r180 to r200 swap?
« on: 11:00:25 PM / 25-May-14 »
so I am done with the welded r180  and its squealing tires around turns. and my axles making all kinds of chattering noise. I don't blame them though they have bin twisted pretty hard and have not given up yet. but its time for a lsd and new axles . my question is what all is needed for the r200 swap? just the r200 diff and axles to match? or do I need the hubs as well from a r200 s12? and also is their a way to keep my drive shaft with the r200 swap?

back half of the driveshaft, diff mount and axles from a R200 S12 (turbo or SE). That's what is needed.

good that's not to bad. I will have to have my drive shaft modified though its an aluminum one piece. do you know whats different about the drive shaft? longer, shorter , different bolt pattern? may be an adapter can be made.

Same length as far as I know, but the flange on the R200 is bigger.

Your driveshaft should be the same length but you will need to have a new flange put on to adapt to the R200 diff. (Z31 and S12 Had different flange types)

I used a Diff and axles from a Z31 300zx turbo so the axles were a little different than the Turbo and SE model S12 axles.
(I converted to Z31 rear 5 lug vented rotors. Hints to why I needed Z31 R200 axles, stub, etc.)

But the basics for the swap as stated above R200 diff, R200 Axles to match the Diff and stubs, R200 Diff mount off a Turbo or SE model S12.

My Rear end set up is as fallows.

Z31 Rear control arms with vented rotors all new bearings
Z31 R200 Diff with Finned diff cover
KaaZ R200 1.5 way LSD
Z31 R200 axles (Note: one of the Z31 axle stubs is longer than the other so it matters were it goes)
Se R200 Diff mount (I ended up filling up my diff mount with poly urethane to stiffen it up some)

I've never heard before that the r200 has a different pinion flange. is it just the z31 r200? When I did my r200 swap it was with a s12 turbo diff and it bolted right up to my existing driveshaft.

All i needed was the diff, axles, and mount. the r200 axles (s12 or z31 doesnt matter, I have one of each on my car) bolt straight up to the hub flange on the control arm (4 lug in my case).

I'm doing the swap soon with a turbo R200, i'll be able to confirm if the flanges are the same.
