I know you bought the VG30 alt, but what engine do you actually have?  How did you determine the new one isn't charging?  Did you test either the old or new at a parts store?

Run new wires from the alt to the battery, ideally w a fusable link. A nice thick wire from the positive lead to the battery and a ground going from alt to battery tray and then to the battery's neg terminal. I've done this and my alternator problems vanished.

Try doing the big 3 aka 3 bigger wires
One. Goes from positive batt to pos alt
Second one is neg batt to chassis
Third motor to chassis
Then lmk how it goes
You can even add a neg alt to chassis
