anyways to clear the steering shaft, so I'll have Stephen finish up the welds too.

1UZ off to the shop to get torn down! Thank god I have friends and family since I no longer own a truck or trailer so this project would go nowhere with out them.

I'm still waiting for my ACT clutch setup to arrive. Within a couple weeks, by the time that comes in, everything should be ready to drop in! Then wire and fire! Stay posted for the next update.

andyrhode

Little bit of an update. Got my ACT clutch setup in. I went with a 4-puck unsprung KA24de clutch disk, and Heavy Duty MR2 pressure plate. I'm using an action clutch lightweight chromoly flywheel modified for the 1UZ. With my adapter plate and modified throwout bearing sleeve, everything should bolt right up to the KA Transmission.

I also picked up an SR transmission. My roommate had 2, and for some reason he wanted to keep the other one that had a KA Bellhousing bolted to it. So I had to swap bellhousings for him. I took apart my transmission completely just to make sure everything looked alright, Then reassembled both and took one down to the shop to get everything back together.

Between s12 c trans ca18, ca20, sr, or ka I'd rather have the ka, its usually the cheapest and has the tallest gears, romour has it that the rb20 c trans has stronger internals but no ones ever justified that personally.

But there's also this part of me that likes to Frankenstein everything I possibly can.
So if I had the option I'd throw a rb25 tranny at my ka. Which in retro spec is not hard to do and when I get money I'll be doing it.
So basically the rb25 bell housing is almost identical to the ka, except for the top 2 holes. One needs to be slotted, the other gets a through and through new hole drilled in the correct spot. The dowels even line up. Custom driveshaft cause I think the output shaft spline is bigger, but I believe and dont quote me on this I could very well be wrong but I believe the rb25 trans is the same length as the s12 ctrans, maybe 1/16 longer (rb20 trans is 34") so same as rb20 trans.
S13s use an r33 trans crossmeber flipped around and the 4 chassis holes like up, don't see why some sort OEM Franky can't be worked out.
Shifter location is close enough to stock.

...

Lol

IggyEGuana

good shit going on here! Thats the same clutch disc i'm using. its awesome. This whole thing is gonna be awesome.

Lol

I would have taken the Ka trans but my roommate wanted to keep that one for some reason so he made me frankenstien his SR trans lmao.

That is great to know about the 25 tranny. I almost bought a vq35 transmission for $300 but it would have required completely re-doing my transmission tunnel, so that wasn't the most cost-effective way and I'm gonna stay N/A this year. Might just drill a couple holes on my adapter plate and run a 25 transmission now!  Looks easy right?
That's my lightweight chromoly flywheel and adapter plate for KA/Z33 trans. Check out that starter too, hope it doesn't go!
If it does I will literally have to pull the transmission, adapter plate, and entire intake manifold :woow: ..or just bump start it the rest of the season :yay!:

Thanks Waylon. I'm so excited! Finally gonna have a dope drift car. Too bad you moved to NJ, I'd love to tow this thing to vegas and tandem with ya!

Maybe one day I'll be back out there. Maybe even in norcal where I have fam

Hell yeah dude.

Got some pics from Stephen today. Here is the finished strut tower supports that he did. Looks freakin' amazing!

We'll be dropping the engine in soon enough..

Spoolinups13

The build is coming along nicely man, cool to see some new updates!..I like the idea for the shock towers, mine are mint but I need more clearance and might follow something along the lines of what you did. Not sure if you already know but its a good idea to tap the block with threads for the starter so if it goes you don't have pull the trans and adapter plate to get it out! I had to notch my transmission bell housing a bit to clear the starter gear when it engages..

andyrhode

I just did that! Amazing idea. You're saving my life when my starter goes

Finally found the secondary harnesses I was missing. Now I just need to put the intake mani gaskets on, and find some transmission bolts.. Hoping to have everything dropped in tomorrow or Wednesday! :yay!:

sideways_s12

I may have missed this but what trans are you using?
